I want to hunt with you one of these days! Are you familiar with Sunny Valley/Wolf Creek area?
I hear ya, sister! Mostly due to COVID-19, I had to wait 3 years for a hip replacement, which finally happened Nov. '22. That went very well, ut the rest of my body seems to be rapidly falling apart. Fortunately, over many years I collected (probably) a ton of rocks at the Claif. beaches near where I live. I Placedthem outdoors around my garden and house and enjoyed them like old friends that way. I started watching rockhounds on UA-cam around the time of my hip replacement, learned a lot, and realized that I could rockhound in my very own yard, even though I'm not as mobile as I used to be. 🪨🪴🪨🏡🪨🐦🪨
Just found your channel.
When I was 5 years old about 50 years ago. My family and I went somewhere up by Table Rock area I think. What I remember that a dam was going to be built and put the area under water. We went to hunt for Quartz Crystals; and they were everywhere. Some how my Mon and I got separated from the rest of family. Well my Dad and oldest brother started to whistle. So we started to walk through the forest towards the them. As we were making are way I look to my left and under a pine tree there were 7-9 giant Quartz Crystals septers sticking out of the ground. We went iver to them and tried to get them out, but couldn't move them.
I thiught I could out my feet at the bottom and hands on top and just pull it out of the ground.
My Mon said ket head to family still whistling and yelling at this time.
When we found them we told them about Crystals and tried locating them for about 1 hour...but never did.....I have never forgotten that day.
I would estimate the ine I tried pulling out was about 12-14" and about 6-8" in diameter.
Wow!!! Thank you for sharing basic locations!!
My pleasure!
Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: Doest that area have vibrant jaspers! The scenery there is beautiful! The raven "kaw-ing" was magical. Brings back such spiritual memories. I've felt the most alive during excursions like this... when having that quiet moment in nature.
I fully agree. I cant wait for winter so I can get back to some of these spots. The smoke has been brutal lately so I havnt been able to go to all the spots I want. Thanks for watching and hope to hear from you again ^^
I'm 81 and use a wheelchair so my rockhounding days are over. This video was so cool because I felt like I was there while you explained your finds. Thanks. That was fun. As a Californian I feel the same as you do about rain.
Glad you enjoyed it! So happy you found the channel.
I hope youre staying dry this winter and I look forward to chatting with you more ^^
I recently moved to medford, and started a fencing business. I have been digging holes for a solar array were I found these cool rocks in the moutians off of butte falls highway. Rocks never really interested me before but really trying to find what it could be. Glad I could find someone knowledgeable of the rocks in my area.
Oh man, that is a great area buddy. Hit me up on IG if you need help with the ID
Thanks for supporting the channel and hope to chat with you soon!!
The Klamaths have some of the oldest “rocks” on earth. They and the Blues and Hells Canyon in Eastern Oregon have never been buried by the lava or river ocean deposits of the last 15,000 years. Then right up against them are areas where ancient lakes deposited and of course the stuff from lava flows and volcanic eruptions. Have fun!!
@@TheRogueRockhound
LoL.. and that's prolly the exact way most of us started!
Have fun :)
@@LillianArch you kno... i was up in eagle caps... found a few rocks there. Id forgotten. And there was a yng teen girl there who found a gorgeous calcite, big very crystally.
Boy do i wanna go back to visit. Fun times there :)

True. My grandad was a gold miner all over the mountains here.
Damn, I want to be your "tumbling Friend" - rock tumbling that is! LoL. Those jasp/agate small pieces are so excellent for tumbling! Nice spot!

I appreciated this video. We got a wild hair and had taken a quick trip up here late one afternoon to have a look. We didn't find much but then we didn't have a lot of time and didn't hike nearly as far up as you have here. I'm glad you have had much better luck. What a great day !
Thanks Duke! Hope youre able to get out and do some hounding this spring.

