Man, this guitar guy is outstanding
This storytelling singing is also interesting.
Hadn't heard Cheryl Waters voice in a while, and noticed a lisp. My first thought was she'd had a stroke, but turns out she had a piece of her tongue removed after a 2nd bout with cancer. God Bless You, Cheryl - thanks for continuing to go on air.
was wondering what happened thanks
Yes noticed that, top girl wouldn't be the same without you. Keep it going
CHERYL WATERS + KEXP + DRY CLEANING = AMAZING COMBO 🏆🥳🏆
Cheryl Waters is a goddamned soldier
Her bad-ass voice will echo through the ages. WELCOME
I adore Florence's vivid and surreal imagination and her deadpan delivery. The whole band seem lovely.
Check out the late Anna Wildsmith and her band Sow. Her stuff is kinda hard to find on streaming services. Check out The World Is My Oyster for more of that sardonic deadpan accented and buttery voice.
To me this sounds like black box recorder
Deadpan delivery is an interesting way of saying talking.
Such a good line, "Do everything and feel nothing".
Yes! And "Feel everything and do nothing". What a performance from an amazing band.
It is. And, "feel everything and do nothing" is a good reversal of that line.
@@zenpaganwarriorYes, I'm probably do nothing and get fatter but I'm really going to try and do something today, maybe.
@Luna Tuna Like a scratchcard lanyard
after listening to their music so much anything florence says normally speaking sounds instantly poetical, like when they are talking about eating food after the set and she says "mash potatoes", im nodding my head like yah thats beautiful how profound.
Flo makes it look so easy.
A true professional 👩💼🎤🎵
It’s so comforting to see Cheryl Waters intro’ing bands in the studio despite everything that’s happening in the world. Makes me feel like everything will be OK.
her voice definitely has some sort of soothing quality to it, maybe a bit motherly, i suppose
I feel bad to have to be the one to say it, but it's from last winter=/ I remember hearing this on the radio when I was still in the office
@@ambros1us96 description says recorded march 10 2020, so it was right before the lockdowns
Did she have a stroke? I don’t remember her having that lisp
The interview is a joy too. So many in studio interviews during live performances are so awkward and/or outright bad.

I'd love to see this comment earlier in list)
Thanks man, helps me with my music practice
I love the mighty oaks ..they do everything and feel nothing
She's beautiful..she's got viking hair..i'm in love
Flo might put your comment in her lyrics someday. Cool, isn't it ? ;] Thanks, btw.
Guitarist is absolutely wild. Unique tone and vivid textures.
Check out Zoot Horn Rollo on Cleat Spot by Beefheart
Check out sonic youth haha
Dry Cleaning is exactly that sound that i want do discover when im looking for new music
that guitarist is cool as hell
This band has really captured my imagination. Flo’s musings on life coupled with the fantastic sonic landscapes compliment each other perfectly. ❤️
ok i'm obsessed with this band now
Dare i say 'quintessential rebellious englishness' along with the Kinks, The Jam and Blur?
These, Drahla, Black Country, New Road, black midi, Horsey and so many more are setting the UK music scene on fire right now. So good.
Spot on!

True..
You forgot the Sleaford Mods, but yes
Watch this every few months for that outro jam alone
She reminds me of the voice that I hear in my head when thinking.
Scratchcard Lanyard, one of the best tracks of the recent years.
she holds herself during performance like shes blind, and its so haunting, like there's no senses other than being present in the numbing feel of the songs (in the best way)
as someone who has autism, the way she performs and her lyrics to me it seems like she has autism. it seemed like she was stimming during this a lot. i love her so much ugh
The ghost of Mark E. Smith nods approvingly
yep - he would like Flo
he would try to marry singer, force her into the fall backup vocal spot, get divorced, kick her out, per procedure
Does sound like mid 90s Fall
My thoughts exactly.
@@johnnymorris8294 Mark E Smith never liked anyone - even people he should like lol
This is one of the best live performances I've ever seen on KEXP. Such an amazing band.
The best UK guitar band I've heard in a long, long time.
Check Idles... Far better IMHO
@@jessie778899 close but no cigar
@@jessie778899 Nah 😁
Can people stop asking her to sing, I love the contrast between her thoughtful vocals and the rest, its something different but each to their own I guess
Great voice! She's not a singer or musician at all. But her voice definetely has potential. This band just needs a good producer.
@@pilotaudio5411 She has more tradionally melodic moments on Viking Hair and a couple of others, but even if she didn't, I wouldn't say she's not a musician. She's not just talking, there's pace and rhythm to it
Totally agree. And the band is young, how their ambitions could work in future?..
..reminds me of the concept rapping. Her voice is not so harmonic, (one has potential) her grunge voice intertwines with the rhythm and melody of the instruments. Also reminds of Jim Morrison, voicing his poems in between the song.(like in Riders in the storm)
I Definitely hear some Sonic youth influences here.
