The people who think FF7 is over-rated are the kids who were born after it came out. FF7 was revolutionary at the time and still has one of the best stories of the FF games.
I miss the days when the Playstation had loads of JRPGs to offer. Nowadays I don't see many JRPGs for PS3 or PS4. I prefer watching lists like these to the ones by IGN or watchmojo. There its all about fanwars, while here it's a "well, let's see what other people like and WHY" ^___^
Jose Cadiz I remember that I almost didn't buy a PS3 at all, because of the lack of JRPGs for the PS3 in Europe. But then my sister won a FF13-drawing contest organised by Square Enix, and received some rare & amazing prices (including the game), which made us buy the PS3 in the end. Still, I have far more JRPGs for my PS2 at home than the amount of JRPGs an average Gamestop has to offer for the PS3. I heard that it's because the gaming/console industry in Japan is shrinking.
AugustBurnsSam Really, 'good'? I've read many reviews that literally smashed the Atelier games. After watching a few walkthroughs, I too think that the characters don't seem very memorable/innovative, and the gameplay isn't anything new (for RPG fans). Even as a huge anime fan I can't get into the Atelier games, idk why. (Maybe I'm missing out some amazing games, maybe not?)
Too many random battles, and combat was slow. Wasn't a fan of the ship battles either. I stopped playing once I reached a part where you had to find some really specific thing with the airship and I just couldn't seem to locate it. Just kept getting into fights while searching so I gave it up. I did love the setting and characters. The title and cover art alone made me pick it up over Grandia II alone. Although I do regret not playing Grandia II until years later.
My favorite RPG of all time has to be Tales of Symphonia for the Gamecube, I've played a lot of RPGs but nothing makes me feel the same as i do when i'm playing that game.
Same here. That game will always hold a special place in my heart. There's just something about it that sets it apart from other games I've played to this day. It's not only my favourite RPG but my favourite game of all time.
Jennifer Cedano sorry, here I am once again haha. Well yes, a series of two games, but the second one isn't worth that much. The original is a masterpiece, beautiful in every way and with an amazing real time combat system. If you are an RPG lover, you should try that one for sure.
I love this list :) I'll put my top 10 here because I also love RPG'S 1) Tactics Ogre Let Us Cling Together 2) Chrono Cross 3) Chrono Trigger, yes I like Cross better than Trigger 4) Final Fantasy Tactics 5) Final Fantasy 9 6) Legend of Dragoon 7) Vagrant Story 8) Star Ocean First Departure 9) Final Fantasy 7 10) Fire Emblem: Awakening Honorable mentions include: Persona 4, Grandia, Suikoden 2, Breath of Fire 4, and Ni No Kuni It's a very Playstation heavy list XD
Terra Branford yours is pretty good. I keep thinking mine seems to revolve around the PS1 XD. I've never played Hyper Dimension Neptunia XD. I love all of the Star Ocean games but because I had to choose 1 I chose the first XD. My list is in order, of most to least XD
The Laughing Man There is no way any Suikoden game should be ranked under a Final fantasy game, with much deeper stories, better battle systems, and 100's of character Suikoden is many times better than any of the FF series. Well maby FF tactics can holds its own with Suikoden but that's about it.
Yuri PRIME , jrpgs are rpgs whats so hard to understand about that? its only in recent years that western rpgs started to become good enough. in fact butthurt western rpg fans were so furious about rpgs comming from japan they invented a term to segregate them. a lot of western rpgs sucks get that in to your head
Goo2Plex Games without Role Playing element are RolePlaying Games now? Mmmm! Great, you also buy cars without engines? Booze without alcohol? Refreshing drink in a Samoan Pub without a rainforest decoration to fall in love with orangutan in?
Xenogears is also my favorite RPG of all time. Played it for the first time in the late 90s as a high school sophomore and I think the reason why it clicked so much with me is that it explored concepts and storylines that are unique from all the other RPGs back then. It completely went all out in terms of storytelling; in fact, I felt like reading a really complex novel upon playing it. Such an underrated masterpiece. I want to play it again. :)
Honestly i like this list, i was hoping the usual FF7 or 8 but these list give fresh list overall. Completely agree that chrono cross and xenogear is one the best rpg out there
Oh, you thought this was a definitive, "official top 10 RPG games of all time" list? You are the one who needs fixing, if you expect more than a person's personal favorites when clicking on a top 10 video.
