    For the algorithm:
Bear over at Bear Independent once calculated that 750 pounds of either corn, beans, wheat or rice would have enough calories (not macros) to keep a military aged male alive for a year. An Army logistics paper I read said 7 gallons of water per troop per day for drinking, hygeine and maintenance in a humid environment (like summer in the South). Do the math for your family members, dogs, hogs and chickens who aren't 200 pound men, but do have to eat.
Lay in Nutrient Survival (good stuff) for its purposes: in your pack, as a change from beans and rice, etc
The Good Book says He wins in the End. Doesn't say it will be easy or fun.

Yup, takes about 3 of the smaller packs of this stuff to fill me up for a meal, very low on calories (small servings) but the flavor is great on these, and its has tons of nutrients. :) Great for filling in the gaps.

My understanding is that Bear said 75lbs combined of all four items per month, which breaks down to about 19lbs of each. The reason is that when cooked together or consumed in the same day one item works in concert with another as a complimentary protein e.g. beans/rice

    Nice!
Yep, I call it emergency food, not survival food. Get a lot of the Mountain House and Alpineaire ones, they have more GF options (not a choice for me sadly), if Nutrient expanded their options to include more of those I'd be all over it. Stowaway Gourmet is also a nice choice, they're definitely bougie for E-meals/ Hiking meals though heheh.
    Other items I recommend:
    - Idahoan brand stuff (mashed potatoes and soups are their thing in large)
    - Wyler's Soup mixes (adding fresh meats to them is cash money)
    - General stock of Canned and Jarred goods (kind of a no brainer lol), everything from veggies to fish and chicken, usually have a couple years shelf life
    - 100% have a garden if you can

They always tell you to add too much water! Just add the word "soup" to the end of whatever you're supposed to be eating and the directions will be perfect

Us Preppers have to Stock food in Various Tiers:
#1 is overall Caloric Intake, many "Survival Food" Brands advertise grossly underlist the Caloric content per "serving size"
Estimate: 180lb Man for 2500-3500 calories Per Day, depending on activity level.
    2. Store extra the foods you actually eat everyday that store well and rotate by Expiration/Use By dates.
When go shopping, instead of 1 buy 2, this stretches out costs.
    3. Foods that are premade, precooked, ready to Eat like MRE's, potted meats, meals in cans-foil packs for BOBs, and Get home bags where you can't or dont want to start fires to have to boil and reconstitute your freeze dried/dehydrated food packs. You also need large amounts of extra water to eat them, if you eat large amounts dry, they will horrendously constipate you by sucking the water out your GI tract, which will quickly be a problem. Save those for homesteads, safe secluded base camps etc
    4. During actual Bugging Out/Long Recon/Patrols: Buy, pack 'Eat on the Go' foods/snacks: jerky, pemmican, trail-mixes, nuts, honey based treats, Clif Bars, Energy/Protein bars, that you can easily pullout and eat while moving, taking water/foot check breaks, etc.
    5. Layered/Tiered food stores:
    A. Foods you regularly eat (This should be the bulk of your survival pantry)
    B. Foods Ready To Eat (No extra water, fires, boiling) for Bugging out, Getting Home, Long Covert/overt Patrols, Patrol Bases (No fires, MRE heater type only)
    C. Long Term Freeze-Dried, Dehydrated foods for tasty variety in more secure locations, homesteads, etc.
    D. Snacks on the go while moving, brief breaks while Bugging Out, Patrolling, Recon, etc.
    KEEP ON PREPPING!

I use this system religiously EVERY trip to the store. Over time I have gained at least a years worth of dish soap, body wash, shampoo, deodorant, toilet paper, paper towels and 10 of the 48 hour freeze dried survival boxes for a family of 4....which is decent since it's just me. It started as pandemic prepping and became a SOLID set of emergency supplies to compliment all this stored water I have. I've scaled back my buying to one item per trip, the way I see it, if SHTF, I'm screwed anyway if things don't settle in 3 or 4 months. With my health I won't be able to sustain myself beyond a year off grid, assuming lack of medicine doesn't get me in 3 months. A years supply of everything I need should be plenty, as of now I'm buying only freeze dried meals. I'm no grunt or elite prepper, but I'm trying.

The coffee is interesting. If you plan on feeding many people for an extended period I would suggest a freeze drier. Nothing needs to go in the food but what you put there . Rotisserie chicken from Sam’s taste just like you brought it home. I’ve heard they’re a good company. We just chose a different route about the time Mr. Potato Head assumed the throne . Actually was a coincidence. Their packaging system is much better in saving / utilizing space though . Good video. Have a good one

Whenever I have this conversation with someone I always ask them if they've ever calculated how much salt they would be consuming from F.D. foods to get 3k daily . Those 'year's supply' offerings usually end up being about 1400 cals/day - which is a starvation diet.

Ive got four ten day buckets from nutrient survival so far. Im on a subscription so im just gonna make sure to keep money in the account so they can just keep automatically coming in the mail as it has been. Thats not the only food I've been getting though. I don't suspect we have much time before things get to bad for anyone to ignore and I'm pretty late to the game so im ramping things up. Im even about to buy my first property. The people there seem to be very 'm'ur-kuh so I think it'll be cool. Im working on kit for rucking and for combat, but since this is P.A., and Im on felon status with the law for being a f*ckin idiot, I have to adapt and work around that. Regardless of that though, I'm getting there.

Carbs are for when you don't meat and fat. So since I always have those things around there's no need. You might get away with it for a long time, depending, but to put simply, I have folks around me that have all sorts of aliments that it would help. It's as easy to store and cheap as anything. Fat is about $2 a pound.

  • @warriorwolf77
    @warriorwolf77 3 місяці тому

Very little reason not to stock up on multivitamin pills too, they're cheap, last a good amount of time and the vast majority of people are deficient in something, maybe not entirely but to some degree.
Powdered stuff sucks but it's edible and if you need something it lasts forever.
Sugar, salt and vinegar also are worth stocking though you need a lot for anything beyond making things taste, dehydrating or pickling take a lot but you can air dry meat and such too.
For that matter condiments and spices are worth it as well, some change to your daily ration of powdered eggs does wonders.

Freeze dried stuff is the last tier in my emergency food plan and I had to switch some things up after learning we have a gluten allergy in the family. (went away from all the pre made meals , spaghetti, lasagne, stroganoff etc) and now buy individual ingredients that I can make meals out of. The overall food quality , storage life, as well as variety of what I can do with them has made freeze dried foods a realistic option in my supplies using this approach.

I have a bunch of Nutrient survival, some wise (black package), mountain house and Happy Yak. None of this stuff is going to be confused with Michelin star food, but serves the intended purpose. One caution to be aware of, many brands have high levels of sodium! While not so bad if your activities have you sweating heavily, if not, it can be an issue. If shtf, proper nutrition and vitamins can be hard to get. This stuff really fills out the need.

I am growing peas, green beans, broccoli, brussel sprouts carrots, radishes, and abit more, in addition to stuff already growing and what my parents have planted
If your soil is bad, i recommend for you to grow nitrogen fixers (peas and beans, and ideally sea buckthorns in addition) and radishes (these do add nutrients to the soil and are honestly quick and easy to grow) in addition to the obvious of starting compost
For meat, i recommend starting with chickens for eggs and rabbits for meat
