I’m glad I found your review on this MMB and the CarlinKit. And also your reviews prove that they work with aftermarket radios I have a Pioneer 10.1 inch touchscreen with wired and wireless CarPlay inter grated in to the vehicle controls. The websites say they will not work with aftermarket radio’s? Anyway I ordered the CarlinKit it seemed better quality of use compared to the MMB. Thank you for your review of both products.
Good choice. I hope it works out well for you. Let us know how it goes with your pioneer. I’ve been hearing some dongles haven’t been working on pioneers. But earlier dongles didn’t have a problem on my SPH-DA120 receiver.
I tried to connect my MMB 11 Plus to connect to my Coral Vision Pro and it doesn’t get recognized by the display. How did you get it to connect to the display and work? It works in my car and connecting it via HDMI to my computer monitor or my Television with the USBC port connected to a usb hub as a power source. I was trying to replicate your connection as my idea was to use my Coral Vision Car Play screen as an indoor screen when I need up update apps using my Wi-Fi speed from my house which is way faster than my car hotspot. Just wondering if it worked just by plugging the Box into the USBC port in your display.
Just so you are aware if you have the latest software update to this unit (which was released sometime early last year), you can now overwrite the startup video sequence including the "loading" bit with a video (mp4) of your choice. I'm not so sure which other video file formats are supported, but I used an mp4 file. It's very easy too; just get your video file, i would recommend of course something suitable and not too long, perhaps similar to the duration of the original one, and access it from a usb stick or however and then just use the Replace Animation feature. This is available on the software update.
When you connect it to the wifi hotspot of the mobile phone does the box support the 5 GHz band or does it only connect to the 2.4 GHz? Congratulations on your videos, very well done.
Thanks for watching. This box should do both 2.4/5Ghz I think, this can be set in the hotspot section of the Android OS settings, that I 'think' you have access to on this dongle.
Hi i want to screen mirror from my iphone. I click on mirror on the mmb box and then connect to the network and then select screen mirror on my phone. I can see it’s on as my phone is showing the on symbol but I only get a blank screen on the mmb box display? Am I missing something?
No this sounds right to me. Maybe try a different phone to see if it’s not your phone or the dongle that has an issue. Try different versions of android also if you can.
Once you see it’s menu interface on your CarPlay display, if you want to download or use most apps that needed internet you’ll need to connect the dongle to a WiFi hotspot
thanks for your amazing reviews and videos , can i have your opinion , i have mercedes E class with no touch screen , and i want the best and fast android box with wireless carplay which one to choose there is alot of choices and i cant decide , so can yo suggest the best one ?
Hello, i have a Mercedes A160 (W177 from 2020). It has Carplay, but the service is not enabled. Does the service have to be activated for the MMB box or does it work without the service? Thank you in advance
Great video and device. Do you know if there's any of these CarPlay Android boxes that has both Android11 + 4G/LTE SIM card slot? Most of them have Android 9 or 10 only...
MMB had a nicer more thought about UI. Both are fairly spec’d the same but the V3 or TBox MINI is better spec’d for wireless WiFi connections and has 8 core over the 4 core on the MMB
I just had the device, You mentioned all the advantages for it but also have some disadvantages at least for me *There is a noticeable lag in some apps like youtube and google map. *There is no control of the brightness. while I was on the road in the dark time I had to disconnect the device, too much brightness.
Sorry to hear about your issues. Lag is pretty much the same across all these earlier dongles as the hardware is the same. It’s a little improved on the QC665 chipset dongles. As for the brightness, I didn’t think it would override your systems brightness settings? There might be an option in the dongle android settings for brightness? That or maybe send them a message to see if they can implement this function.
Your vids are FANTASTIC!!! Got that version. How do I get it to work with my steering wheel controls? My 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee will control Android Auto when I connect my phone via cable, but when I connect wireless to this device...steering wheel controls do not work. HELP!! Appreciate your hard work. Thumbs up!
Thanks for watching. Unfortunately I can’t make much of a suggestion. If it works wired then it’s a software issue that could improve with updates (if any) but if you just want wireless AA maybe a 2in1 might have been better.
Quick question. If my car only has apple carplay and not android auto will this still work. Can it start like detecting an iphone or is it android based to begin with then software cloaks the carplay on top? Many thanks.
Yes this only works with wired CarPlay systems in the car. It’s predominantly android os based. So it will launch into android OS first then you can have the CarPlay/Android auto app auto launch to then connect to your phone. All this takes time though. Between 45-60seconds at the best of times.
Mini and BMW are tough ones for compatibility. So I would struggle to recommend a specific adapter. Check out the Ottocast Picasou 2 or 2 Pro and buy from somewhere like Amazon so you have easy returns if it’s not comparable. Also check if your mini is listed in their list of compatibility, if it isn’t listed, it’s a huge risk.
I've got a question for you. I'm operating off of my MAC desktop computer that only offers USB-C in and outputs. I'm wondering how I can gain access into the 11 PRO to download app, videos, movies, photos directly from my computer? I obviously have internet in my home so I can download apps and videos much faster rather than operating inside of my vehicle via the Hotspot connection. Do you offer any input or video tutorial or any suggestions for that matter? It would greatly be appreciated as I am brand new to this product after watching your video feed.
You could set it up initially, which sounds like you have, but setup a BT remote or mouse, something for input. Then connect it to an hdmi monitor or screen to continue setting it up outside of the car. You could try an hdmi usb c adapter but I’ve not tired this myself
If all my main concern is watching netflix prime and youtube do you suggest this one or the android 9 version? It seemed like it was mostly buggy with the apple play just like the older version am i correct? I like the hdmi aspect as well
They each have their quirks. The U2 Plus runs android 9 while MMB 11 runs android 11 and has a better UI. Both have same CPU but a different GPU. I’d go with the MMB 11 out of these two.
hi mate great review, can you connect wireless carplay and use your phone hotspot at the same time ? i have the android 11 4g + 64gb version and i have to disconnect hotspot if i want wireless car play
You could try setting the hotspot password to 12345678 and see if that works? I’m not sure on the manual if you have to also set the name of it to something too.
@@jonobrain1 oh! Thanks for sharing this. That’s such a shame. One dongle (I can’t remember which one) had a section for auto connect and setting password and WiFi ID to allow auto connection. It may have been for android though.
Just on 7:26 screen mirroring. What am I doing wrong? Why am I seeing just a blank screen when I try to screen mirror. Exact model mmb as yours. Tutorial maybe?
Does the Carplay works wired on Usb port of MMB? So this qay I don’t need to disconnect the hotspot to use CarPlay and so I cam quick switch to carplay to youtube video? Right?
Sadly this method doesn't work that way. The device only looks out for wireless connection for CarPlay, which is nuts, and it would be a good feature if it did this.
Hi this is a very valid question. I want to do exactly the same thing and have been at it since. Have you or anyone on here been able to figure this out perhaps?
Is this compatible and the best with the audi s4 b9 2018 without touch screen ? I would like to watch netflix and UA-cam I have android auto already Installed. Tia
Yes it’s big shame. Maybe hold out for a newer version. At this rate I don’t know what else they can put in these. So hopefully they improve on reliability and performance going forward 🤞🏻
@@CarPlayLife Hi, Thanks for replying. I will explain a little bit better this time. So, I use various Android phones in a car with Android Auto/CarPlay/MirrorLink (has Full Link) that has touchscreen panel for multimedia and a digital cockpit. I want to be able "to see videos" from UA-cam/internal or external storage/Netflix/Prime Video on the central console touchscreen while on the digital cockpit to still have the GPS from the car running independent. This way the other passenger can have something to watch while I can focus driving and have the control of the volume at my finger tips on the multi-function wheel. That will be the most important use for me. Anything else will be "extras". IF you can recommend something that adapt to these particular needs, will be great !
@@EasyLifeES OK that's clear. So if your GPS nav is coming from the system's own navigation, then your centre cluster will work as it currently does, these dongles don't really interfere with that, as they shouldn't do when using carplay or android auto wired. So you'll want an AI Box for UA-cam and Netflix etc. luckily you won't need a fast chipset for these apps, but having a fast chipset does get you into the apps faster and also the general navigation will be smoother and less 'clunky'. So I would still recommend getting the fastest dongle you can afford and hopefully, that is compatible with the carplay that is in your existing system. The MMB 11 Plus is good but a little underpowered compared to other faster alternatives. We might see an MMB update in around 2 months' time, but until then, the QC665/QC6125 AI Boxes give you a smoother performance in and around the Android system and for streaming. Look for as much RAM as possible, most max RAM is around 4GB with 6GB models starting to show in china. So this AI Box is still my most recommended right now - ua-cam.com/video/UgQrpMZ-eow/v-deo.html - but it is rare in most Amazon stores apart from Germany. There is a similar dongle brand I link to in my pinned comment in that video you can view and check out that carry the same specs. Hope this helps
@@CarPlayLife Yeah, really helpful! Thanks a lot for your time! I'm not really in hurry to buy one (but I need it around this mid-summer when we start to travel more july-august). The price is not a huge deal (if is worth it), I just need something that performs well (NO "clunky" or overheating issues, I live in Spain so hot summer's is not something unusual here) all year around, sitting in a glove compartment. I've seen most of your recent videos with these devices, but seems that they aren't just there yet with them. Frames drops or lag is something that turns me off quickly, so I will probably wait for few months more till some newer better options will be available, because I don't want to buy something and not be happy with the result. Maybe in the next few months I will come back with the same question (I hope not bother you too much) if I see that you have more than 3-4 devices that came new on your channel, with higher specs and I'm in trouble getting the best one from that bunch. So, thanks again and have a nice evening!
@@EasyLifeES No problem. I hope to be covering a few new dongles over the next month, most are still being powered with the lower end QC450 chipset, which is sad. Apparently, not many makers/brands are adopting the faster chip due to stability, but I have not seen it be that unstable. Perhaps they are overheating long term, which is an area I have not been able to test myself. The MIC is fairly small, so slapping on a bigger heatsink and making the whole casing bigger wouldn't be that much of an issue if it makes them more stable. Hey ho, we shall see what they all come up with very soon I am sure, but my next few AI dongles will be the old/slower tech with improved software performance tweaks.
To bypass that slow bootup, have you used a USB Dongle with Power Delivery and a PowerBank? Maybe that way the box never turns off (thanks to the power bank) and you can still connect to the car via the usb dongle
How did you get the dongle recognized by Coral Vision display? I plug my MMB 11 Box in into my Coral Vision Pro display via the USBC port and although the light flashes on the MMB, the display does not show the box as being connected. I can connect my iPhone directly and wirelessly to the display and the Car Play screen shows up on the display of the Coral Vision Pro without any issues. I am aware that Coral Vision released firmware V2.41 on July 25, 2022, and that is the firmware that my Coral Vision Pro has, also MMB has released a few firmware updates as well my MMB has firmware 220804.142947 from August 4, 2022. I just purchased my MMB box recently as well. Do you think that is why my MMB box is not connecting to my Coral Vision display?
Yea that could be possible. Coral doesn’t send out updates for people to use. So my version is going to be very old. Likely first production. My MMB 11 is the same. Early production so very early firmware. You can also try swapping the cable connectors over on the MMB cable and also a different cable. See if that kicks it in.
