We've noticed more boating mishaps in the Caribbean and Florida than anywhere else in the world we've been. And we've sailed to a few places.... Do you think it's because there's just more boats around so the numbers work that way? Or maybe because many sailors choose to start their voyage here and are figuring out the steep learning curve? Maybe a bit of both? If you have any thoughts let us know. Also, our latest video was just released so if you're a Patron check it out at patreon.com/svdelos. Fair winds and thanks for the support! Brian, Kazza, and Baby Nugs
more boats will always lead to more accidents. but i thinks it's a bit of both. the good thing is, with more boats around, there's always someone around to help you if you get in trouble! amazing job from you guys, great showcase of the amazing sailing community
THE UNDERWATER WORLD OF JACQUES COUSTEAU - Yes Brian, that is who your great commentary reminds me of! As an old guy (62), I remember watching Jacques Cousteau as a kid. The adventures on Mr. Cousteau's TV show sparked a longing to travel and go places for a generation of people. Thanks for picking up his torch my friend.
Brian is an awsome and careing dude. One can tell for all the crew that has been on board Delos. I don't think a single one has anything bad to say. I dont know, but I think. 😁
He’s Pretty Amazing !!! He Saved thier Boat & Alot of People From Having a Really Bad Day. Flight Path Obstruction for the Seaplanes etc. He’s Putting alot of Cash in the “ Good Carma Vessell “ it Will come back to him 10 Fold I’ve Allways Found. I Learned a New Trick in this video. Thanks for that Brian ! Cool trick. Wishing You Sun , Calm Seas for a While & the Wind at Your Back & Let’s not forget Lots & Lots of Dolphins 🐬!
@@OcRefrig How about sharing Brians's new tip that you noticed. Anything Brian knows is worth learning. Brian is even working on a new Sailing/Voyaging Academy that I plan to keep an eye on.
One of the things I like most seeing on this channel, is how the sailing community jumps in without batting eye to help when another boat is in distress. You see everyone put their best selves forward with genuine gusto, just like we were many years ago among families in a neighborhood or a village. Not at all of course that we need to revert progress, but perhaps we should be looking at specifically what have been the agents that have caused us to loose this beautiful and natural human social collective quality over the years. A perfect metaphor is how Brian loves to keep his ship up to date with the latest tech stuff, and yet, community, bonding and love among friends and family, a personal appreciation of history and other realities in the world, the dedicated focus on their child, real empathy and solidarity, ...never ever compromised. [ I posted this write on facebook, along with a screen shot of that awesome picture of Sierra standing stern anchor watch towards the horizon. ... An absolutely priceless picture!! Thank you so much for all you share ]
Hear hear! I've followed Delos from the year Dot and their behavior in this vid didn't surprise me at all but warmed my heart, as they always do. I've learned a great deal from Brian and his crew over the years. Whether your reasons for watching are for the amazing visual offerings, the truly heartwarming characters, the dream of being on the ocean too or perhaps the technical side of sailing; it's all covered. Well done Delos for another wonderful vid!!
Yes, small communities bring out the best in people. We as a society need to move away from the megacity models like New York, Chicago, Houston, and LA and into small community models to combat crime, neglect, and poverty.
It is like winter in the north. Today its them in trouble tomorrow it could be you so if somebody is stuck or in trouble you help because someday sooner or later you will need help too and the only people in any position to do it are the people right there so you do what you got to do.
There is nothing - absolutely nothing - that compares to the can-do ethos of the cruising community. There is always a helping hand if you're in-sight of another sailor, and SV Delos is a bloody great example of this. Wow. You guys are awesome. I've done so much rescue and help-thy-neighbour over the years and you guys NEVER fail to demonstrate this core cruising behavior. Solid as...love DELOS.
How many times has Maggie come to the rescue over these past 8 years? If there is a Coast Guard Commendation Medal for dinghies, then Maggie deserves one!
Your an awesome guy brian. Always helping people in need . I have seen you do it a few times over the years. Speaks alot for your character bro. God bless and be safe yaw. The nug is a beautiful little girl and a blessing to you and the wifey for sure.
