    I really like your set-up and have many of the same equipment you have. I cannot conceptualize what parts I nee to get the pipe/manifold to return connection correct. Can you advise what connection you used? Also, what connections are you using for the reactors? Obviously you removed the stock connections, but what did you replace them with?

    • @ModernReefer
      @ModernReefer  6 років тому

      It's a barb fitting on the manifold and a barb fitting on the red sea reefer. Then a tube connects them both together.

    • @joeyshuckhart1528

    Hi.. was wondering .. the reefer overflow is based on a syphon and needs constant flow in order to be quiet. Adding a manifold feeding other reactors should theoretically disrupt the constant flow and cause gurgling noises when the syphon is disrupted. What's your experience? I have a reefer 425xl and want to do a similar manifold but don't want any noise from the overflow. Thanks.

    • @ModernReefer

    Nice set up bro I know you posted this some time back. I just wanted to ask how are the aquamaxx doing hanging like that? Are they leaking? And did you use silicone or rubber washers when you changed the plumbing to them because they come with rubber O-rings right.? I'm about to set up my sump and I really want to hand them but I was afraid with filled with water they would be to heavy and start leaking after time.

    Sump looks great! Can you give me a little more detail about what you did from manifold to OEM return. I know the reefer is metric. Coming off of the 3/4 did you cap with a barb and then run the green tubing to the return. Thanks

    • @ModernReefer
      @ModernReefer  8 років тому

      I just kept the factory barb on there and then from my manifold, I put a barb in it. Then used the green tube to connect them both. It was easier that way for me.

      I'm new to this plumping pvc stuff, I'm going to use 1" pvc all around until each value then reduce to small 3/4 pvc.
      I'm trying to make out how you did some parts.
      Say your first tee that connects to the reactor/canister.
      This is where I'm confused. Now what items do you need after the red value to connect right to the reactor/canister?
      I notice you don't have a union if that's what you call them to disconnect the canister/reactor, any reason why.
      Never did plumbing so sorry for noobie questions. Thanks

    • @ModernReefer
      @ModernReefer  8 років тому

      All my "T's" are 3/4" on both ends with 1/2" in the center. The center is connected to the threaded gate valve. Then the other end of the thread gate valve is connected to a thread to slip 1/2" adapter. Then there's a small 1/2" pipe that connects this 1/2" adapter to the 1/2" adapter on the reactor. I hope that makes sense. I have to change the reactor's barb fitting to a 1/2" male threaded on one end and a slip on the other end.

    i dont see. how to replace the return line. and put pvc in...i need step by step...my plug is leaking...the return one...

    • @ModernReefer
      @ModernReefer  8 років тому

      Sorry I really dont have any step by step instructions as this is not a DIY setup. It was just what I had put together. My setup did not replace the return line. I left it there and used the barb fitting. I then had a barb fitting on the manifold and then connected the two with a flex tube.

    Do you have to use the soft tubing to actually connect from the hard plumbing to the Red Sea return?

    • @ModernReefer
      @ModernReefer  7 років тому

      soft tubing.

    • @VCVet
      @VCVet 7 років тому +1

      The soft tubing also helps isolate vibration from the pump. However, you can use a length of PVC pipe with a slit cut down one side to cover the flex tubing and make it look like it's all hard plumbed.

    Love the setup! I'm waiting for my 350 due next month.
    quick question, how difficult was the plumbing and what skimmer are you using?

    • @ModernReefer
      @ModernReefer  8 років тому

      +yawarworld plumbing took a lot of test fitting but it wasn't too bad. If you would like the same setup, email reeflabs.net for a package deal on the reactors and gate valve. The skimmer was bought from here: reeflabs.net/protein_skimmer/Simplicity_240dc
      This skimmer is awesome. It's a DC skimmer so you can control the speed of the pump.

      Modern Reefer just wondering why you went with the over spec’d 240 model instead of the 120. Leaning towards a simplicity skimmer for a new 350 build myself.

    • @ModernReefer
      @ModernReefer  8 років тому

      I hard plumb mine but then set it up with a barb on the pvc to connect to the skimmer. If you have a JBJ chiller, you can actually use a 1/2" pvc pipe and connect it directly to the JBJ chiller.

    Why not put partition in aquamaxx reactor and run both gfo and bio pellets in one reactor saving a gate valve for something else

    • @ModernReefer
      @ModernReefer  3 роки тому

      GFO requires a slow flow to tumble while the bio pellet requires more flow to tumble

    Youre gonna regret not getting the 450. With all that invested, you are better off with a bigger tank with the 450..for only $400 more.

    • @ModernReefer

      I know what you mean but because I have a 4ft wall, I had to choice but to get the 350. What sucks is that they now offer the 425xl which is 4ft in length but a bit wider.