It’s a stand alone dongle as it runs android apps, using personal hotspot from iPhone or android for data to those apps. You can connect iPhone or a compatible android to it for wireless CarPlay and Android Auto.
Quick question on the mmb 11 plus how do you delete apps from it? And I also have a carlink on android 9.0 and I can download DM Control app from google play store but on mmb 11 plus the DM control app does not even show up in google play store? Please advise you have so much experience and knowledge on these devices. Thank you
It’s been a while since I last used the 11 to know about deleting apps. If you can’t tap and hold to order or remove them, have a look in the settings menu to turn of stock apps. MMB runs android 11 so some apps might be configure not to install on certain platforms. Especially if they are rooted, which the majority of AI Boxes are. So that’s why you sometimes might not see the app available on some dongles. To work around this you can go to apkmirror.com and sideload the app instead.
Huge question: Does Google maps support pinch to zoom on the Android side?(if you have a touch screen) It irritates me to no end that you can’t use this basic gesture in CarPlay.
Sadly not. it is also a limitation of the display you're using with it and if that supports multitouch. I think as its so varied across devices they limit it.
These dongles, can I control it through steering wheel, and reverse camera and 360 cameras will it display it ???? I’m trying to buy the best dongle for optima 2020, please reply back….
Most can be controlled with buttons on the wheel. As for reverse cams. It’s unlikely because they can’t connect to the dongle. You need an android headunit for things like that.
@@assagr by 360 cameras, do you mean like a dash camera? I don’t think any do work with cameras like that unless they are Bluetooth and have an android app for them. Wheel controls are mostly supported. Depending on dongle, vehicle and it’s compatibility.
@@CarPlayLife 360 (4 cameras) are built in, 2 sides ( right & left mirrors), front and rear. I looked for many android head units that matched optima original screen size but the 360 are not mentioned in product details. Thanks for the quick reply by the way
@@assagr ah ok. Sounds fancy :) I don’t think a dongle is going to work with these cameras. You kinda want something a little more integrated, like an android headunit that can work with CANBUS or something and interact with the camera feed. Maybe a discussion with a local car installer might point you in the right direction.
Most of the time these usb a ports are for upgrading or usb media. They don’t usually work with other peripherals. So it would be 50/50 if this would work with them. I don’t have one available to try.
Thanks for your impressions of this unit. If you were looking for the best performance of all the AI boxes currently available (cost to performance not a factor), what you you recommend?
Right now, the Aurora/Bingo+ felt the most robust and stable. However I hope to get my hands on better performing AI boxes very soon. So I would hold out for them. Things keep changing every few months as newer boxes release so rapidly.
Any new updates to report since it has been a few months. I am trying to purchase the best currently available to use with my IPhone 12 in my 2022 C8 Corvette. Thanks in advance and continue to provide this very valuable advice and reviews.
@@ronaldbates2428 I don't know if it's helpful but I ended up buying the MIC unit he reviewed. I'm happy with mine so far but would be good to hear if he still thinks it's one of the best available right now ua-cam.com/video/UgQrpMZ-eow/v-deo.html
@@ronaldbates2428 nothing major out really other than some faster QC665 boxes. I hear MMB have added a firmware update that allows audio over HDMI now.
Thank you for this video. This maybe a dump questions But once this MMB IS CONNECTED, AND MY PHONE IS NOW BLUETOOTH connected to MMB and the MMB is connect to my hot spot then I ASSUME ANDRIOD CAR PLAY is disabled correct? Everything now runs through the MMB?
Yes you can’t have personal mobile hotspot and wireless CarPlay running from the same phone together, both require WiFi and it isn’t able to share both IN and OUT sadly. Some dongles can get around this with SIM support and inserting a data SIM for android app use and that frees up the WiFi for wireless CarPlay/AAUTO
If you don’t see it’s interface when you select CarPlay on your car system then the dongle is either faulty or incompatible with your car system. Try to use it in another CarPlay vehicle to rule out these scenarios
Hi, 1-Does it support all networks 2.4G /4G/5G? 2- Does it install a data SIM or not? 3- Is this device the best version for cars with sound quality, image and speed? 4- Does it support Arabic language?
Sorry for the late response on this, I only just fired the dongle back up to check 1. 3G/4G, no 5G 2. No data sim slot on this dongle so you have to use personal hotspot from phone or a mi-fi device 3. They all sound pretty good, speed depends on chipset inside and RAM, the more the better/faster 4. I think it does yes. Hope this helps
Buenas tardes una pregunta cuál de todos los Carplay qué hay el mercado en se el mejor quiero comprarme uno y no sé cuál Good afternoon a question which of all the Carplay what is the market in is the best I want to buy one and I do not know which one
I have high hopes for the QC665 chipset of AI Boxes that will see more commonly sold soon. I have one coming for review and I have hopes that this will be the best so far but we shall see in my review. So keep your eyes peeled for that review in the coming weeks.
Hi, I wanted information, I bought this product, but I can't connect it to the PC, be Mac and Windows, seeing your video you have managed to copy files directly to the device by connecting it to the PC. I tried it but I can't find it. I could know how you do it? thank you
Hi, so from what I know is that you can't connect it to macOS, it only works with Windows PC. Maybe try different USB ports, make sure you're using the USB-C output port to the PC, not the USB-A port. If it doesn't come up within around 30minutes of connecting it, try and see if you can update the dongle to the latest firmware. Earlier software doesn't carry this feature. Also the dongle doesn't come up as a drive as such, it is titled differently but I can't remember its title name right now.
@@CarPlayLife it's similar how you can plug your Android phone into a laptop for USB tethering. There is Bluetooth tethering but I think I'll opt for one of the boxes you reviewed that has a sim slot.
You can’t remove the animation. Only it’s sound. I think this is to mask the boot up time it needs to start up the menu interface. I am pretty sure you can move the icons with a tap and hold, then drag gesture.
@@CarPlayLife Latest firmware at least allows animation change and custom animation and at least masks the loading screen as well but for the dragging and moving icons only on same page apparently which I find very silly of MMB.
Have you found a way to move apps between pages in the android home screen. The typical hold and drag only allows me to move them on just the page they are on cant move apps from page 3 or 4 to page 1.
Found that if you go into engineering mode with 1868, you can turn off all other apps but the ones I wanted. Then I turned back on the others apps. Doing this moved all the apps I wanted to first pages. Hope this helps others.
It’s as simple as heading over to Google play app. Browsing and downloading apps there. To side load apks there’s an APK installer which will install downloaded or apps from a connected usb drive
hi, I have same system, can't find reset button - it seems to just stick on the New series screen on boot up. Any help? Loved your review by the way. x
If it’s boot looping, that’s a common fault. If you had it on the CarPlay boot setting then you can try removing all BT and WiFi profiles off your phone and see if it skips and falls back to android. To reset you will need to use a PC, files and software to make it work again. Their support team should tell you and give you what you need to do.
@@CarPlayLife Cheers mate, yeh my only concern with MMB are their lack of commitments to updates. Having owned the 1st generation MMB CarPlay Plus unit at the end of 2020, they're on their 3rd gen unit now (with the 1st and 2nd gen support abandoned).
Does the notification tray work on this device? I have the Carlinkit AI Box with Android 9 and the notification tray opens, but notifications are completely blocked. Because notifications are disabled, it seems like things like Google Voice is blocked from displaying incoming calls. I can't seem to find any discussion about this issue. So I'm mostly stuck buying a different one and testing it myself.
@@CarPlayLife on the Carlinkit device it opens, but shows "no notifications." And notifications fail to display. I tried posting a notification with Tasker and nothing happened. No sound or popups work. I can't decide if I should return it or not because of that and the fact that the navigation guidance in Maps seems to be broken as well. 🙄
@@CarPlayLife there were a few updates and the notifications were still disabled. I am thinking that it's intended to not permit notifications. I've sent it back to return it. But the original question still remains, does the box in the video allow or have working notifications and the notification tray accessible???
Beware, mine stopped working after 4 months… their support sucks ballz, I tried getting help for months but never received any responses. When plugged in through USB, the status light just keeps blinking and the car says it’s an unrecognized device. $390 paper weight… had it in a 2019 Durango SRT.
Lord, I just can't decide which one I want to buy. I care most about screen mirroring from my Galaxy note 9 IN SYNC, UA-cam, the ability to play my own videos and media from my phone (in sync mirroring) or a USB drive, maaaybe Netflix... I rather other video apps... But I rather screen mirror any video app from my phone onto my car display! Help?!
The MMB is the only dongle I found so far that allows mirroring to work well and in sync by buffering in its own play. But it’s still not perfect. Especially via android device, which I found to be a lot worse than on iPhone mirroring. I hope to be reviewing a new dongle similar to the MMB but with better mirroring performance. Should be around June time if it’s sent to me in time.
This one the MMB 11. They are releasing an update in the next 1-2 months with better specs. But right now, in my experience, they all haven’t been that great in screen mirroring video to the CarPlay screen from an android device. It’s always pixelated and generally not a great experience. For best case you need to play media off a usb drive or streamed from an app installed on the box itself.
@@CarPlayLife One more question, out of all of the MMB models so for far (wired carplay to android auto), which one would you say works best with USB media, specifically video in motion from a USB drive? Or are they pretty much all do that well enough? I have in mind to use VLC related to video, and I'd use my phone's Bluetooth for music.
@@CarPlayLife Aaaa ok, that's why I haven't had look to find it in your channel with the "search option". Thanks, I will give it a try to that video. P.S: You can add it that tag also for your video. I don't think anyone will complain. :)
It all depends what you want out it. For me performance is paramount and the CarLinkit has more power under the good to make it a better, smoother experience.
Make sure it’s running the update from Jan 22 or newer. That came with the ability to plug it in like that. It took a while for it to show up. And it’s also PC only. Not MacOS
@@rhyswilkinson4373 there’s no way sadly other than checking out version on the settings menu of the dongle (but that’s if you can get into it alright)
Does anyone know if I can use another USB cable instead of the one supplied? The reason I am asking is because I am thinking of buying a 90 degree angled usb cable. Because the tray in my car where the mmb box goes cannot close with the supplied cable plugged in
@@CarPlayLife thank you very much for your reply. that's good to know. They had me thinking the one supplied with the unit was kind of "special" lol - as it seemed somewhat more bulky around the heads, compared to other cables
When in CarPlay you need to press the icon that says Main Menu. For me it has an Alpine logo to match my system. So yours should be what you do to go home to your system when using wired CarPlay.
@@CarPlayLife Thankyou so much I thought the skoda icon would just be same as in normal CarPlay and take me elsewhere . Also have you had any issues with setting hotspot as my car needs min 12 digits so been using phone but everytime I get in I have to open settings for hotspot on phone then re connect WiFi on box
I feel like the dongle has an apk that would be installable on a phone that would make it even more viable, but then again, it would cut sales but maybe I'm wrong because I can't think of how it would allow carplay.
It uses an APP for CarPlay, just like all the other dongles, otherwise you'd have to reboot between android OS and CarPlay. Doing it this way makes it more seamless.
can you tell me the engineering mode code? and do you know why the microphone does not work on my mmb 11plus. neither with calls nor with google assistant nothing is heard the microphone does not work. Can you help me please

