Ketel Marte MVP and 2B gold glove: Marte is playing Gold Glove caliber second base to go along with his hitting prowess. He has +11 defensive runs saved at his position. That's a close second to Brice Turang, who has +14. Ohtani is strictly a DH in 2024. He's not played one inning of defense or thrown a single pitch. He's been terrific at the plate. He should not be given credit by voters however for years past when he both pitched and hit. WAR As Percent of Team Total; Marte Currently has 5.9 WAR. That is essentially the same as Ohtani, who has 6.0 WAR. When viewed through the lens of "value to his team", it's clear that Marte's performance has been even stronger than Ohtani's. Marte 5.9 / 25.4 D-backs WAR = 23% Ohtani 6.0 / 30.3 Dodgers WAR = 19% Clutch; Marte has far outperformed Ohtani when it's mattered most, in "High Leverage" situations. Marte 64 PA, .385/.438/.692, 1.133 OPS, 4 HR, 23 RBI Ohtani 85 PA, .278/.388/.444, .833 OPS, 2 HR, 18 RBI
Very surprised by the Padres & Diamondbacks closing in on the Dodgers (despite LA's injuries). Definitely did not see that coming. Katel Marte has been amazing. Same thing in the AL Central with the Guardians feeling some pressure from the Twins & Royals.
The problem with Marte is that he doesn’t really have players that will do his kind of consistently average of scoring and also having on base percentages to advance the chances of the Dbacks to win, it has been a quite slow start this season for the Dbacks but they are slowly going back to their contact winning style like they did last season.
offence and defence must be accounted for MVP since earning and saving runs are mutually respected. mvp is not kpop idol contest, but who is the most valuable player. in the case of Football/Soccer, it is simply defined who brings the club to win so Cristiano Ronald will be easily named. but, MLB mvp is more like popularity contest since no one brings the club to win.
John misunderstanding the "analytics don't care about the score" criticism is so on-brand. Analytics do care about the score/game situation. Instead John goes on here talking about how the score is important in strategy as if both the old-school and new-school philosophies dont acknowledge that.
Ozuna is without question the MVP. He has been consistent all season. Has anyone watched Ohtani the last few weekends?? Absolutely awful. Hasn’t squared up a fastball in weeks. Got lucky on a few hanging cb’s. Either strikes out or rolls over. I hope he’s just tired because he keeps getting worse. .243 with RISP and 2 for his last 50 something with 2 strikes. No way he deserves MVP unless he turns it around toward playoffs. His OBP also dropping like a rock. I want to see him crush it but it doesn’t look good!
If Edgar Martinez , David Ortiz never won it with a a much better season and even worse team why othani? Ok he is Japanese !! The mlb is a business !! Ketel is much valuable to his team than órgano to the dodger !!!
I agree his stats are not on par with big hurt, Ortiz, Edgar. But it’s always relative. This year the competition is not there. A good DH could definitely win.
If Sho joins the 40 40 club then he will win MVP.

Marte was on a team that went to a World Series so it goes both ways of how good teams already were from last year

On a different subject, looks like your bro is about to start rehab assignment this weekend or early next week. Woohoo !!!!!! Go Stros !!!!!!!!!!
The Houston Astros are inevitable. Ben should copyright that phrase.😆🤣

Please explain the possibility of Shohei's two-sword revival playoffs🎉
Thank you all for watching!! Means a lot
No problem! A very good video with John Smoltz
@@Ben_Verlander As much as I disliked Smoltz back in the Stros NL days guy knows the game and what he's talking about.

Ohtani dropping like a rock. Looks like a minor leaguer last 3 weeks. Either hurt or just choking. I think he’s hurt or fatigued
how is he fatigued since he doesn't play defense?

Ortiz on PED's, lol.
Ortiz on PED'S! 😂
I swear LA bias is ridiculous. Shohei is going to win a million mvps. As a DH he is not more valuable than Ketel Marte this year.
DH should not win MVP. Never happened before, please don’t make an excuse for Ohtani. 😅
😂😂😂
Because it triggers you
Cry more.
Like one player should not be selected to ASG as both pitcher and DH? Some people seem to hate something unprecedented being done.
@@RunForPeace-hk1cu ....Ohtani is only playing half the game.
