    Given who was moved this deadline and their cost, Stearns looks like a magician right now. Upgraded at all needed spots without giving up any coveted prospects. I also really love the possibility of experimenting with McGill in the bullpen.

    David Stearns earned an "A" grade from this "Ol' Perfessor." As indicated in the previous statement, I'm a baseball history geek! The reason, David Stearns did not compromise his philosophy of incremental improvement. Since his arrival, Stearns has done an excellent job of backfilling a roster that only 2 seasons ago won 101 games. The price of pitching is always high and goes up at the deadline. Stearns did not panic himself into making a splash. He acquired quality arms for the bullpen and fortified the rotation. While none of the moves were earth-shattering, these additions were astute and improved the ballclub at a reasonable cost. The bagel shop story was hilarious!

    Gotta say that Stern's did amazing this deadline. He filled all our needs well below market price. The extra years of control on several of them are such a great get. I will disagree with you two and give Stern's an A!!! Super happy and LFGM!!!!!!

    Another great show as always ladies! With what sterns has done in the trade deadline, I will give him a B/B+. He addressed the needs of the team without sacrificing the future. I'm with you Ashely on the Tylor Megill case! 😉Sam, I need to hear more about these long islands' stories. I am highly intrigued on what's happening on that side of N.Y. 😆😄

    There’s a NY media narrative that a trade deadline is a failure if there isn’t a huge splashy trade, regardless if it’s a good business deal or not. Stearns is an exceptional business man that made several great “low risk, high potential “ trades. This team is rolling and he made it better. The fact that Stearns said all his prospects were asked about shows he was trying to get something done for the right price, but didn’t because they were a huge overpay. That gives me so much more confidence in him than if he traded away the farm, and made a huge splash for Crochet or someone. He’s building an organization, not just making moves just to make headlines. LGM.

    Great show as always! Considering the fact that we didn’t have to give up any of our top prospects to get some players that should help us. Rental players are a good idea when you have a lot of good young prospects on the way. I think that makes it a solid B+.
    I loved the comments about both Tylor McGill and David Peterson. I agreed with the analysis about both! It’s ironic but they both have the same issues. They go way too deep in most of their counts which means they have 100 pitches like by the fourth inning in addition if anything (I mean anything) goes wrong, They both go in the tank. What’s a bit frustrating about both of them is they have good stuff but have never really been able to take it to the field. I think Peterson could possibly make for a good long reliever, but I’m totally in agreement that McGill has had a shot and I don’t see it getting any better
    What a fun season!

    Great episode as always, I'm with you where I feel like this deadline was successful in terms of the value of players Stearns got vs. who he gave up, but it also just feels like this team deserved a move that had a little more impact. It wasn't 2022 by any means, where I truly believe Eppler ruined the season with the trade deadline that he had. But it's also not a deadline that gets you pumped up as a fan or as a player. Senga's injury really ruined the deadline because if Stearns made these exactly moves with Senga in the fold, we'd be happy.

    Shows you how much of a sellers market it is when good, but not topnotch pitchers like Jack Flaherty and Yosei Kukuchi are being traded for highly rated prospects. You could imagine how much was being asked for more coveted pitchers who did not get moved such as Tarik Skubal and Garrett Crochet. As you both stated, if you can fill your needs at the deadline without parting with your most prized prospects, it is definitely a win.

    My wife and I both agreed with your grades on the trading deadline, and the pod was well done.
    I am at a B, as we needed yet another back-end starter. I am not a fan of DP or Tylor, and between
    Seve, Quintana, and Sean, don't you think one of them will have an issue before the end of the year?
    DP and Tylor constantly pitch from behind. I know we are 8-5 since the break, but as a Met fan since the 60's,
    I am jaded and of course think the worst is ahead. Glass 1/4 filled.

  • @ethank-l4930

    C+ for me overall, not flashy names but stearns stayed with his mission of not being reckless and sending away the whole farm. Soon though in the future you can expect him to have those big name trades. He addressed the rotation giving an upgrade over megill and improved the bullpen

  • @libra3655
    @libra3655 Місяць тому

    I was extremely satisfied with what Stearns has done at this trade deadline. Eppler would have gotten us half of that for twice as much.
    That said, Stearns didn't jeopardize any potential problems that might pop up this off-season. If Alonso leaves, Vientos is clear to shift to first and Baty/Mauricio can compete for third. Blackburn means there's one less hole to fill in the rotation this off-season. We might be able to snag Sevi for another couple of years, and maybe grab a solid 3 guy for our rotation and really get a good start to next season.

    The METS don'r have what you might call a starting staff. Most of their starters run out of gas between the 4th and 6th inning (SENGA and SEVERINO excepted) and they needed a quality starter.

    ADRIAN HOUSER should not have been DFAd.

    • @jason7638
      @jason7638 Місяць тому

      The Mets need to be strict at making certain moves that to some degree might appear like it wasn't the right move.
      Johan Ramirez
      Jorge Lopez
      Jake Diekman
      Adrian Houser
      Ex
      Even Michael Tomkin who I watched last night help the Yankees keep that 1 run lead to defeat the Phillies in the longest game yet this season.
      Moves have to happen with this 2024 Mets team and the direction that they're headed in.
      Another one that comes to mind is Dennis Santana.
      Out of these names I mentioned honestly I'll tell you that I was in a questioned state for a little time as to why the Mets released 3 of these guys. That is Santana, Ramirez and Lopez. But I'm over it now.
      The bullpen that is beginning to take shape this time around for the Mets now is on another level. I just really like the idea of having a nunber of arms in the pen aside from Diaz who can all close out an inning or 2 or close out a game if they're called upon to have todo that.
      I thought they would have those kinds of arms in Santana, Ramirez and Lopez but it is what it is. I'm over it and now their pen will be even better than what it was going to be.

    • @jason7638
      @jason7638 Місяць тому

      And maybe you're right about Houser but, I'm over him and I moved on. They moved guys that I actually wanted them to move off the team. Diekman and Houser were 2 of them.
      But Stanek and Butto is an upgrade over those 2 and they added Huascar as well on top of that. And Matt Gage I've been having the sense that he will be an upgrade over Diekman. And when Nuñez is added back, along with a healthy Foley, that's going to be a force of a pen.
      And Zuber watch out for him. These are under the radar acquisitions that I believe are going to be bigger pieces than people are thinking.

    • @jason7638
      @jason7638 Місяць тому

      Inconsiderare fans want Cohen to be the Mets Steinbrenner if I spelled that right. ☺️ Stearns will help him not be that. They are not to be the Yankees of queens or like the Yankees. They are to be The Mets. They will spend at just the right times but they will be extremely intelligent about it. Stearns knows what he is doing. He knows how to help the Mets make a real push now without eliminating what they have in store for the future.