Hi, does this box has the possibility to add 4G? I know it doesn't have it internally, but would work with an USB dongle? I have an 2020 E-Klass without touch screen so I am limited in my options, since not many boxes supports the native car's controls. About that, do you have a recommendation for a box that connects to the car's carplay, and to the phone's android auto wirelessly and also that supports the car's controls ? Thank you!
@@CarPlayLife Android auto is the most important. I want it to connect and start playing without me doing a lot of operations like activating hotspot every time. On the other hand, if it is Android and has 4G, and the interface permits controlling it just with the car controls (no touch screen) then is fine an Android system too. But AA is the best option. Thank you very much.
@@wraymogg So this dongle tackles the Android OS a little differently from other dongles. In that, it closes off or limits the Android OS settings area, so you can't dive deep into the dongle's settings as much as others like CarlinKit TBox etc. I doubt you could plug in a 4G USB dongle into this and have it work, although I guess you could power it and connect and configure it from an App and not through the dongle interface. So that route might be possible and the dongle would connect to that for internet access for android apps running on it. A lot of makers use Mercedes to test these dongles, many use control knobs to interact so many do support control knobs as well as a touch screen, but I would find that a little bit of a pain to use compared to touch screen. If Wireless AA is more important and you have a CarPlay display system, then the Ottocast U2-X isn't too bad, but I don't know the longevity of its performance for Android specifically. There is also the AAWireless dongle, but I don't know much about these dongles and if it works with CarPlay systems or AA systems to enable wireless functionality. As AA goes, we are only starting to see this more widely supported, so I am sure we will see a lot more dongles with wireless AA support over the coming year.