I like how you mention their flaws as endearing traits. It may not resonate with modern gamers but for those growing up alongside these games it makes perfect sense.
+OtakuDaiKun Absolutely. No game is perfect but it's also a matter of perception. Many of these were also before I was heavily critiquing games as a journalist.
+Spiritun you realize the j is japanese as in a Japanese rpg since when do youtubers tell people no you have to say make it a top 10 wrpg because it's fucking stupid
I really just spent the time building my character up using the Monk and Ninja job classes (after unlocking previous jobs), putting effort into unlocking Double Attack while also bringing over the high strength while using fists. I can't tell you exactly just because it's been a while, but I remember doing it in that fashion.
A'ight I'll try that. One thing that sucks is that I can't hurt him and I can't go back and train because the game is saved at a part where I can only go forward. Sooo I have to start over. :(
Also for a guy whos clearly hung up on jrpgs of years gone by, i cant believe you dont even give an honorable mention to "legends of legiai" every single jrpg fan that owned/owns a playstation NEEDS to check that title out, guarantee you 200 hours later the end is nowhere in sight HARD ASS GAME!! But the really good kind of hard.
Loved that game. I reached a point if no return on the last boss though. Started a new file where I was determined to power level every chance I got and grind for the best gear. Sadly, never went back to finish it. Still one of the best stories in my opinion. Just enough characters and plot elements to keep you fully engaged and not be confusing. Had a friend in high school who played it almost non-stop over a weekend and somehow beat it. Hats off to him
You seem like you would like the suikoden series ~ Especially Suikoden 2. It's on PSN so, if you can play it, I would. It's an older game, but it has by far one of the best storylines as well as 108 different characters that you can add to your team and build your headquarters with, each with their own story and characteristics. It's amazing!
1) I seen where FF7 was placed, no longer took this list seriously. 2) The further the video went on, it became aware you played RPGs DURING the RPG golden age. Gaining respect. 3) I seen no Suikoden 2, you're losing me again. 4) Last but not least, I seen the game you placed as #1. All is fucking forgiven. Xenogears, the absolute greatest JRPG of ALL-TIME.
RPG Site You're welcome. And for sure, I just beat Xenogears again around a month ago. I couldn't believe how much depth it had, and how much I couldn't understand when it was released.
Sheldon Cooper Theres some new videos up showing a project using 3d images of xenogears settings. Also, voice dubbing is being used. Also look up xenogears in UKWXP. Its a battling game.
Jennifer Cedano A project using 3d images? What do you mean? I checked UKWXP, that was awesome! I'd imagine that's just how the battling arena would look if Xenogears were to be re-done.
TheRezro You do realize that the cliche of a "Silent Protagonist" came from RPGs, right? Most early games didn't let your main character talk, letting you pretend to fill the role of the hero. Chrono Trigger is an example.
RPG Site And it is biggest bullshit of all time, in with many scriptwriters seriously believe. It could only work for people who are piece of wood, because how I can fill like character when is no such? It's not RPG. But yes, many early cRPG's were hollow and use that excuse to not do RPG (fable decisions).. only tactic battles.
TheRezro Well considering the fact that in its defention "Role playing" would suggest the you were playing a role something i could not see happening if your player is talking for you and thus play the role himself. Though no game does that specific part of the genre much better then the others. In truth i wont be fully satisfied with RPG dialouge till i start seeing some voice recognition in games so that you can actually talk to npcs and the NPCs could actually say your name (personal thing i find annoying about RPGs)
lexiis Jomar Weakness of cRPG is that what you say. You can't directly speak as you character, just choice from several line of dialog.. still playing mute wood is not role playing. In Gothic for example you have full-fledged speaking character, and still making a choice for him make you care of his future.