Thanks for helping and it is literally the law of the sea, "The International Convention for Safety of Life at Sea (IMO 1974) states that “the master of a ship at sea, on receiving a signal from any source that a ship or aircraft or survival craft there of is in distress, is bound to proceed with all speed to the assistance of the persons in distress"
Hell of a job staying up, and alert, and ready with the experience, knowhow, and gear to be there in the knick of time to avoid a disaster for not just that crew, but the Airport, passengers and the Fort. A toast to Captain Brian and all who saved the day 🍻!!
Brian you are so genuinely helpful and kind, expecting nothing in return. I can’t remember how many times you have rescued someone when they were in trouble. Your experience and knowledge is remarkable. Safe journey and keep healthy.
Loving your time at Dry Tortigas. It’s one of my all time favorite places and you can’t deny, visiting on your own boat is the way to go. Glad you were there for the other boat. Hair raising experience.
The boating community is one of a kind. Always eager to assist each other. Your cameras are amazing. Such vibrant shades of blue and other sea life. Thanks for taking us along.😎
What a wonderful way to grow up, Around people who love you, Abundant learning possibilities ,No unnecessary trauma ,Meeting every type of person and seeing the world.
Love love this. So much more than I was expecting. I was literally a kid again today out at the DT with my friends. So grateful to see the reef as healthy as it was 35 years ago. Thank you Delos crew for bringing me back. You really did this video and the DT justice. Much love as always to my favorite sailing family. ☮️❤️
Hey thanks so much Sammy! It's really cool to see the healthy coral, so many places we've been to are not doing nearly as well. Let's hope that this area is spared the bleaching that's happening in so many places. Fair winds and thanks so much for your support and watching!
I can't agree more with the health of the reef. I have been diving since the mid 70s and have almost given up on South Florida. That video was wonderful and inspiring to get back out there and go diving again.
I just wanted to say that I really enjoy watching your videos and I love what your doing,I would absolutely love to go on the SV Delos one day!! Keep being you cause your both awesome!!!
Those dives took my breath away! Due to age and health now, all I can do is live it thru others. Love your channel and adventures! Smooth sailing Delos!
Brian and crew are simply awesome! Helping out fellow sailors in trouble is what the sailing community is all about! Go SV Delos :-) Be safe out there...
Fascinating! You guys are such good neighbors, and seamanship skills to save the day! Your photography is absolutely stellar. Such a joy to watch-thank you!
We love the Dry Tortugas as well. The weather can change in minutes. Sometimes while cruising you get lazy about setting your anchor as if there is a storm coming, but you HAVE to do it. I only sleep well after I have dug in my anchor and taken a dive on it to see that it is well set. Chain and a good anchor Every Night. SUPER COOL of you and your Patron to assist another cruiser in need!! Fair winds my friend.
@@svdelos Maybe the 2nd book for Brian could be titled "Great Tips For Sailors". Every yacht Broker and boat seller company should buy and distribute both books as complimentary gifts to every yacht buyer of any description and type. I love the new instrumentation on Delos! You guys really take such good care of her. If you ever want to upgrade her and sell Delos, I would love to buy her!
That looked like a Morgan Ketch, built like a tank so probably not much damage, and sure lucky to have Brian with his experience right next door. Time to start calling you lucky Jack!
That's one thing that I like so much about y'all. Always ready and willing to lend a hand. Alot of people would just pretend they didn't see. Nice job.

Wow, that was a lot of excitement. I'm glad you guys were able to lend a hand and I'm sure it was appreciated. Nugs waking up reminds me of my niece when she wakes up.
I'm still amazed every time when a boats in trouble how everyone helps in the yachtie community. Great save so that owner could sale another day ..... with the engine gone and all the other problems that boat had must have stressed the owner out thinking all would be lost ..awesome save !! My son when he was a baby loved putting the corner of his comfort blanket in his ear when he slept ..he is 15 now ..i see Nugget loves her comfort blanket too ,first thing to get before even saying good morning to Mom and Dad.
I'm so glad I caught up with you in "real time" after all the binge watching these last weeks. Another great video. Beautiful underwater images and amazing display of seamanship and love for your neighbors. You guys ROCK!

Brian to the rescue! (Again). Awesome how the cruisers come together to help each other out. Way to go team Delos!
