Hi all, thank you for the wonderful comments and all your support on this film. I've just set up a Patreon for any of you interested in supporting my video creation further: www.patreon.com/naturalworldfacts I'm very new to Patreon so any feedback or tips would mean the world!
My man, I’m not sure how to explain it but when you narrate, it sounds almost like you’re smiling throughout. I can tell you are very passionate and these videos are favorites to many. Very informative while also beautiful and haunting. Wonderful work!
It makes sense that whale falls would happen close to others because they die along migration routes, but somehow it surprised me. Wonderful episode as always.
I legitimately got chills when The Endurance came looming out of the darkness. The music picked up, the haunting melody played, and that lost vessel appeared as though she had sunk only a days ago instead of over a century. Both beautiful and terrifying. A memory frozen in time, 2 miles beneath the waves.
Glad I'm getting notifications again! I've always been fascinated by whale-falls, but I know much less about wood-falls. Always happy to learn something new. Thank you for all the work you put into your videos.

David Attenborough is one of the most recognizable and renown broadcasters today. But I have a feeling you will surpass even his star one day. Thank you for your beautiful work.
@@NaturalWorldFacts I prefer your voice over his :) Yours has a meditative feeling in it. So, watching this documentary felt like a spiritual experience. 0:13: 🌊 The deep sea is a food-poor environment where animals rely on food sinking from above or chemosynthesis. 4:38: 🐋 Whale carcasses on the sea-floor provide an evolutionary interface between non-chemosynthetic scavengers and specialized animals at vents and seeps. 8:54: 🐚 The bivalves Xylophaga and Giant Shipworm have evolved specialized traits to consume wood. 12:46: 🦪 Chemosynthetic microbes play a crucial role in the deep-sea ecosystem, providing nutrients for various organisms including Bathymodiolus mussels. 17:31: 🌊 The colonisers of Endurance are predominantly filter feeders, with sea lilies and sea squirts using different methods to obtain food. Recap by Tammy AI
Fascinating. I had known, sort of, about how mussels reproduce by flinging their larva into the currents, but I'd got the idea that those larva had a short amount of time to find someplace to settle down. But listening and learning here, I wonder now just how long they really have? It can't be a SHORT trip from seep to whale fall - "tens of kilometers" may not seem far to us with ships and ROVs but that seems like a journey of epic length for a sessile creature! Also, is the same floating-larva method of reproduction used by the bone eating worms and tube worms? I found myself astonished over and over during the video at how many "non mobile" creatures seem to magically appear on the bones and the wood. It's plain that the tube worms did not WALK there, haha, but at the same time it still seems like a miracle that they are there at all. Once more, a wonderfully edited and scripted piece of work. You always put such thought and care into your presentation and it's superb every time. I look forward to the next one!
Yet another fantastic video Leo. I'd never really thought about sunken ships as any more than just something for corals, etc. to attach to. This has been another eye opening and very informative video from you.

This is so cool. Deep sea animals are so fascinating and tbh a really good thing to study if we ever wanted to figure out how life on other planets can live without oxygen or other key nutrients.
Exploring the underwater world not only fills us with wonder but also reminds us of the importance of protecting these precious ecosystems for future generations.
I started with a video about deep sea giants and now I've been hooked for about 2 hours. Your videos are amazingly done, front your narration to the clips and background music. As well as incredibly educational. Thank you.
Once again, Leo, your stunning combination of video, music, and voice has created a mesmerizing mix of soothing beauty and scientific knowledge. It's even more amazing that you can pull it off with decaying carcasses and detritus feeders....I was almost hypnotized by the way you presented these creatures, and how well adapted and connected they are throughout their ecosystems, and beyond.

