HOW TO READ FAULT CODES ON HUSQVARNA 701!! | HOW TO GET REV COUNTER!!

- In this video I explain how to read fault codes from your bike. The app I use shows the code and also gives a description of what it is. Great if you keep getting a fault!
*NOTE - This is what works for me and many others. There are the odd few that have had issues but that may be down to the dongle or mobile device! The link to the cable has changed and looks like it should work but I cannot confirm!
You can also use this to set up a rev counter/tachometer thing (whatever you want to call it) as these apps can read multiple sensors from your bikes ECU.
The Torque app is available for Android and there is a lite and pro version available. ##

OBD2 cable - UPDATE 7th Sept 2023 - Looks like the company I bought my cable from have stopped trading. The below link is for a cable that looks like mine and claims to work. If you have a newer Euro5 bike (2019/2020+) the connector may be different but there is a link in the page for that one too (check your plug!).

You can also google "KTM OBD2 adapter" to find one more local to you.
This is the dongle I use and works well

Have a look at the Android/Apple compatible devices from OBD Innovations as these should all work!

Good stuff again. You're the go-to guy for 701 tech. I feel a dongle purchase a comin'
What a wonderful age we live in, I never would of though!
Thank you for finding comparable doc and instrument display
Just received the parts , works great
I get the same code for the heater. I also have no o2 sensor code comes and goes.
Genius exists!
Nice...very helpful for when i upgrade bike year!
Hello,
Where can i find the plug for the reader? I cant find it on my bike
It can be found somewhere around the battery/ecu. You should be able to lift the ecu out without disconnecting it. It could be pushed down the side of somewhere. If you have a newer than 2022 bike, they may have changed it (I sold mine and haven't kept up to date with them). Hope this helps.
Thanks for video and links!
What air-filter do you use and why?
It's the DNA filter with stage 2 plate (big orange bit on top). Wanted to keep the standard airbox and this was the biggest filter available for it. Didn't want a big cone filter as I ride in all weathers and the rottweiler one is mega bucks but might still get one.
@@Twedymoto do you plan remapping or why have you installed it?
tried this with the 2016 ktm690 and the 701 husq 2018 and neither does connect with 2 different cables and 4 different dongle.....
Hey Twedymoto, Can you tell me what protocol your adapter uses when connected to the ECU? Also, it would be helpful if you could tell us what the part numbers are on your Keihin ECU. I'm trying to connect to the ECU on my 2016 but it's being difficult. As far as I can tell it is using CAN-BUS but troubleshooting would be easier if I could narrow it down.
Sorry for the late reply. Couldn't tell you what protocol it is mate. The ECU is older on the 2016 so I believe it is K-line and not can-bus. You'll be able to find a lot more info if you look for the 2014-2017 KTM 690. My 2017 ECU has 2 lots of plugs where i think the 2016 is only 1 big plug?
Sorry, meant to ask - did you find a more reliable dongle?
No mate. Haven't really had much time to put into the bike this year unfortunately but the one I have now does work providing it has been given some time to warm up.
I may look into it again at some point but the little man is taking all my time and attention haha.
Does It show total or lifetime hours on the bike ecu as well?
I'm not sure if it shows on the phone app but you can check this on the dash. It's the "ART" bit in the middle of the display when you press the trip buttons.
@@Twedymoto this would be for a 15’ 450sxf so I don’t have the dash.
Does the OBD reader require cell connection or can it read it off bluetooth? (Will it work where there is no cell service?)
The obd connectors are Bluetooth or WiFi mate. Bluetooth ones are usually better. 👍
Did you make or buy the exhaust protector? I’m after the same for mine 👍🏻
I bought it from a German website but got the wrong size so cut it down and made it fit. You can make your own with silicone pipe and a large hose clamp or get them from safe exhaust. 👍

What's the point in that vid? And why on earth did you buy the reader in the US - very strange.
Do you have a link for the bluetooh dongle?
You can get them off ebay/amazon mate but I'd try the vgate icar 2, they seem to be the most common and reasonably priced. Check the comments/reviews before you buy though to make sure you don't get a fake.
@@Twedymoto oh perfect, thanks for you help and videos
Got a solution to "clear" the codes?
You should be able to clear them using the Torque app or other obd2 reader apps.
does this work on 2020?
I'm not sure pal. Some have tried and it worked OK and others it didn't work for. Not sure if it's the ecu or whether they had poor readers.
If you have a friend with a code reader, maybe try it before you buy one. 👍
So you can't set rpm on bike taco then
No, bike display only shows speed.