Hello, My brother and I recently bought an MMB 11 Plus (Android 11) everything works flawlessly for my brother, while for me there are problems with the sound when listening to music on UA-cam via the Android application and also bluetooth. i also tried with Latest Update: January 19th 2022 and nothing better. :/ Car: AUDI A5 2018/19
@@CarPlayLife No, he has Mercedes GLE 2019. when I put the sound on mute and then on again its better, but after a few seconds it’s the same problem with sound rustling.
@@tonykrasnic273 OK so a big difference in systems, so I would chalk this down as compatibility with your Audi. Both BMW and Audi have compatible hurdles that these dongles have to try and overcome. This is why they use to ask for your manufacturer when ordering, but they don't do this with the 11 Plus. The rustling noise could be the cable, if you can try your brother's cable, the audio might improve, as it could be poorly shielded. I assume you have tried each other's in the other vehicle to be sure it's not your dongle that a faulty?
@@CarPlayLife as you wrote that the problem is in the cable, it's true how the cable at the mmb connection starts to move or it moved by driving car it starts to happen. it also goes hard in the box. I also replaced the cable with another one from phone and the same problem. I'm sorry I haven't tried my brother or another car because my brother lives in another country, but those I know don't have carplay

@@patrickarseneault7407 good point. Some dongles like this can run the update whilst plugged into the wall. Have you tried powering it and running the HDMI into a monitor or TV? And update it that way?
I wish someone would release the software so I could bring my own device (something super powerful) like a NUC or a Nvidia Shield TV stick or something
Thanks! To add files, you can either copy them over from a USB drive that's inserted in the USB-A port. Or if you download the Dec 22 update, this allows you to plug it into a PC (mac isn't supported), and after a few minutes the dongle should come up as a separate drive. Going in there has folders that you can upload files into.