Great list! There are two titles on here that I haven't played myself, but I love all the other games that you mentioned. I'd have a tough time coming up with my own list of top RPG's, but I can agree that all the ones you mentioned deserve recognition. ;)
A like your list, it has both very convincing arguments and a personal touch. RPGs are all about your experience with the story and characters. It's the first time I see Chrono Cross in a list of best RPGs of all time, and you know what? I loved it, one of the few games that made me cry and my favorite game of all time! Thank you dude, awesome video!
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. A well put together list. Bothers me when someone tries to say a jrpg belongs in it's own type of gaming. Point is a jrpg is an rpg. In the 90's, possibly early 2000's, and prior, the phrase jrpg wasn't used. If Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy VII were mentioned, people quickly thought rpg. Man, back in that time period most rpg's not from Japan were mediocre.
If you haven’t played the Grandia series that’s a must play, and from the looks of the games you love in this video it should be right up there among some of your favorites...
I loved the first game. Second game not so much. Third game was heading towards being the best in the series.. until the final chapter on Michtam. Wow, talk about rushed. Every antagonist from the first game on was dealt with swiftly, in one chapter, one after another.
the list is understandable and I've played most of them. Here is a list of my favorite games of all time *not just roleplaying* 1. Final Fantasy Tactics 2. Zelda 2 Links Awakening 3. Chrono Trigger 4. Skyrim 5. Castlevania Symphony of the Night 6. FF7 7. Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen 8. Shadowgate 9. Swords and Serpeants 10. ESO
Jennifer Cedano i wouldnt know about a top 10 but i hoped to see Wizardry or Ultima series,Divine Divinity,Eye of the Beholder,Bladur's Gate,Nox or even the old Diablos or the new Dragon Age or Witcher series.Gosh,i just realized i'm old
My list: 7-Skyrim (mostly because of mods) 6-Fire Emblem: Awakening 5-Nancy Drew Final Scene 4-Super Mario RPG 3-Castlevania: Symphony of the Night 2-Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire 1-Tales of Symphonia
I've played all of these except for one. I don't agree that Xeno Gears must be rated at 9 almost perfect 10. Star Ocean The Second Story, Breath Of Fire 3 and 4, Grandia, Guardians Crusade, Legend Of Legaia, Valkyrie Profile, Legend Of Dragoon, Dragon Quest and Wild Arms and 2nd Ignition deserves that score.
I love you for putting Chrono Cross in there~ I rarely find someone who loves/likes this game as much as I do (they always just talk about Chrono Trigger) you said everything about it that is to mention, the details and of course the soundtrack
I love the Monster Hunter series; it was one of the first games that i played , beat, and enjoyed on my PSP. I will always love the PS2 title, Drakengard and Drakengard 2, for the very deep plot and unique characters that i have not seen in any other darkers RPG's. The Tales Of series is AMAZING, and one of the only Wii titles that really hit home base was The Last Story, a game that brought the best of its characters, setting, music, and understanding as to how the characters feel, and how the world revolves and changes around them. I have played hundreds of games in my life, and EVERY one of them had a different story to tell, ones that will always stay with me. My only regret for my early years of playing video games is that i could hardly ever get any when i was younger, but from that, I have been able to choose video games that are diamonds in the rough, and well worth the time. Games that gave that sense of wonder and gave you that tantalizing sensation of "What's gonna happen next?" are the ones that are dying out, but are slowly coming back. A video game is a movie and a book that you can TRULY experience, and surely remember for year to come.
Personally, I had my fun with Morrowind and Oblivion, but they didn't really stick with me as with some of my friends. I did play them for dozens of hours, though.
Because you have absolute freedom to do whatever you want, whenever you want, wherever you want, how ever you want. That's something about the Elder Scrolls that I haven't found in any other RPG series.
I think it's a fascinating concept. I just feel that for the most part, at least to me, Elder Scrolls doesn't have a good combat system and has a rather weak narrative overall. I'm not one for open world games, but The Witcher 3 may change that.
I love Xenogears but lets be honest the first disc may be the greatest RPG ever. The second disc is and I will be gentle incomplete and confusing. Its still definitely in my top 5. In no order FFVII, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Xenogears, Panzer Dragoon Saga & Secret of Mana.
