I just hard plumbed my 425xl all red. Same aqua max media reactors. I have to say yours is really neat and compact. Great job
What pipe mounting did you use
Thanks.
@@joeb1906 I just used regular pipe mounting hardware found in the electrical section.
Your videos packed with great ideas
I have another one that I still need to create to help with battery backup. Just haven't had the time yet.
@@ModernReefer no rush. Whenever you have time post it so we can learn. I’m going to start my manifold this weekend m. It’s a v3 sump and I don’t want to change the two drain so will put manifold in front of the main and emergency drains
@@hkn2718 That will work just fine.
I vote you for having the best sump system for a reefer series tank. Keep it up. I'd like to see more about your sump system.
Thanks! You can read more about it here: paulsvang.com/mylife/red-sea-reefer-350-sump-hard-piping-setup/
I actually sold this setup but will be building a new setup with a larger tank. Hopefully soon!
Your plumbing skills are needed on my Reefer 525 XL. Very Nice Job! You are hired!
Thanks.
Great job on the manifold. I'm planning to get a 425 XL and this gives me an idea how to do it right. Very well thought out.
Thanks. Have you looked at the WaterBox aquarium as an option? Something like this reeflabs.net/products/Aquarium_Tanks
My Red Sea Reefer 350 is en route at this very moment. I'm shopping for components and am inspired by your video. Eager to find out what you've learned, any modifications you might have made to the setup design, and what additional components you've added to the mix. Thank you for posting... This is very helpful!
I havent made any change however I've added in a calcium reactor. I still need to put up a vide on that new stuff.
Nice set up buddy. Still running?
thanks
Hi we're did you purchase your gate valves from pal? I am wanting my 350 sump to look just like this
How did you get the aqua max reactors from leaking ? I've tried to plub mine the same way but are leaking fromt he pvc.
Mine were sealed with pvc glue. The threaded part were sealed with sealing tape.
great job on the plumbing.I will like to hard plumb my 350 one of these days.
You should. It's saves space while keeping things looking nice and neat.
I have this tank. How can I get a copy of your sump set up and manifold. It is so clean and nice. I need it please.
The details to the build can be found here: modernreefer.com/red-sea-reefer-350-sump-hard-piping-setup/
Hello was wondering how you what kind of fittings you it on the reactors? I have 3/4 inch and was going to use a 3/4to 1/2 female coupling. Would that work?
Thats what I used. 3/4" to 1/2" adaptor.
What size screws did you use to mount the manifold? Looks very professional.
I don't recall now but they were purchased from Lowes.
Very nicely done. Where did you get your plumbing ?
You can read more about it here: paulsvang.com/mylife/red-sea-reefer-350-sump-hard-piping-setup/
can you make a video on how you plumbing works and how you connected everything im kinda lost on how you did this 😅😅
I will have to find time to make another video of how it's plumbed together. Subscribe to see it.
Blue Tang well i was supposed to be subscribed since i did it a like a few hours or minutes ago but i subscribed again and im hitting the bell too.
nice clean plumbing job 👍. your reactor is hard plumbed. how do you take off the reactors? also do those AquaMaxx reactors have 1/2" or 3/4" fittings?
Thanks. I had to install the fittings myself. The reactors has screws at the top. Just unscrew and twist; the reactors will drop down.
Blue Tang ok got you. what size are those fittings?
1/2" at the reactor that goes up to the manifold witch is 3/4"
I need you to come clean up my tank when you're done lol. looks great.
+Kings Reef Thanks. It took awhile to get all the stuff but it was well worth it. It came out looking nice. The good thing is that it's compact and clean. I'm trying to fit in a small frag tank along with a dosing setup as well. I'm trying to keep everything neat. Stay tuned.
Very meticulous and detailed setup. Thank you for sharing. Can you please elaborate on how the carbon reactor is removed for media replacement/cleaning? Also, what exactly is supporting the weight of these reactors? How have they been secured?
Thanks!
-Ted
should it be mounted on the side. where you have the clips. or leave it. in the skimmer chamber
Which model/s of Aquamaxx reactors did you use. On the Aquamaxx website it looks like the Carbon/GFO media reactor and the Biopellet reactor are different sizes?
I really like your set-up and have many of the same equipment you have. I cannot conceptualize what parts I nee to get the pipe/manifold to return connection correct. Can you advise what connection you used? Also, what connections are you using for the reactors? Obviously you removed the stock connections, but what did you replace them with?
It's a barb fitting on the manifold and a barb fitting on the red sea reefer. Then a tube connects them both together.
