OMG! That gun mouse was a terrible product that I just had to have! I remember buying mine at a Fry's Electronics in Sacramento CA. And wouldn't you know, Far Cry was the first thing I played with it. Wow, what a trip down memory lane. We basically had the exact same experience and feelings about it too. OMG I'm just taken back.
I'm amazed that nobody is talking about the extremely classic LGR couch you did the intro sitting on. I remember that from years ago, and what a wonderful sight after all this time!
Years ago I commented on an LGR video that I never expected to hear Clint say "that's one clean ball bay." Today I get to add the phrases "different ball skins" and "don't see too many brown balls, usually they're gray or black, white even" to the collection. Thanks for the mental images. Oh and the laughs 😂 Oh and I think Ashen's big brown couch and Clint's classic "if woodgrain was a fabric" recliner should battle to the death. Or star in a buddy cop flick together.
Man, that Yahoo mouse had so much potential. If you could have bound the "8D" joystick thingamabob to WASD or the arrow keys you could have a pretty usable one handed FPS setup. Not to mention anything else you could use it for, video editing, writing, drawing, etc... There's plenty of use cases for weird, programmable interfaces.
Using your index finder to move the joystick for an extended period of time seems like a recipe for hand pain and discomfort, but that does seem like an interesting use case. DOOM may work well for it, though a normal joystick could also work.
I was thinking that exact same thing, maybe moving to the thumb spot would make a better spot for long term use but it could be cool to bring something like that back in some shape.
I actually have the pistol mouse and it is on a shelf about 3 feet from me :) I got mine back when they were released. Actually got about a dozen from the manufacturer as giveaways / prizes for our LAN party group we used to have back then. Snagged one for myself from the giveaway pile as it was so different for a mouse ;)
I wanna try that mouse pistol myself. Certainly better than the "demon gun" you covere d before. I can also see it as a way to avoid the pain of sliding your underside wrist over the table. I agree that the right click mouse should be at the mag release button instead. Having ring finger trigger is awful with anything.
I seem to remember early ergonomic mice being similar to the pistol one before they settled on the modern ones that give you an angled hand positions instead of fully vertical, the sensor put way forward on the device rather than cantered is also interesting in that it allows moving left/right by twisting it. As goofy as it is, there seems to be real merit to the idea, I think if it was designed like a joystick handle instead it would be functionally the same but considerably more comfortable.
I tried one of them and wished so badly they come in larger sizes. 3D printable DIY mouse platform where the switches and scroll wheel can be put to whatever wild shape is should be already a possible thing, but its not yet :(

Oh man, I used to own one of those gun mice. I remember thinking it was the coolest thing when I first got it, and the metal trigger was neat. Probably only used it once or twice in actuality because it was really hard to control.
Pistol mice are awesome, I made my own custom one out of a modern Logitech gaming mouse and even played something as fast paced as Overwatch with it. The pistol shaped design is entirely usable and actually more ergonomic than regular flat mouse designs. Very fun to use, I highly recommend weird mouse enthusiasts to try one out.
Hey, you still have the chair! Awesome! You sure find the weirdest mice. The baseball one looks so off-putting and I must say, seeing you flap that skin on it was a bit painful to watch. Lol. I hope you still have more odd mice and random oddware to show us, it's really interesting.
Ah, friday! Just got home from work, put forth some candy and laid myself in the sofa while listening to Clints fantasticly chill videos of an absolete world.
Myself and my son felt like oddballs, because we were the only people that we knew that had these pistol mice, and we went to lan parties, they use a different part of your wrist and it’s more comfortable to play. I wish they would still have made this and improved it. Like Clint said the scroll wheel is sensitive and the alt click button is oddly placed. I would like to see a more modern version of this with laser or something, always wanted to hear Clints opinion on this. And like Clint said it would be good for a casual game, but not for one on one or Deathmatch, it’s not super precise because it’s using the up-and-down motion of your wrist instead of the side to side, it does take some getting used to, but we’ve always found it interesting. They were like $70 brand new back in 04/05.

Thankyou so much for uploading the software for the yahoo mouse! Ive had the mouse since 2001ish but i didnt have the software anymore. My ibm model 95 will be forever in your gratitude 👌
Thinking about it the gun mouse is a pretty novel way to get a mouse with a vertical orientation. From what little I understand of RSIs a vertical mouse is supposed to be better. I think if nothing else you can take some good design queues from it and make a better vertical mouse.
Oh man, I used to own one of those gun mice. I remember thinking it was the coolest thing when I first got it, and the metal trigger was neat. Probably only used it once or twice in actuality because it was really hard to control.
2:54 You know, around that time, USB was infamous for being a serial killer.
4:55 The tone in your voice here is perfect
I rather like that you always use Unreal Tournament to test things, it's literally one of the best shooters ever and it's fantastic for testing things
Every day is a good day when there's an LGR weird mice video
Clint! I love your videos. I've been watching (and subbed) since your Sims 3 review videos, which I still watch. Keep making good content!
All those mouse balls must have taken a lot of hard boiled eggs to make, I suppose the whites just get wasted?
Ball skins made me chuckle 😂 nice odd mouse oddware thing, sir
that Cool Crab mousepad is so freaking neat, i want one
right?? the second I saw it i knew i needed one. and right while i need to buy stuff for my new desk job lmao
LMAO! That mouse ball has to have gone bad if it's turned brown.
Great video!
Another good video.
Love to see more weird mice...maybe some weird keyboards too.
This video is amazing to watch.
That gun mouse seems like the cure for my carpal tunnel
Another great vid, Clint!!! Hopefully thriftshop vids will be coming back soon!!!
the pistol mouse is made for when you join the computer gang.