I stumbled on to FF7 by accident but I never regretted playing it. It's the sole reason why I like the genre of rpg's in the first place, so long live good rpg's past and present :D!!!!
I can't believe it you actually talked about terranigma... It's one of my favorite games of all time and I was wondering... I've been working on a review for this game covering all the ins and outs for about a year now. It would be nice to have you on board knowing your knowledge of the game. I already got two other you tubers to help me so it would be awesome if you could join too.
I really like your list. Many great games. I am curious about these games Grandia,Suikoden 2, Skies of Arcadia. Have you played them, are they in your honorable mentions?
I loved Grandia to death, and it was a close contender for the Top 10. I unfortunately lost my save at the last boss and have yet to go back. Enjoyed Grandia II and III, though. I have yet to play Suikoden at all, and Skies of Arcadia as well. Need to get to those soon, though!
RPG Site I like grandia series too. Based on your list I think you would like those titles too. Skies of Arcadia is old but unique. It is not really necessary to play Suikoden 1 to play 2. But 2 has just improved on everything about 1. Even great soundtrack and superb storyline. I don't think you'll regret it. When you play them, let me know your opinion
Awesome list! This pretty much touches my top rpg games as well except for one that I believe deserves to be up here and that is Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars. Im just glad I got exposed to Chrono Cross and NES because I still play all three everywhere on my emulators on pc, heck even on the PS Vita (:
It seems like you went with the older RPGs. Is that because of the impact they had on you growing up? Or is it more the quality of more recent RPGs isn't as good?
very interesting choice especially some games i never heard of before, so i m curious are they on ps1 or just on the ness or on pc? but anyway for the game i know it s an exellent choice and you show it ( compare to some other that just show the cover and don t explain nothing,
Finally...someone who has Xenogears as their #1 pick. For all of you who haven't played this game; you seriously need to play it once in your life. All others just can't match it's storyline, music, and overall gameplay. I've played a lot of RPGs and none come close
I reviewed Tales of Legendia and beat Graces f. Only played some of the others. I beat Persona 4 and played some of the others. I enjoyed them, but not as much as these.
ah, and with the tales of games, I would suggest you give Xillia/ Xillia 2 on the PS3, Vesperia on the 360 , or Abyss on the 3DS a try they are some of the better games in the series , both Legeinda and Graces F are good games they are far from the best in the series . and before I get jumped by other tales of fans in the comment section I did not put TOS because everyone and their mother would have already recommended it. also with those games that is of course if you have the time to give them a try
I was somewhat surprised that Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2: Explorers of Time & Darkness wasn't on the list, especially how you stressed your opinions of the story, music, and characters of an RPG at the beginning of the video. It's your opinion, I suppose, but I think it definitely deserved a spot on the list. They have incredible characters who go through huge development throughout the game, an amazing story that could put games like Kingdom Hearts to shame, and a breathtaking soundtrack that fits the scenarios perfectly. The graphics are also very good for a 16-bit game, and with the random dungeon generator and unique battle system, there's no chance of having the same adventure twice. If you didn't put these games on the list because you don't like them, fine. But, if you have never played them or heard of them before, I would seriously recommend them.
I played and loved Shining Force 2, and Diablo 2 was close to making the list as well. Honestly, making this a Top 20 wouldn't have the same impact, in my opinion. For software, nothing special - just either used an HD PVR with Hauppauge Capture or grabbed footage from the internet.
Watching this video and seeing the games that I loved playing as a child gave me goosebumps. I really missed that feeling of excitement and even having sleepless nights because of being engrossed over these games...
Personally for me, I'm gonna have to add Legend of Legaia to near the top of this list... Huge towers, tons of cityscapes like Jazz Clubs or Cage Matches.. Just the gameplay, everything in it being like Virtua Fighter combat...It really got to me in a way I didn't get in the final fantasies. So yeah, Legend of Legaia= Cult favorite 8D
Wow, this video really touched me! I generally love old rpg games more than the most recent ones, and this top ten is composed of some brilliant titles I've never heared talking about! Now I've got a clue of some great games which I could spend some money on.. Just a question: Why didn't you put Chrono Trigger? Didn't you like it, or didn't you play it at all? :)
I love Chrono Trigger to death. I just happen to like these ones slightly more is all. It was in my Top 15 before I decided to narrow to a Top 10 list.