Kinda love it.
She does sing...she brings many aspects and facades to each song...love it
Music needed this band.
Loveliest people with the craziest new sound. Giving me life in 2021.
Obsessed. Best band I've heard in a long time.
Lol. That collective giggle after a solid jam at the end. Love that.
You can see the brilliance in this band.
That tasteful fuzzy guitar tone is **chefs kiss**
If tours ever happen again. Would love to see Dry Cleaning and Protomartyr tour together someday.
What a pairing that would be
Good lord...
I'd love to see Joe and Flo joking together
That's a great shout - I saw Sauna Youth with Protomartyr a few years ago. Another pairing along the same lines that worked well
yes sir need those worlds to collide
I'm kinda inspired by Cheryl Waters. Pretty much a Seattle icon. It's cool to see someone else from my generation who didn't stay locked in to the music of their high school or college years. Yep. It's true. They kept on making great music even after you got out of school
John-Peel like eh?
And She's StiLL Recovering from *(Throat~Cancer) ;-- "KUDOS & GODBLESS" To *CheryLWaters .!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! €¥£ ^
So true dude!
New music rules.
@@djpanther9621 Peelie would of likely been all over this band. I do miss him and his drone delivery still.
My biggest dream as a Brazilian: meet Cheryl Waters and thank you for being the best person in the world.
my dream as a French : saaammmeee
I'll feel OK when I'll be able to go play at KEXP with my band
@@albertovucossa3522 you know you have made it when your playing at KEXP, good luck Alberto ✌
@@jamesfannnon5275 Cheers! Until that day we'll keep playing I guess ahah
Same here. Love Cheryl!
I have waited all of lockdown for this. Viking Hair is one of the greatest songs ever written
This is perfect. I fell in love with Dry Cleaning so incredibly quickly x
Very reminiscent of Life Without Buildings, Florence and Sue have a similar lyrical delivery. These guys rock!!
I wish life without buildings was
The voice of Nico and the flow of Lou Reed.
It's like Sonic Youth covering the theme from Are You Being Served. Love it.
Apt
Trying to picture this has twisted my melon.
The interview was very wholesome towards the end, aside from the amazing and unique sound it seems they're really just friends having fun and that just makes me like them more. It seems those two things went very hand in hand for them.
Love KXP gigs . Cheryl is a big part of that equation ❤
Their visit to Buenos Aires blew me away. Check out Fin Del Mundo.
Amazing band with with a imagery and beautiful lyrics. Dry Cleaning is my favorite band
LOVE THIS
You signed them?
@@Torazino yes
@@alexandermzelski1785 just saw that after my comment on their bandcamp, thanks
4AD + Dry Cleaning is such a smart pairing.
Me too! The bass at the beginning, noice.
2 years later and this version still packs so much in. Great job guys❤️❤️❤️
Sweetest dadgum people in a band I've ever run across. So gifted; so unassuming. I'm in love.
Have to listen to them every day, I am so addicted. And have loved Cheryl Waters forever. Thank you KEXP for bringing the best music in the world into my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow I can’t stop writing comments ! This band has me so pumped! MUST BUY WHOLE DISCOGRAPHY!!!!!!!!
So good. Its rare that a band can reach back to an older style and pull it out fresher that the old bands can.
So, I just discovered this band the other day. Can't fucking stop listening to these sounds. I'm 43 and love hearing fresh music. These guys are on to something!
I am 42 and I just found them this afternoon. The clip to Scratchcard Lanyard is amazing. Fiona is such a wonderful unpretentious lyricist. So loose. So damn cool. Another genre, but check out 'Lusine' too. 'They' did a set here too from 'Sensorimotor'.
55 here, so I won this contest (-: THIS IS GREAT. Once you think "I've seen (heard) it all" - you are old. So not us!
@@ThiloBauer 58 here. Gotcha :) :) Great finding new stuff isn't it?
@@regularnimnule9715 Dammit! (-: That's right. I can't relate to people my age telling everybody that nothing compares to the Eighties. Dead man walking, errr, listening.
46 here. This is epically good! The chilled vocals works so well with the intensity of the band.
Cheryl Waters is a goddamn national treasure and must be protected at all costs. And Dry Cleaning is a phenomenal group.
Wowwww, just wanted that outro to go on forever, Dry Cleaning were one of the last bands I saw live (in Glasgow) just before lockdown, oh happy days, fab mix of the wierd and the mundane, thanks guys and KEXP for this !!!
I'm gonna watch this uuhgain! That makes about 25 times now.
this band is everything I feel about everything
I love them. They sound really fresh, pretty much doing their own thing entirely. Their first album is amazing, too!
This is a great band. Also: Cheryl Waters, what a great presenter.
That was one of the best interviews I've ever seen on this show. Great band, really excited to hear a full length.