Blue Tang - oh okay, apparently the lighting was dim and I couldn’t see the green tubing. What fittings did you use to modify the Aquamax reactors? It kinda looks like a bigger downpipe in the biopellet reactor. Did you drill it out and use a larger slip connect?
You can read more about it here: paulsvang.com/mylife/red-sea-reefer-350-sump-hard-piping-setup/
i see you dont have a bunch of flow through your sump... is low flow better then letting the water flow quickly through sump?
So nice setup!
Hi,
can u show us some Details of this Pipes. I got the 425 Xl and love ur plumbing skills.
amazing, can you help with
1. what skimmer is that?
2. do you recommend the aqamaxx? was it hard to open and replace the media?
That is a Simplicity DC240 Skimmer. The perfect size and it's very quiet. You can get it here: reeflabs.net/Simplicity_240dc The aquamaxx are awesome. Opening the unit is pretty easy. Just loosen the screw then the whole unit can twist off.
You succeded in making it look neat. Thanks for sharing
Thank you
very nice sump bro, what type of rock you have in the DI setup?
Thanks for sharing, this Sump Setup is GOOD...will use this as template/inspiration for my next reef build..
how much are selling it for and what kind of skimmer do you have
Wonderful setup, Star Trek Clean :)
My 350 sump looks more Walking Dead, but now i have something to aspire too
Thanks Andrew. I'm sure with some elbow and grease you could get yours looking nice as well.
Awesome set up in your sump there pal, very neat. Are your reactors supported underneath, cant make out on the video?
Thank you. The reactors are not supported underneath. They are hung.
What size fitting is needed to connect the overflow .Im trying to have my sump go down to the basement but having trouble finding the fitting to the overflow pipe ?
I just used the barb fitting that was on there. Then from my manifold, I put a barb on it. I connected the two with a the green hose that it came with. I just cut a small piece to make the connection between the barbs.
Nice setup. I have a 425XL. I have the two reactors in the return pump chamber. Is that ok? Did you use baffles for your refugium?
I have a small glass tank in the sump area about 1.5" from the top of the water surface.
Hi.. was wondering .. the reefer overflow is based on a syphon and needs constant flow in order to be quiet. Adding a manifold feeding other reactors should theoretically disrupt the constant flow and cause gurgling noises when the syphon is disrupted. What's your experience? I have a reefer 425xl and want to do a similar manifold but don't want any noise from the overflow. Thanks.
It's very quiet. I'm running a vectra l1 pump which is controllable. I'm only at half power. I adjust the return valve as needed to ensure it's quiet.
Nice set up bro I know you posted this some time back. I just wanted to ask how are the aquamaxx doing hanging like that? Are they leaking? And did you use silicone or rubber washers when you changed the plumbing to them because they come with rubber O-rings right.? I'm about to set up my sump and I really want to hand them but I was afraid with filled with water they would be to heavy and start leaking after time.
Also curious about the silicone or rubber.
Sump looks great! Can you give me a little more detail about what you did from manifold to OEM return. I know the reefer is metric. Coming off of the 3/4 did you cap with a barb and then run the green tubing to the return. Thanks
I just kept the factory barb on there and then from my manifold, I put a barb in it. Then used the green tube to connect them both. It was easier that way for me.
Hey there,
Nice setup, got myself a tank too.
From your Taps, what is the next piece or pieces on it before it hooks up to each reactor?
Not sure which one you're referring to. Maybe this might help you paulsvang.com/mylife/red-sea-reefer-350-sump-hard-piping-setup/
I'm new to this plumping pvc stuff, I'm going to use 1" pvc all around until each value then reduce to small 3/4 pvc.
I'm trying to make out how you did some parts.
Say your first tee that connects to the reactor/canister.
This is where I'm confused. Now what items do you need after the red value to connect right to the reactor/canister?
I notice you don't have a union if that's what you call them to disconnect the canister/reactor, any reason why.
Never did plumbing so sorry for noobie questions. Thanks
All my "T's" are 3/4" on both ends with 1/2" in the center. The center is connected to the threaded gate valve. Then the other end of the thread gate valve is connected to a thread to slip 1/2" adapter. Then there's a small 1/2" pipe that connects this 1/2" adapter to the 1/2" adapter on the reactor. I hope that makes sense. I have to change the reactor's barb fitting to a 1/2" male threaded on one end and a slip on the other end.
I guess you used simple pvc/pipe type clams to screw into the Red Sea stand to mount your reactors to? Do you have another viceo showing how they're mounted a little better? Trying to decide if I want to do it that way on my 750xxl. Thanks.