My favorite is Sailor Moon Another Story or whatever it's called, I wish it were released in America but it wasn't so I had to play it on an emulator (with an English patch).
The people who think FF7 is over-rated are the kids who were born after it came out. FF7 was revolutionary at the time and still has one of the best stories of the FF games.
FF6??FF4??Tales of phantasia??? chrono trigger??
No u
um he says down in the comments its his opinion lol
Ngl I was alittle chrono triggered that those classic masterpieces are not here
I miss the days when the Playstation had loads of JRPGs to offer. Nowadays I don't see many JRPGs for PS3 or PS4.
I prefer watching lists like these to the ones by IGN or watchmojo. There its all about fanwars, while here it's a "well, let's see what other people like and WHY" ^___^
Appreciate the understanding
+NoctLightCloud real talk!
Jose Cadiz I remember that I almost didn't buy a PS3 at all, because of the lack of JRPGs for the PS3 in Europe. +NoctLightCloud I've heard good things about the Atelier series for PS3. I know the soundtrack is fantastic, but i haven't actually played the game..

1. chrono trigger
2. xenogears
3. final fantasy 6
4. final fantasy 7
5. secret of mana
Xenogears is one of my favorite games of all time. A flawed masterpiece, but a masterpiece nonetheless! Great pick.
Suikoden II is missing!!
Anyone here a fan of Skies of Arcadia? That game was amazing.
YESSSS!
Although I do regret not playing Grandia II until years later.
shut up noob
beat that game more than 10 times. I hope a gaming company like Square Enix can remake it I would love that
Joe Stevens it's one of my absolute favorite RPG's it is on equal footing to me as the first RPG game I ever played Grandia 2 for the dreamcast
My favorite RPG of all time has to be Tales of Symphonia for the Gamecube, I've played a lot of RPGs but nothing makes me feel the same as i do when i'm playing that game.
What a masterpiece...
Same here. That game will always hold a special place in my heart. There's just something about it that sets it apart from other games I've played to this day. It's not only my favourite RPG but my favourite game of all time.
AyakaShimizu Tales of Sypmhonia is a series right?
Jennifer Cedano sorry, here I am once again haha. Well yes, a series of two games, but the second one isn't worth that much. The original is a masterpiece, beautiful in every way and with an amazing real time combat system. If you are an RPG lover, you should try that one for sure.
Only one to ever top it, in my heart at least, is Tales of the Abyss. Still, it's like giving Symphonia 5/5 and Abyss 6/5 in my case.
FF6. The greatest of all time. Still undefeated as the Golden Masterpiece of RPGs.
Chu Kim hell yeah!
+Chu Kim yeah i agree
I see you've never played earthbound
+Chu Kim For RPGs? No. Deus Ex or Planescape holds that title. For JRPGs? Yeah, its probably the best one.
Old comment i know. But i prefer suikoden 2, mother 3 and especially persona 4
If FF7 is in the top 10, then I think GRANDIA should be included, because they are both the best RPG in 1997.
1. Tales of vesperia
2 Suikoden 2
3. Super Mario RPG
4. Crono Cross
5. Tales of Graces
6.Fire emblem.
7. Star Ocean
8. Pokemon series
9. FF9
10. FF7
Your reflections on FFVII are spot on. Great list :)
Thank you!
Xenogears is the best game for me
I love this list :)
I'll put my top 10 here because I also love RPG'S
1) Tactics Ogre Let Us Cling Together
2) Chrono Cross
3) Chrono Trigger, yes I like Cross better than Trigger
4) Final Fantasy Tactics
5) Final Fantasy 9
6) Legend of Dragoon
7) Vagrant Story
8) Star Ocean First Departure
9) Final Fantasy 7
10) Fire Emblem: Awakening
Honorable mentions include: Persona 4, Grandia, Suikoden 2, Breath of Fire 4, and Ni No Kuni
It's a very Playstation heavy list XD
Terra Branford yours is pretty good. I keep thinking mine seems to revolve around the PS1 XD. I've never played Hyper Dimension Neptunia XD. I love all of the Star Ocean games but because I had to choose 1 I chose the first XD. My list is in order, of most to least XD
Terra Branford same here and there are only 10 slots XD
The Laughing Man Awakening is in my opinion one of the most boring fe out there. Route all enemy's every mission and grind dlc's?