Damn that last song. Lyrics were bonkers, bassline was fire, guitar and drums were incredible and everything you thought it was gonna end it kept going. Love it
One of the best British bands around. I adore this band ❤️
I love the deadpan poetry delivery of Florence, all the while the band is totally rock music. The juxtaposition is perfect
It’s honestly perfect.
I dont know about that.. She's talking lol
@@rupman27isback yeah I enjoy that quite a bit. Each to their own I guess.
@@thisperson6708 BTW is your thumbnail pic Supergrass? If so.. amazing!
@@rupman27isback no it’s third man records, jack whites record company.
@@thisperson6708 ohh lol awesome
They’re so good. The guitar tones are insane, exactly what does it for me.
Tight AF. Scratchcard Lanyard is a genius record.
Followed by Viking Hair...wtf ...wow
i absolutely adoreeeee her composure. she is so lovely, and the energy between the band is radiant
The bass guitar is something else on all tracks I have heard of theirs. Very distinctive
GREAT bassist. Every performer in this band is top-notch.
+100 on the bassist
thank you internet for givin me the ability to discover such a great radiostation with such great music again and again
Saw these on Monday night in Liverpool, they were terrific.
That opening riff on Magic of Meghan - incredible. This band is freakin amazing.
In love with this band
OMG I discovered this band yesterday, and I´m in love. Thank u KEXP, hugs from Brasil.
This band would definitely deserve a time machine trip back to a John Peel session!
He is kindly smiling from above, nodding his head to the groove
that is so true. The dynamic of a Peel Session would fit so well to that sound 👌
Thank you Cheryl Waters! You have brought forward so many amazing groups, especially including this one, with such grace, engagement, and respect.
KEXP, You guys always do such a great job on capturing the magic in your studio and even with the KEXP from home. It would be great if you did a video highlighting Kevin Suggs, and the crew that makes it happen! They are the true unsung heros! Maybe this already exist and i just dont know.
Cheryl, you are a wonder. Thank you for hosting this incredible segment. Thank you for everything. Long may you run. God bless your cotton socks.
Haven't had my attention caught by much music lately but this seems very novel. I am grateful for their gift.
i'm liking this more and more each time i watch it
bassist rocks - they all rock.
What a joyous discovery I've made tonight. Love it.
I love discovering new bands through KEXP. I will be seeking out more music by Dry Cleaning. Please come back to play Seattle
great discovery of this band, everything is sounding sooooo good in this performance!!
She's beautiful, she's got viking hair, And that voice! I'm in love.
These people are the best...and so is their music
I've been spending the past couple of weeks jamming around Scratchcard Lanyard, and it makes me so happy to see how lovely these guys are, more power to you Dry Cleaning xxx
I'm SO happy to have happened upon these guys! LOVE them!!
My band of the 20's
I love this lot. Looking forward to the album
I've been waiting for this! Two of my favourite EPs this year.
UK is the great bands producer. I miss London.
Love this. Makes me think of The Sprawl by Sonic Youth.
Saw these at the Arts Centre in Norwich when they supported Bodega. Fantastic!
This is the best band everrrrrrr I can't get over them, each one of them just WOW - mind-blowing
They popped out of 6 music one day and caught my attention, this is different and I really like it but I can't explain why? Cheers KEXP
What a great interviewer Cheryl Waters is. Well informed and seems genuinely excited about the bands she hosts in the studio. This is a great session, well worth a look.
She's fabulous full of enthusiasm & knowledge & asks genuine interesting questions.
That is the most rocking soulful set I've heard in many a moon! Love it!!!! 🙄✌️
This band are the 'new indie'. They are the fuckin' revolution in innovation and melodic energy.
Lol it's a total rip off of Sonic Youth, nothing new here.
Millenials, "Alexa, what is Sonic Youth?"
Remember Broken Social Scene? Before that one member Felt it all?
@@popolopopopo100 they have a British humour and dead pan delivery sonic youth didn’t have
It's alright.
Thats an amazing band right there. All of them come together very well, bt I must say, the guitarist, bassist and drurmmer have a langage of their own, and they are just living it. Special shout out to the bassist, he is kick ass, so tight and spot on bass lines, especially in last song "Conversations"
Thank you KEXP! I love them!!! Great interview as well!
Mesmerizing.
omg i listen all the time the song that kexp play all the time . Today i take the time for listen this live and its a so lovely moment . I love all the songs , i really love this band. Thanks Kexp i make all my days beautiful , you are so great !
Haven't hear an excellent new progressive British band for a long time.. up till now. This is beautiful .. I am amazed.
Just discovered this band. So unique. I love their quikiness. It just works beautifully.
Favourite band right now
Kim Gordon aproves
I'm not the only one!
Grazie a KEXP, che mi fa scoprire sempre della ottime Band che non conoscevo!
I can tell that the combined IQ of this band is probably like five hundred million! Unbelievably bright and creative! Thank you again KEXP and thank you dry cleaning
