- 'Western Tidal Swell' is the opening track on Iona Lane's debut album 'Hallival'.
This song is inspired by the Isle of Rum off the West Coast of Scotland and is draws inspiration from a section of Edwin Waugh’s 19th century book 'A Limping Pilgrim'. Edwin is told a story of an Isle of Rum resident who is banished to the Isle of Coll, twenty south-west and begs to drink water from the old Kilmory well back in Rum in a bid to save their life.
Karine Polwart and Julie Fowlis, amongst other judges, selected 'Western Tidal Swell' as one of the winners in the Fèis Rois/NatureScots’ In Tune with Nature competition in 2020.