The Laughing Man There is no way any Suikoden game should be ranked under a Final fantasy game, with much deeper stories, better battle systems, and 100's of character Suikoden is many times better than any of the FF series. Well maby FF tactics can holds its own with Suikoden but that's about it.
P0kéF4N.BW2 Pokemon is nothing but grinding and collecting XD Jerid Glasspoole that's your opinion I just listed *my* top 10
Correction folks who came here for RPG list, it's JRPG list of all time, and that jazz.
JRPGs are RPGs.
RPG Site Oh boy, here we go again...
Yuri PRIME JRPGs are RPGS thats just about it ok whether you like or you like deal with it
Enjoyed your thoughts on these classics Zack, thanks!
Thanks!
imagine an actual prequel to xenogears
Xenogears is also my favorite RPG of all time. Played it for the first time in the late 90s as a high school sophomore and I think the reason why it clicked so much with me is that it explored concepts and storylines that are unique from all the other RPGs back then. It completely went all out in terms of storytelling; in fact, I felt like reading a really complex novel upon playing it. Such an underrated masterpiece. I want to play it again. :)
Ahh no Chrono Trigger?
Definitely played a ton of it. Just preferred CC.
RPG Site me too
This list is amazing, i agreed with your choices the whole time while watching this video. You truly know of videogame gems :)
Thank you very much!
Honestly i like this list, i was hoping the usual FF7 or 8 but these list give fresh list overall. Completely agree that chrono cross and xenogear is one the best rpg out there
I would have put ff7 much higher in the list but ahhhh xenogears... what a great game!
title: top 10 jrpg that are atleast 3 generations old.
**fixd
Oh, you thought this was a definitive, "official top 10 RPG games of all time" list? You are the one who needs fixing, if you expect more than a person's personal favorites when clicking on a top 10 video.
No tales of symphonia ? :/
Tales of Symphonia? meh!
no Grandia? it has one of the best Storys imo
+alexander Birkle It's really good but I didn't have as much reverence for those games over these.
Interesting list! I appreciate some of the underrated titles you mentioned, like Chrono Cross!!
got number 1 soo right. ive played every xeno game to the end and gears is still the best ever
Xenogears, for one, is a game that would be interesting to see remade, but would definitely lose some of it's retro charm in the process.
+OtakuDaiKun That's why I prefer remasters over remakes. Hah
This are obviously only JRPGS an RPG list is suppose to have both west and eastern games.
kikyouwuv It's SUPPOSE to? Is this some sort of cardinal rule that I'm not aware of?
***** If your favorite RPGs happen to be only JRPGs then so be it. Quit acting like an entitled jackass.
***** why don't you go ahead and upload your own video describing the top ten best role-playing games then? Lol
***** yeah man actually you can. You make a good point, we can't have yin without yang (praise and criticism).
+Spiritun you realize the j is japanese as in a Japanese rpg
since when do youtubers tell people no you have to say make it a top 10 wrpg because it's fucking stupid
How do you beat the guy for Final Fantasy Tactics. (At 6:05) I honestly gave up on him which sucks cause I wanna know the story. Help!!!
Why everyone hating on ff7 it is simply one of the greatest games ever.
black snake T'as pas du jouer à grand chose comme RPG !!!!????
+black snake I can name a few JRPGS that are better.... FFIX, XenoBlade, etc
nice list man . I'm just trying to keep up with current gen rpgs . now I feel like I'm missing out on all retro rpgs
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance is my favorite RPG of all time.
Sidar Erdem Cool.
Sidar Erdem Did Live a Live surpass Chrono Trigger?
Sidar Erdem Is Live a Live a PC or mobile phone game?
Sidar Erdem I'll look it up.