@@CarPlayLife great review mind.....to be honest I've tried 3 different boxes and all have had different issues, will just plug the phone in from now on no issues doing it this way
I have bought this particular device after watching this review and another review on UA-cam, but unfortunately it doesn’t work the way it’s been demonstrated here! I connected to my car PSM and couldn’t use the volume on my car, it totally stopped operation of the sound volume in my car, the Bluetooth keeps disconnecting, connected to WiFi, but can’t use the WiFi as it says not connected but in the settings is clearly connected! The time zone doesn’t work! Numerous problems and issues I had. Just wondering if these reviews are actually true and showing what really the products are?! The way reviews are showing here, seems there are no issues and everything is perfect but that’s not true, far from it! I initially bought same device from a U.K. seller and had to return it for full refund and bought another one from MMB and had all these issues and totally lost confidence in this! This product is not fit for the market as it is not developed properly!! Wondering if these reviews are real and honest!
Sorry you’ve been having trouble with this dongle Daniel. But I take anyone saying my reviews aren’t genuine to heart. I can’t defend any other reviewers on UA-camrs that are also covering this dongle, but for me, I will say if it’s terrible or not. In fact I wouldn’t be covering it at all if it didn’t work as you described. I would be telling them it’s not fit for review and I wouldn’t cover it until it was. But the fact here is what you see in my videos is what you get. The only exception is speed, with video cuts I have to keep the video flowing, actual waiting times and moments of figuring things out are cut because that just wouldn’t make good viewing as you watching me wait for downloads, entering commands etc. It just sounds like this dongle just isn’t compatible with your make and model. What is that btw? So if anyone else watching who has the same setup should be a little cautious in buying the same dongle.
Did it work with your pioneer? This had always been my question because i have a kenwood and always see they dont work with aftermarket headunits 😒

