  • Normandy, France, June 6, 1944. All along the beach, thousands of Allied soldiers are fighting for every inch of land they can get.
Across the red-stained sands of Omaha Beach, scattered and disoriented, the men of L Company, integral to the United States Army's historic Big Red One 1st Division, find themselves in an unexpected stand.
Surrounded by machine-gun-armed Germans hiding in the dense hedgerows of the Normandy countryside, fragmented voices cut through the chaos, their broken English carrying a bone-chilling command to surrender.
Amidst the invisible threat of their hidden enemies, Lieutenant Jimmie Monteith refuses to seek cover. Instead, he steps into the fire, directly walking towards the source of the voices, the heft of a grenade reassuring in his grip...

The prominent picture used in this clip is not a picture of Jimmie Monteith. Lt. Monteith was not a paratrooper the officer in the photo was. The accuracy of these clips is a little off ie: Monteith did get a battle commission, he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant from the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Completely screwing up the still photo of the hero of the piece is unforgivable.

I remember being in Iraq late in the campaign and having drone operators who where stationed in Las Vegas be awarded bronze stars . The uproar was so loud they stopped . Higher medals should be awarded to those who deserve them , having non combat folks deny or even upgrade them is sinful .

Where is "the weapon" mentioned in the title? If they are referencing a rifle grenade, it isn't there. As for the photo of a paratrooper instead of him, well, that's just lazy.

That was Lynn "buck" Compton they showed. I love the videos but come on folks. Buck was a lawndart in the 101 Airborne.

Your click bait photo shows a weapon that would not be invented for another 25 years - WTF?

The PHOTO that is used describing this Lt. Montiff is NOT Lt. Montiff. The PHOTO he is using here is of Lt. Buck Compton, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne. I am starting to believe what is being rumored about the Dark Docs Websites detailing historic events. That rumor being, the team and authors of Dark Docs are making stuff up as they are failing to do better research and thus are running out of viable content.

Whats with the clickbait thumbnail? This was a good channel but thumbnails like this one are a pretty clear sign they don’t care about content anymore and they just want to please the algorithm, so sad.

the paratroops didn't land where intended. The "amphibious' tanks all sank, drrowning their crews. The gliders all crashed, killing their crews. D Day was a massive screwup and the only reason it succeeded is the germans were convinced that Normandy was merely a feint and the real invasion would come at Pais De Calay. They continued to believe this for several days, withholding critical reinforcements that could have driven the allies back into the sea.