Great video! I especially liked your review of Chrono Cross, one of my faves as well!
+Lazer Crotch Thanks!
I loved that game. and the sequel as well on the ps2. legaia 2 duel saga.
Please rename it Top 10 JRPGs of All Time
Wow, I haven't heard of most of these games and I thought I knew RPGs. Thanks for the recommendations! I'll definitely check them out!
Xenogears, the absolute greatest JRPG of ALL-TIME.
lol, thanks a lot. I do replay a lot of these games so it's not just based on nostalgia. And yes, Xenogears is the greatest. =]
There is a channel there. I forgot the name; with more vids
chrono Cross sound track... ty I fell in love with this during high school. and it still follows me to this day
Dude. Oblivion, Skyrim, Morrowind, Daggerfall. Why are none of those here ;-;
Yeah, I mentioned before several times why. Not a fan of the priorities of those games.
No lunar? if memory serves me right I've played part two of it it was freaking awesome but I never got the chance to play part 1.
Good call on Xenogears. Definitely one of my top 3 too.
Great list! There are two titles on here that I haven't played myself, but I love all the other games that you mentioned. I'd have a tough time coming up with my own list of top RPG's, but I can agree that all the ones you mentioned deserve recognition. ;)
Thanks!
My favorite RPG is Gothic 2
Good choice. The early Gothic games were really good.
Why are there no western RPGs on your list? are you racist
+Luis Cruz (BlaDeath) Thank you for watching it!
Great list. Xenogears is the definition of a flawed masterpiece
Man, back in that time period most rpg's not from Japan were mediocre.
no golden sun?
If you haven’t played the Grandia series that’s a must play, and from the looks of the games you love in this video it should be right up there among some of your favorites...
xenogears just didn't do it for me. I appreciate it for what it is, but the last 3rd or so just started to drag on.
I'd actually be interested in more videos like this. Maybe get all the writers to give their personal top 10 rpg list
Chrono Trigger? No? Really? Come on dude
Oh, AND you put Tactics on the list as the best FF installment. You are amazing. FFT is my second favorite game/RPG.
no one places xenosaga anywhere im so hurt
I loved the first game. Second game not so much. Third game was heading towards being the best in the series.. until the final chapter on Michtam. Wow, talk about rushed. Every antagonist from the first game on was dealt with swiftly, in one chapter, one after another.
Theyre talking about Xenosaga HD remake if enough people show interest.
Yeah I did the thing..send request to the guy xD
the list is understandable and I've played most of them. Here is a list of my favorite games of all time *not just roleplaying*
1. Final Fantasy Tactics
2. Zelda 2 Links Awakening
3. Chrono Trigger
4. Skyrim
5. Castlevania Symphony of the Night
6. FF7
7. Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen
8. Shadowgate
9. Swords and Serpeants
10. ESO
more like top 10 JRPGS
WHat would your top ten be?
Jennifer Cedano i wouldnt know about a top 10 but i hoped to see Wizardry or Ultima series,Divine Divinity,Eye of the Beholder,Bladur's Gate,Nox or even the old Diablos or the new Dragon Age or Witcher series.Gosh,i just realized i'm old
JRPGs are RPGs....
Yes but so are ARPG and MMORPGS,but if you are going to make a top about "top 10 of all time" you better be darn specific
My favorite RPGs just happen to be JRPGs. That's about the length of it.
My list:
7-Skyrim (mostly because of mods)
6-Fire Emblem: Awakening
5-Nancy Drew Final Scene
4-Super Mario RPG
3-Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
2-Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire
1-Tales of Symphonia
i like the video for one reason that me and u agree that XENOGEARS on the top !!
I DON'T AGREE!
I actually played Xeno from start to end like 3 times, i tried but didn't liked it for many reasons.
Richard Knights
Xeno Gears shouldn't be on top!
You are not alone Cute Filipino
Gotta agree on FFT: War of The Lions. One of my Favorite Games. The plot is so amazing I got lost in it for hours at a time. Ahhh fond memories..
suikoden II ....