On time stamp 1:03 what is the CarPlay display you attached the MMB box to. Is it the Coral Vision?
PS Excellent review.
Yes, this is the coral vision lite display
ua-cam.com/video/2oYSMDRo0gQ/v-deo.html
Thanks for sharing the tip and thanks for watching
Great review. So in order to do anything fist thing would be to connect to phone hotspot?
Once you see it’s menu interface on your CarPlay display, if you want to download or use most apps that needed internet you’ll need to connect the dongle to a WiFi hotspot

Hello, i have a Mercedes A160 (W177 from 2020). It has Carplay, but the service is not enabled. Does the service have to be activated for the MMB box or does it work without the service? Thank you in advance
Your car system needs to be able to display CarPlay for this to connect and display on to the same system. It doesn’t unlock it.
Great video and device. Do you know if there's any of these CarPlay Android boxes that has both Android11 + 4G/LTE SIM card slot? Most of them have Android 9 or 10 only...
This is the only android 11 dongle I know of right now. I’m sure we will see more in time yet most seem to be releasing with 10 at the moment.
which one do you recommended, the MMB 11 plus or the Carlinkit V3?
MMB had a nicer more thought about UI. Both are fairly spec’d the same but the V3 or TBox MINI is better spec’d for wireless WiFi connections and has 8 core over the 4 core on the MMB
I just had the device,
You mentioned all the advantages for it but also have some disadvantages at least for me
*There is a noticeable lag in some apps like youtube and google map.
What AI box do you recommend at the moment thats fast mostly lag free and stable?
I'm using ford sync 3
CarlinKit tbox max right now.
@CarPlay Life Thank you, have a car that only has iphone capability and wanted something so I can use android too.
If you just want android auto on CarPlay a 2in1 is a cheaper option.
@CarPlay Life Do you have any suggestions, it's for a Mini F56? Thanks again. 🙂
I like the hdmi aspect as well
The 11 Plus has been more refined, so it will be better than the 9, for sure.
What are you thoughts between this MMB box and Ottocast U2 Plus? Which does better? Less crashes?
They each have their quirks. The U2 Plus runs android 9 while MMB 11 runs android 11 and has a better UI. Both have same CPU but a different GPU. I’d go with the MMB 11 out of these two.