Nice job crossing that creek!! Thank you for your information!!
You bet!
I’ve left my belt many times. One memorable trip I had to hold my shorts up with both hands. lol
HAHA!!
I always check you tube for rockhounds in Oregon, and I saw your video Rockhounding near Medford Oregon and I was truly amazed at what you found on Worthington Road. My mom lives in Medford and my father-in law lives in Grants Pass now I know where to go to get some Agates, Petrified wood and Jasper when I go to visit them. I always did my rock hounding for Carnelian Agates in Lebanon and Sweet home Oregon. My wife and I and a friend dug some Carnelian Agates in Lebanon and we dug up a 15 pound and a 35-pound Carnelian Agate. We also dug some Roger Mountain Petrified Wood in Scio Oregon. Now that I was amazed at what you found on Worthington Road sight I want to go there. You truly found some great specimens there. I recently retired and now I have all the time to go hunting agates, Pet wood and Agatized Jasper. Thank you also for letting your viewers know where to go. Some people out there don't disclose their honey holes because that's their spot to go. Keep them videos coming. I must ask you though, can people still go looking for the pet wood, jasper and agates off of Worthington Road where you were at these days. Can you give me a close location as to how far to go down Worthington Road to go rock hounding, is there a mile post marker to your rock hounding location, like how far to go? I greatly appreciate your video and hope one day we can meet up. William
I greatly appreciate your support and Worthington/Obenchain are still very much open for collecting.
If you look at how Worthington/Obenchain connect you'll see there is a great deal of productive area but specifically, Ive been telling people to go to the yellow gate on the left hand side of Worthington and park. 200yrds up and you'll be in jasper thick. Go up 200yrds and to the left 200yrds and you'll be in Pet Wood country (big stuff). Up 200yrds and to the right 200yrds, will start showing signs of agate/crystals.
I've got plans to do a meet up out there or set some pins on my GPS to share but haven't gotten that done yet.
Chat with you again soon and appreciate all your support.
@@TheRogueRockhound Thank you so much for getting back to me. My wife and I are anxious and looking forward to finding some great specimens there. I also want to Thank you for the details on where to go look for all those goodies. My wife and I greatly appreciate it. We are going there next week in hopes of finding some good specimens. Rogue Rockhound and Prospectors have yourselves a wonderful evening. Once again Thank you and I can't wait for your next video / videos.
Wow! So many nice size quality finds! It looks like a pretty large area on my maps and a doable day trip distance for us. Thanks for letting us know about it!

Thanks and I hope you're able to get out soon ^^
Nice vids man!!! It is great that you leave the locations, having other people do some digging is always helpful. also when you forget your belt do as I do and just take the pants off, tie the legs end, and fill the pants full of rocks!
HAHAHA!
Thnx m8 ^^
I really love the pet wood but that green Jasper wow!
Beautiful specimen up there just can't get enough sometimes ^^

@@TheRogueRockhound Thank you very much kind sir for the generous offer but hope you know that I'd rather hunt the material with you than receive what I know would be an amazing gift from you. (a more satisfying experience IMO) After the snow thaws in the passes this spring I should head down and meet you somewhere for a day or two of hunting. Just text and let me know when where (weekends are best) and I'll adjust my schedule as able. (maybe con Jared into meeting us somewhere? haha) Anyway, fyi..think I'm gonna head back to the same spot this Memorial Day except hunt other areas before the heavy lithium mining begins and if there are some trucks with higher clearance, take folks out to thunderegg beds, a stream with all kinds of stuff and a massive brecciated yellow/red jasper rock outcrop. Talk again soon, have an awesome holiday season!
Very nice flnds. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! The trip was a blast and I appreciate you coming by to join in the fun ^^
Take care ^^
That was so much fun and I'm so glad I found your channel! I might have a solution for you for the forgetting your belt problem. I couldn't stand the feeling of my belt cutting into me every time I bent down to pick up rocks. I switched over to suspenders and I keep them attached to my pants all the time. Way more comfortable!
Great idea!! and so glad you found the channel ^^
Stay dry and have a great week !!!
Some of the pieces your finding looks like opal jaspar. Beautiful finds! 👍😊

you found some really awesome pieces there. I wish I wasn't 5 hours away though. But tomorrow I'm going to Madras, only three hours away, lol. thanks for the awesome video. I watched all 40 minutes of it.
Thanks a ton! If you ever get the chance, this area is perfect during the winter.
Really easy to see all the deposits and the water washes new material downhill.
Thanks again for all the support Alejo, it makes the difference.

Wow, those blue jaspers!
Soooo many different kinds of jasper and agate there ^^
At 20:08. The pink stone your running g into may be cast limb. If the out side looks like wood root. It's probably that. And the previously mentioned pink
Good call. Could also be from the fire that went through there the prior year.
I'm over in klamath and still haven't made it over there. I've got a nice collection of "I don't knows" 😂. They are beautiful and that's all that matters lol. I can definitely relate to the doubling of your weight after a day of collecting. I eventually made a 1 wheel cart thing I pull around because.. well, more. I'm trying to make it to where I can just attach it to my waste or something for hands-free while walking. Maybe train my dog to be a rock hound.. 😂
If you can train the dog, lemme know how ya do it HAHA!!
Thanks for sharing 👍