I love you for putting Chrono Cross in there~ I rarely find someone who loves/likes this game as much as I do (they always just talk about Chrono Trigger) you said everything about it that is to mention, the details and of course the soundtrack
I'm a str8 h8ter... Cuz if a suikoden game isn't on a top ten , I can't like the list ....
robert diefendorf I love the Suikoden series, part 4 isn't as good as the others to me but 2 & 3 are amazing, I haven't played Suikoden Tactics yet.
J Wright id say suikoden 5 was better than the older ones
Really, no Elder Scrolls?!
what is so great about elder srolls?
Personally, I had my fun with Morrowind and Oblivion, but they didn't really stick with me as with some of my friends. I did play them for dozens of hours, though.
RPG Site Morrowind!!!!
Really enjoyed your list, thanks for sharing.
Chrono Cross better than FF7???? Game Cred LOST
JohnJohnerson So far dude, Chrono Cross should be 2nd.
BYE GAME CRED!
Guys, is there anyone who still does not understand that everyone has different preferences in video games, especially for the JRPG
wow, i'm pleasantly surprised! Lufia II and Terranigma are two of my most beloved games, and they never receive the praise they deserve. Kudos to you.
Thank you. Terranigma is legitimately a great time.
Correction: 5:20 ... you accidentally said Final Fantasy Tactics instead of Final Fantasy VI.
you guys realize this is just his opinion, right? he did this list from his own expierence and nostalgia.
Chrono Cross? I like you already.
RPG Site
I like grandia series too.
RPG Site Skies of Arcadia and Suikoden both have similar Home bases /Headquarters.
Lufia II and Terranigma, good to see they get acknowledgement. They are my personal favs for the SNES on jRPG and action RPG.
Look up the classics on PSN
Chrono Cross on the thumbnail, I click
may I ask if you have ever played bandia nomco's tales of series? . or ATLUS persona?
But, if you have never played them or heard of them before, I would seriously recommend them.
what is the song at 11:20?
I was hoping for shining force to possibly be on here. I liked the video and i now need to check a few of these out.
You rarely see Lufia 2 get the recognition it deserves. Good list!
+Olivier Duchesne Thanks!
Great list! A lot of titles I haven't had a chance to play yet. :)
No Shining Force and Diablo?
I think you needed a top 20, as yourself said.
Can you tell me what software you use to record the images from the games?
I played and loved Shining Force 2, and Diablo 2 was close to making the list as well. Honestly, making this a Top 20 wouldn't have the same impact, in my opinion.
For software, nothing special - just either used an HD PVR with Hauppauge Capture or grabbed footage from the internet.
I really really loved Lost Odyssey on Xbox 360 I thought it was an amazing RPG!!! Did you play that one?
+Lemongrab Only about 10 hours. I definitely want to play it again.
Watching this video and seeing the games that I loved playing as a child gave me goosebumps. I really missed that feeling of excitement and even having sleepless nights because of being engrossed over these games...
Totally there with you.
So yeah, Legend of Legaia= Cult favorite 8D
dude your list is amazing. and considering i have played 7 of your top 10 i will definitely try and find the other 3.
The Legend of Dragoon is the best RPG of all time.
+Chriib agreed. a list of "best rpgs" without LoD is bullshit.
I played that. It's pretty darn good, more than you'd expect from a licensed game.
RPG Site Yeah. Its a lot like Final Fantasy 6 though XD
Terra Branford I played FF6 on my old computer but it stopped working so yeah...
Terra Branford Oh, I wish I had a PS1...
Terra Branford Not very far...
awesome list of games, Final Fantasy 7 would be my fav of these (best of series imo) did you ever play Star Ocean 2? I thought that was pretty wicked
Definitely enjoyed Star Ocean 2. Didn't beat it, though, so I'll have to go back.
yeah it took awhile to beat haha think that's why i liked it tho i love long games with a good story. It also had some awesome characters
1. Earthbound trilogy
2. The Elder Scrolls
3. Fire Emblem series
4. Phantasy Star quartet
5. The Witcher games
Where is Final Fantasy 9 ...
I totally agree. I was liking playing a movie, playing a movie, playing a game. Great stuff. My number 1 as well.