hi mate great review, can you connect wireless carplay and use your phone hotspot at the same time ? i have the android 11 4g + 64gb version and i have to disconnect hotspot if i want wireless car play
Sadly you can’t do that. Wireless CP needs WiFi as does your hotspot. So one would cancel out the other.

Hi there,
Very good review of this dongle. Can you please recommend me the best dongle at this date for Android Auto?
Thanks in advance!
Do you mean for an android auto only car system, or for use with android auto on a CarPlay system?
@@CarPlayLife Hi,
Thanks for replying.
The dongle needs to plugged into the CarPlay port so it can’t be plugged in elsewhere. I hope I’ve understood you correctly.
Thanks for your amazing review. Can I have your opinion in between MMB 11 & Carlinkit Box? Many thanks 🙏
Purely based on overall performance of the android platform, the CarLinkit tips it for me.
@@CarPlayLife Thanks, any others function or feature is better in MMB 11 (except the HDMI output) that you will buy a MMB instead?🤔
@@survlok not really. Even the android settings are locked away so customisation and basic android features can’t be accessed.
So, just to confirm is this for iPhone only..?? Or will it work with an Android phone (s10)....?

Most can be controlled with buttons on the wheel. As for reverse cams. It’s unlikely because they can’t connect to the dongle. You need an android headunit for things like that.

I don’t think a dongle is going to work with these cameras. You kinda want something a little more integrated, like an android headunit that can work with CANBUS or something and interact with the camera feed. Maybe a discussion with a local car installer might point you in the right direction.
Question... are you able to connect a dab+ usb into the media box also?
Most of the time these usb a ports are for upgrading or usb media. They don’t usually work with other peripherals. So it would be 50/50 if this would work with them. I don’t have one available to try.

Yes you can’t have personal mobile hotspot and wireless CarPlay running from the same phone together, both require WiFi and it isn’t able to share both IN and OUT sadly. Hi,
1-Does it support all networks 2.4G /4G/5G?
2- Does it install a data SIM or not?
3- Is this device the best version for cars with sound quality, image and speed?
4- Does it support Arabic language?
Sorry for the late response on this, I only just fired the dongle back up to check
1. 3G/4G, no 5G
2. No data sim slot on this dongle so you have to use personal hotspot from phone or a mi-fi device
3. They all sound pretty good, speed depends on chipset inside and RAM, the more the better/faster
4. I think it does yes.