They are standard pvc pipe screw on clamps.
im trying to plum the underneath with pvc. how do i do it...
how do i run plumbing to return. m1. votwc pump...tubing or hard line?
How did you hard plumb the reactors? Did you use unions? What size fittings?
Details can be read here: paulsvang.com/mylife/red-sea-reefer-350-sump-hard-piping-setup/
Hi, very nice sump ! great job ! i have one question, what is the hose air skimmer connected to ? this pipe should be open and free ? thank you and have a nice sunday. Marc from Normandy - France
it is going to a co2 scrubber. This will remove any co2 from the air so that the ph in the tank does not drop.
Thank you, i 've never heard about that. Don't know if you have any significant results
Awesome setup! Do you mind sharing what kind of Chiller you are using?
It's a JBJ Chiller. Check out the link for more details reeflabs.net/products/Chiller/JBJ_Arctica_Titanium_Chiller_DBE-200_1-4-HP
What make you switch from M1 to L1? Was the flow insufficient after the manifold and reactor go in? Also do you use a partition to keep the macro away from the skimmer?
I needed more flow just in case I decide to add in more equipment. I figure it's best to use the L1 and turn down the flow vs having to upgrade later if I had the M1.
Seems like you got waaaaay too much chaeto in there, and shouldn't it be tumbling to be getting light 360 around the ball of chaeto?
It's a work of art. Sub'd. I need to step my sump game up lol. My 350 is not even close to that level. That's my next goal is to hard plumb my return with a clean manifold like yours. I like the gate valves, where did you source them? How did you make you final connection to the existing verticals return line... Coupling? Great video
I've seen alot of your videos by the way. Great work. Any how I chose to do a barb to barb setup with a tube connecting them together. This was the easiest approach since the fittings are in metric and it's hard to find the right parts to get it fitted correctly. The gate valves are pretty expensive. They are spears gate valves. Send me a private message.
+Blue Tang I just found your blog. It's incredibly detailed. Well done... I'll send you a PM, going to attempt a similar design. I say similar because it'll be so difficult to duplicate this beauty.
Nice. Just let me know. I'm open to share what I know.
Blue Tang Thanks!
what size fittings did you use coming out of the return side of the pump?
Coming out of the pump is a 1" pvc sch 80 to a 1"to3/4" reducer. My manifold is a 3/4" setup because I was going to use the M1 pump but then decided to up it to the vectra L1 which has a 1" output.
How do you keep the algae from clogging up the skimmer intake? Are you using some divider?
There s glass tank within my sump that is 1.5" below the water surface. The algae stays in that glass tank.
What kind of pvc fittings are you using to connect the reactors to the gate valve? Im designing a similar setup but I’m not sure what fittings to get. Also, what size gate valves are you using?
Check this out for more details on the sump build. Let me know if you have any other questions. paulsvang.com/mylife/red-sea-reefer-350-sump-hard-piping-setup/
I used a standard schedule 80 pvc adapter with thread on one end. www.lowes.com/pd/Charlotte-Pipe-1-2-in-dia-PVC-Sch-80-Adapter/3699088
Thank you so much for the prompt reply. Your attention to detail and meticulousness are very evident in the video. Hoping to create something similar to your setup.
Love your set up. Just got my 525xl anx want to do someghing similar to you set up. What reactors are you using?
reeflabs.net/AquaMaxx_STANDARD_Bio_Pellet_and_GFO-Carbon_Reactor_Package
Hey sorry to bother you but I was wondering what c02 scrubber you are using on your skimmer?
what size pipe and valves did you use in the manifold? and I'm kinda stumped on the part that goes back to the tank, I'm trying to do this kind of setup and thanks for the inspiration
3/4" with a barb at the end. Then I connected a tube on the manifold barb to the red sea barb
thanks, probably was a stupid question but I'm sure not no plumber lol, thx
Do you have your refugium algae just inside the same area as the skimmer or do you have them separated somehow?
Douglas Lee there's a small 2.5 gallon glass tank in there just 1.5" below the surface of the water
Ah, thanks. I found one of these on ebay and am going to give it a go: www.reefdreams.co.uk/acatalog/Reefer-Baffle-Kits.html
how and why does the carbon run straight to your skimmer air intake solve ph?? really want to stabalise my ph! thanks!
it's to skim the bacterias that escape from the bio pellets. pH is something totally different. There will always be a slight swing in pH from day to night. I'm not sure what kind of swings you are having but if it's not too big, it should be fine.
i have a red sea 350 do i need to put a bio pellet reactor on her...the aqua?
You dont have too. I just did to help control nitrates.
Very nice setup!
One question, your l1 return pump is also running the skimmer?