Wow.. I feel like the luckiest person in the world, now I've watched this video and found your channel. This was just what I needed, in so many ways! Im very much looking forward to watch the rest of your video's. Thank you so much!
I love popping in to see your new releases. They are so good, especially the calming, unrushed narration, i could have it on in the background and also listen to it watching it head on. The footage you find is also phenomenal, so good you can even just watch the camera and its crazily good. I've been here a couple months, and heres to many more :DD
This is so interesting. I just stumbled across your channel. Whale carcasses remind me of the dead trees lying on the ground in the woods. It has always amazed me how much life a dead tree supports. Anything from squirrel and woodpecker homes to mushrooms, moss, insects and more. I was able to witness a huge cottonwood tree die from a lightning strike. I watched it over the years in stages of decay. It took nearly a decade to finally fall over. Now it's a log on the ground still supporting life almost 15 years after it was killed by that bolt Edit: oh my gosh I made this comment before seeing the part about fallen trees. Amazing 😁
@@NaturalWorldFacts They really do! I've been playing multiple of your videos when falling asleep daily ever since I first found your channel, and all I can say is: My ADHD and my sleep are very grateful for your videos!
I was hoping to learn about the “rusticles” of the Titanic. Are the organisms that form these rust formations a form of chemosythentic life? I’m aware that they are literally eating the iron and steel, which will cause the wreck to collapse sometime in the future. I also wanted to learn if these rusticle organisms have been found at other iron or steel wrecks? Are they unique to the Atlantic, or are they in other oceans? The sunken WW2 wrecks of Japan and the United States at Midway, or Guadalcanal? The Bismarck in the Bay of Biscay? Somali pirate shipwrecks in the Indian Ocean?
Ah, what a great reward after a day of work. I'm excited to watch this one. :D 1:45 Seeing the Chimera on the left already makes me smile. Good start. 3:15 I felt a bit proud that I remembered the name Osedax from previous videos. The teaching was successful. (40 tons of whale = 2000 years of marine snow, you really hammered that into my head) 4:45 Wow. The amount of life at display is incredible. You have really boosted my interested in chemosynthetic microbes. I didn't expect them to even live from byproducts from other "lower level" animals. The length of these food chains is astonishing. But I wonder how those mussels get to the wood fall. ...and mere seconds after writing the question you already answered it. This feels really interactive. :) Overall a fantastic video. I thoroughly enjoyed it. (and a little remainder that I had sent you another mail some time ago. Now I know that one of the creatures I show there is a sea squirt.^^ And if it takes you two months to answer, that's still perfectly fine, lol. Good luck with university!)
I love your videos Leo! Keep up the amazing and talented work. These are my go to videos when I have a hard time falling asleep or when studying. Your voice is very soothing and unique it keeps me interested along with the amazing visuals you use as well!

I realize you are younger, but you are amazing, I love science and your soothing narration helps me get through tough moments during that day and learn so much more about how complex our little world really is and how it all fits together! Much respect from Canada 🇨🇦
i love these videos. The complexity of creation never ceases to amaze me! I play these when I get off work. Don't take this the wrong way, but your voice helps me sleep
Love the way you narrate these. It’s unreal. Such an interesting, otherworldly habitat
Screw the app, I enjoy falling to sleep to Natural World Facts! It's like ASMR.
I love listening to these vidoes when at work. I learn something new with each video. Keep up the great work!!
Wow.. I feel like the luckiest person in the world, now I've watched this video and found your channel. This was just what I needed, in so many ways! Im very much looking forward to watch the rest of your video's. Thank you so much!
I'm amazed, im disturbed, I'm so grateful to the work that went into this. Decay is an extant form of life
I love popping in to see your new releases. They are so good, especially the calming, unrushed narration, i could have it on in the background and also listen to it watching it head on. The footage you find is also phenomenal, so good you can even just watch the camera and its crazily good. I've been here a couple months, and heres to many more :DD
"Endurance", such a fitting name!
Breathtaking videos as always, learned a lot today and very moved by all the footage, music, and your gentle voice.
I love your videos so much, they’re relaxing without being boring and are perfect when I need something to watch before bed.
Return to your channel after months...give me heart big brother
This is so interesting. I just stumbled across your channel. Whale carcasses remind me of the dead trees lying on the ground in the woods. It has always amazed me how much life a dead tree supports. Anything from squirrel and woodpecker homes to mushrooms, moss, insects and more. I was able to witness a huge cottonwood tree die from a lightning strike. I watched it over the years in stages of decay. It took nearly a decade to finally fall over. Now it's a log on the ground still supporting life almost 15 years after it was killed by that bolt
Edit: oh my gosh I made this comment before seeing the part about fallen trees. Amazing 😁
I'm glad I decided to subscribe, these videos and the gentle narrating voice really calm my ADHD when I try to sleep!
Thank you so much for this comment - I can absolutely relate to that, so I’m thrilled my videos help you in that way!
1:45 Seeing the Chimera on the left already makes me smile. Good start.
3:15 I felt a bit proud that I remembered the name Osedax from previous videos. The teaching was successful. (40 tons of whale = 2000 years of marine snow, you really hammered that into my head)
4:45 Wow.
Overall a fantastic video. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
(and a little remainder that I had sent you another mail some time ago. Now I know that one of the creatures I show there is a sea squirt.^^ And if it takes you two months to answer, that's still perfectly fine, lol. Good luck with university!)
Another great video friend, this kind of documentary is often better than those shown on TV
