    Evening trip to the Gold Nugget Wayside to see if the gold is any good or is it better down where the Applegate dumps into the river? This location is ok to use tools, down at the Applegate section it's Hands and Pans only. Let me know what you think of what we found!

    I've lived here for almost 50 years. That was a flood, diversion or it was the ditch. It was to keep the water from coming over the bank. Or to keep the water on the other side of the concrete wall because it kept washing out. If you followed that wall you will finally, you will probably find an irrigation ditch. So it's a diversion. I can't wait to see what you find

    On the other side of the river from your first shot. That hill is the actual site of the Gold Hill pocket. I have been to the man's house doing work for him. The holes are 15 / 15 and 50 feet deep all over his property. I don't remember what the values were. But all that gold and all that erosion, it ended up in the river. Good luck

    Sometimes it's just been worked too hard, only flood gold to be had. Though it is still nice to see even a few specs sometimes! ⛏🤠👍 Cheers

    I've always wondered about that area. I used to stop there on my way home until the vandalism shut the restrooms down. Damn disrespectful miscreants!
    Thanks for the video

    When you were at the gold nugget site on the road river, If you look directly across the river at that rounded hill, That's where the Gold Hill pocket was found, One giant mass of gold very shallow, I have penned all around that sight and been there, And have only found fly speck size of gold. It's a weird thing, Lots of magnetite, Is an iron stone on top, It is BlM on top

      A guy was sniping out in the river about two weeks after this video was filmed and he got a couple nice nuggets out of some crevices! I think it’s mainly because it’s been hit so hard and that’s super hard concreted gravel

  • @popslogan4934
    @popslogan4934 2 роки тому +3

    I think that concrete is from the old diversion dam that ran an electric power plant just down river. There is defiantly some good gold in and around there, my son and I use to run a dredge all over there before they shut us out, which sucks since we live just down the road in Eagle Point. What I love about the gold in that area is that it’s a very different color that what we find in the Applegate. I’ve heard the town of Gold Hill got its name not just because there is good gold around there but it’s supposed to have a naturally high level of purity.

      Definitely need to do some more exploring there. Wish we could still dredge that river.

      I dredged gold hill before being shut down and yes big big nuggets on the bottom

      Correct on the concrete as well as irrigation water for the valley headed upstream to the rail crossing. The small powerhouse for Gold Hill was downstream about where the road started to the right ad climbed to the top of the gorge level before rail and road bridges. The gold that the town was named for was discovered in an open natural hole opening at the top of the hill directly above Gold Hill. My Grandfather was a noted historian on gold mining and the Chinese labor in the area, co-curator of the exhibit at J'ville museum, built and managed the House of Mystery just south of Gold Hill and family roots date J'ville 1851. Figure out how to get to bottom of river under the bridges and bring it up your offspring for generations would never want for anything.

    I have friends with a horse ranch near there in Eagle Point that said I could prospect the creek. Hope to get down to that area more this summer. Thanks for the videos!

    I have prospected there. I live in Sam's valley. Its better when the water is down. Pretty good sniping there. Check out the other side by bear creek.

    Gold is good in top layer of concrete gravels at the lower gold nugget wayside parking lot

    That place has been worked over for decades.

    I forgot there is a powerhouse down. Below that, it could have been a diversion to take water to the power house

    • @pnwprospecting
      @pnwprospecting  3 місяці тому

      That could totally be it! But your other idea is sound as well! I have actually just recently spent some time up on Gold Hill and got a few samples to run through the crusher. I look forward to getting back down there this summer!

    Gold Nugget Parking Area?
    Do you happen to have a mile marker number?
    We will be traveling the I-5 in a few weeks and we usually stop someplace along there in S. Oregon because we like to go over the passes into California during daylight hours.
    Nice work on the video too!

    The picker gold runs about 50 yd out in the river, I found them personally with a small dredge Years ago.

    I’m always curious if any of the brown dirt they are dumping has gold in it. Gold powder can appear as brown.

      It’s all about specific gravity even 400 mesh beach gold goes straight to the bottom of the pan. Anything above the black sand layer is just trash.

    Do use the built in go pro mic? Good clear audio, even with the water in the background.

    • @pnwprospecting

      Yeah I use the internal mic on the go Pro eight it does a decent job but I feel like my GoPro seven with the external microphone did a little better but it was more work and not waterproof