No. The skimmer has it's own pump however the bio pellet react's output is feed into the skimmer via a "T" fitting so that any bacteria coming from the bio pellet reactor is skimmed out of the tank.
ok, thanks. I just ordered the 250, cant wait for delivery. Subbed ur channel.
thats good. You'll like it.
what is that jado algea in the white clip on netting?
chaeto is in the white net.
how can i plum my red sea 350. with pvc...i want yo run the return from pump to flex tubing straight up...do a 90...to 1.5 ft pvc...another 90...back up to tank.
I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to say.
i dont see. how to replace the return line. and put pvc in...i need step by step...my plug is leaking...the return one...
Sorry I really dont have any step by step instructions as this is not a DIY setup. It was just what I had put together. My setup did not replace the return line. I left it there and used the barb fitting. I then had a barb fitting on the manifold and then connected the two with a flex tube.
Do you have to use the soft tubing to actually connect from the hard plumbing to the Red Sea return?
soft tubing.
The soft tubing also helps isolate vibration from the pump. However, you can use a length of PVC pipe with a slit cut down one side to cover the flex tubing and make it look like it's all hard plumbed.
I actually found a threaded piece to hard plumb mine completely.
thats awesome. I had a hard time fining the right thread.
Love the setup! I'm waiting for my 350 due next month.
quick question, how difficult was the plumbing and what skimmer are you using?
+yawarworld plumbing took a lot of test fitting but it wasn't too bad. If you would like the same setup, email reeflabs.net for a package deal on the reactors and gate valve. The skimmer was bought from here: reeflabs.net/protein_skimmer/Simplicity_240dc
This skimmer is awesome. It's a DC skimmer so you can control the speed of the pump.
Modern Reefer just wondering why you went with the over spec’d 240 model instead of the 120. Leaning towards a simplicity skimmer for a new 350 build myself.
i have a actica. chiller. i run a powerhead to it. then return back to slimmer area...
can you help.me. i want to add my chiller line to pvc...how do i do it
Paul Vang43 minutes agoLook at this site to see if it will help you with getting your chiller line to pvc paulsvang.com/mylife/red-sea-reefer-350-sump-hard-piping-setup/
i still cannot see to dark to connect my chiller to the main return
I hard plumb mine but then set it up with a barb on the pvc to connect to the skimmer. If you have a JBJ chiller, you can actually use a 1/2" pvc pipe and connect it directly to the JBJ chiller.
i have a 150 vertex skimmer
where did u order the plumbing from?
pcvfittingsonline.com is where I bought most of my fittings.
what size female will fit the return...3/4. gray
I use the barb fitting that was on there. Then I had my own barb fitting from the manifold. I connected the two with a hose.
did your red sea 350 come with a protein skimmer
No. None of them do but if you need one, let me know. I might have one for you. Message me here.
Blue Tang what brand u selling ?
no. it does not but you can get one from reeflabs.net for a good deal. Just email them.
what abd where can i find the net?
At your LFS. Thats where I bought mine.
does anyone else see the Grimm reaper in the base of the skimmer, the way the algae is built up on the side makes it look like it, kinda freaky huh
Nice plumbing job
Can you run gfo and biopellets togetgerv
yes. I only run it if the biopellets cant get the phophate low enough.
so badass, good job!
Thanks
Why not put partition in aquamaxx reactor and run both gfo and bio pellets in one reactor saving a gate valve for something else
GFO requires a slow flow to tumble while the bio pellet requires more flow to tumble
@@ModernReefer got it my Asian brother!!
@@hkn2718 You're welcome.
@@ModernReefer how did you fixate the uv unit in the skimmer chamber?
You did your manifolds 3/4 with reducers before entering 1/2 gate valves right
nice plumbing job
thanks!
what is it called...?
I think it's called a breeder net.
any updates?
I've been busy with making changes to the setup. I will try to put up a new video soon. Thanks.
Thanks. Look forward to seeing how things work out. Good video.
Awesome, best ever seen
Thanks Guanglei Liu!
copy...barb. to barb...with pvc threads... im going to put a y fitting. to return from chiller and main return line.
okay. cool.
Buen sump buena instalacion!!!!!me gusta y me suscribo!!!
Thank you
Youre gonna regret not getting the 450. With all that invested, you are better off with a bigger tank with the 450..for only $400 more.
I know what you mean but because I have a 4ft wall, I had to choice but to get the 350. What sucks is that they now offer the 425xl which is 4ft in length but a bit wider.
i want my chiller to be plummed into the return...
Mine is plumb in as well.
Просто супер🖒