Well I'm late on watching this one but what can you say but OMG!! You got a lot of beauty off of that hill. And the stuff you had to leave it would kill me. There's always another one lol.
Yeah, I have to leave some for the others HAHA!
Always happy to hear from you Lisa.
Love that green jasper! Wish we had agatized wood in western Washington. Gotta get to Oregon this spring!
Heck Yeah!! This is going to be a good hounding season ^^
Sorry for the delayed response, and hope all is well.
@@TheRogueRockhound already made it to Wasco and Madras this month. Maybe we can figure out a place to meet further south in the near future. Hope your Masters studies are going well!
We just returned from Worthington Rd. Many have been prospecting this area. It’s covered now with ground cover so finding the good stuff is a challenge. The road itself is steep and very rocky. It’s 2 miles to get to the very top so do go off road and look. We found the hike to be a good workout. Now is a good time to go. We didn’t bring home any thing worth bragging about. We could hear rocks getting beat telling us that the big stuff is in the ground. If your in great shape and have all day and cool weather then go, but don’t expect to find big stuff. Most of it has been taken or is in the ground.
Thanks for watching!
I do want to let you know that the Worthington area covers many square miles, all the way back to Obenchain road. If you want big stuff, go to the Obenchain side.
Passed near here on 5 many times and never knew about this place. I kept saying before that you look familiar, and today I finally came to my senses. 😉 I'm sure you've been told this before. Your the real Christian Slater! 😆
HAHA! I've been told I look like Cristian Slater a lot over the years ^^
I’m a bit envious, I do not now of any places in Australia where you walk around and pick up such an abundance of good material. Som3 o& those jaspers are great looking pieces. You have enough for a short of the cleaned up material. (😉). Keep Safe & Keep Rockin
Thanks! and I plan on doing a cleanup this weekend and sharing with some friends for the holidays.
Hope all is well with you and the summer in AU isn't too bad for you ^^

@@GREEKEXPLORERS Congratulations! and thanks for the kind words. Make sure you get plenty of rest ^^
Really nice looking jasper/agate mixtures up there! It sucks a lot of it is torched and just too fractured, but looks like you still finding quality pieces. I love exploring burn areas just because there is so much more exposed rock. people that dont live here just dont understand what has been going on with the drought/climate change. it worries me. so glad to be getting some rain/snow :)

That green jasper is awesome. If the rock is fragile would it be a shale. Found on 66 at the cut out about 10-12 miles up 66? My wife loves the green jasper and agate.
Just watched this and.although it's a year old, I enjoyed it! My sister lives outside of Bandon so I'm slightly familiar with points in Oregon. Glad to hear you were working on a business master's. What schools did you attend if you don't mind me asking? I did 2 semesters at Southwestern in Coos Bay, but had to move back to San Diego to wrap up personal stuff. Thanks for the video's. Good to reminisce in Oregon places I enjoyed on the rockhounding trails. 👍

So I have to say that I am green eyed, and that envy bug hit me kind of hard watching this video! lol. I’m disabled and can’t really go rockhounding any more Green is my absolute favorite color and that jasper is gorgeous

Obrigado e espero que você esteja bem ^^
Was here yesterday and stumbled onto some jasper boulders in the area (way too big to move). Late spring makes it hard to see the ground. Too many stinking wild flowers! Still more jasper thank you can shake a stick at. A few agates but no pet wood.
Great to hear you were able to check things out ^^. The pet wood is up and off to the left about 200 yrds. I think I'm going to try and do a meetup out there soon to help people with a few spots.

That's in a interesting area, have you dug a pit or notched the hill yet?
I wonder what the geology is out there that has dispersed so a wide variety material.
It sure is pretty out there.
I am doing some digging...to see what I can find out about the area but I haven't had much time to do so yet. It seems that the entire area (both sides of the road for a few miles) is chock full of great material.
Once I figure out some more on the area, I'll let you all know ^^.
Stay dry up there buddy.
👍👏
At 21:26 there was the coolest face in the Medfordite! Hey, maybe a good trick would be for me to not pick anything up until I get to the top. Because I tend to pick up every little cool rock until I can’t carry any more.
I feel like we are all guilty of that at some time or another lol
Wow that green jasper is beautiful , would you say this is a family friendly place ? My 3 year old loves to hunt , trying to get her started young 😅
We used to hunt at agate lake before they closed it to rock hunting found some amazing moss agate there.
During the winter is the best time to take young kids and my friend has taken all three of his out there to hound a few times now. I think his oldest is six and youngest is three.
The summer time is a different story as the poison oak can be a bit thick and the ground is dry and hard making extraction hard at times.
I appreciate you watching and starting the next generation of rockhounds out early ^^
Look forward to chatting with you again and if you need any tips on other places to check out, feel free to ask! Stay warm and Happy Holidays.

Sorry for the late reply. I mostly use a backpack from the military surplus store because of the durability and molly anchors.
As for pick, usually just the estwing chipping hammer. The location I am going predominately determines the gear I bring and I will be making a vid soon going through my different kits.

You keep grabbing peices of jasp.agate. the edges are so jagged n sharp. Are the edges like that from fire? Or is that just how the rocks are out there?
Both but mostly the fire. Jasper can get super sharp if cleaved correctly