How do you get out of CarPlay once you’ve entered it?
Tap the home app icon
Can you do split screen? Like have netflix playing on one side and nav on the other
I couldn’t work this out. There is an icon for it but doesn’t do split screen. More like an app manager overview.
Can you connect a wireless controller via Bluetooth?
Please review the new version ApplePie mini EVO, and it's called ApplePie mini 2
It looks like the same but compatible with mini evo and Toyota brands 🤔
Instead of using a wifi hotspot, can you do usb tethering through the USB 3.0 port?
I’m not sure if android OS supports this. Also I think the usb is solely for media playback and updating.
@@CarPlayLife it's similar how you can plug your Android phone into a laptop for USB tethering. There is Bluetooth tethering but I think I'll opt for one of the boxes you reviewed that has a sim slot.
@@ELCapiTRAN yes the sim slot ones will give you more options to connect. Sim is more reliable too.
How do you remove the annoying revving animation? I am only seeing a setting to disable the sound and how do you move icons to different pages?
You can’t remove the animation. Only it’s sound. I think this is to mask the boot up time it needs to start up the menu interface.
I am pretty sure you can move the icons with a tap and hold, then drag gesture.
@@CarPlayLife Latest firmware at least allows animation change and custom animation and at least masks the loading screen as well but for the dragging and moving icons only on same page apparently which I find very silly of MMB.
@@jasonzammit3965 yeah that’s a shame
It's not working with my Jeep compass 2018 any setting required plz suggest
If it doesn’t come up at all on your CarPlay display then this is a compatibility issue. Contact MMB for further help with this.
I was able to move the music panel between pages, but at the time I didn't try moving specific apps.
Does this work with Chevy Impala 2016 LT?
Sorry I don’t know.
Could you download third party apps on the MMB 11.0 if so what's process? Thanks in advance.
It’s as simple as heading over to Google play app. Browsing and downloading apps there. To side load apks there’s an APK installer which will install downloaded or apps from a connected usb drive
its compatible with mi PIONEER screen of my car?
If it has CarPlay it’s possible
@@CarPlayLife yes it have CarPlay
hi, I have same system, can't find reset button - it seems to just stick on the New series screen on boot up.
Another super detailed review video as always!
😊 Thank you 🙏🏻
Will this unit be supported with updates for more than 6 months?
@@Das_Tipples I’d say at least for 6 months. But something you might want to confirm with them before buying if that’s a major concern
Can you make a video on how to flash this device I am currently unable to update my one
That’s two now asking this. Once there is an update out I’ll consider it.
@@CarPlayLife thanks man !
So the tray opens but it doesn’t display anything? So are you looking at a blank bar?
@@CarPlayLife on the Carlinkit device it opens, but shows "no notifications." And notifications fail to display. I tried posting a notification with Tasker and nothing happened. No sound or popups work. I can't decide if I should return it or not because of that and the fact that the navigation guidance in Maps seems to be broken as well. 🙄
@@BrianCalderon If an update doesn't fix this issue I would maybe return it for something else that might work.
@@CarPlayLife there were a few updates and the notifications were still disabled. I am thinking that it's intended to not permit notifications. I've sent it back to return it. But the original question still remains, does the box in the video allow or have working notifications and the notification tray accessible???
Do steering wheel controls work?
I’m sure most of them do.
Beware, mine stopped working after 4 months… their support sucks ballz, I tried getting help for months but never received any responses. When plugged in through USB, the status light just keeps blinking and the car says it’s an unrecognized device. $390 paper weight… had it in a 2019 Durango SRT.
Sorry to hear this. Support like this is across the board with most brands. Did you try updating it to see if it kicks in? Worth a try
@@CarPlayLife And are you referring to this model or a previous one?
This one the MMB 11. They are releasing an update in the next 1-2 months with better specs. But right now, in my experience, they all haven’t been that great in screen mirroring video to the CarPlay screen from an android device. It’s always pixelated and generally not a great experience. For best case you need to play media off a usb drive or streamed from an app installed on the box itself.
@@CarPlayLife Thank you. I am now a subscriber.
Does this only work for touch screen cars
I believe these work with dial controls also
DIGI DASH 3.0 - would be great to see a review from you with this one. Thank in advance!
This looks like a rebranded Aurora dongle I reviewed a few months ago here

Do you recommend this one on carlinkit AI box
Your personal opinion. I'm confused
It all depends what you want out it. For me performance is paramount and the CarLinkit has more power under the good to make it a better, smoother experience.
I have plugged in the box to a laptop but it’s not being recognised as a usb drive any tips on what I might be doing wrong

Because the tray in my car where the mmb box goes cannot close with the supplied cable plugged in
Yes that should work. Just make sure it’s both data and power usb c cable.
@@CarPlayLife thank you very much for your reply. that's good to know.
They had me thinking the one supplied with the unit was kind of "special" lol - as it seemed somewhat more bulky around the heads, compared to other cables
@@CarPlayLife Got one now, from Amazon, delivered today... works a treat! So the tray now closes neatly. Cool!
Awesome!
I can’t seem to get out of CarPlay to the Home Screen I couldn’t see what you pressed to do it .
@@rstyleuk sorry I’m not sure on that one

Thank you!
Is the android OS important to you or is wireless CarPlay and android auto more important?
As AA goes, we are only starting to see this more widely supported, so I am sure we will see a lot more dongles with wireless AA support over the coming year.
also can't get it to work on my carplay unlocked vw T6 - any ideas ?
You could also try it on a different CarPlay system to try and get it out of that loop.

@@CarPlayLife no
@@psjfree9974 ok so this won’t work on it. You need a wired CarPlay system first.
Does anyone know how to set the time on this box - without having to be online??
I find that unless it is online connected to your phone hotspot or similar it shows a wrong time starting from 08:00 which is REALLY annoying!
This is a common issue with some aI boxes. Usually fixed via the OS settings menu but MMB seems to lock access to this out 🤷🏻♂️
@@CarPlayLife thanks for your reply! Most times I don't even want to or need to be online... so that makes it really annoying.
And if you contact them, it is so hard to get a reply. For example one important issue I asked them they never answered until I came across the solution on one of these UA-cam comments on this box!
Greetings, I have this device but it doesn’t work on Jeep Grand Cherokee 2022
When you have Spotify running in android, and make a call from iPhone with it connected via Bluetooth I loose audio. No bluetooth audio and once you cancel call no more app audio. Reboot fixes it. Have you run into this? Hopefully they have an update to fix it.
Sounds like BT audio and WiFi audio is getting mixed up. Usually I would be running Spotify from CarPlay instead of in android.
Does this work on both Apple android phones
It’s a standalone device it doesn’t need a phone apart from giving it an internet connection via personal hotspot from the phone. Also unless you want to use it for wireless CarPlay or Android Auto.

Do you both have the same car and system?

To add files, you can either copy them over from a USB drive that's inserted in the USB-A port.
