    EC switches don't use magnets, rather the pcb houses a capacitive sensor which detects slight variations in electricity when you put your finger on a keycap. More or less, these work the same way as the touchscreen on your phone.

    Funny enough I heard that these actually feel better than Topre switches. I think the 45g option would be better as 35g may be too light, but I have to try it out to find out.

    Technically, electro-capacitive keyboard ARE mechanical since they have a part-way actuation mechanism.
    Rubber dome and membranes do not automatically disqualify a keyboard being mechanical.

      If you get the Atom 68, any Standard MX-compatible caps will work so long as the set supports 65% keyboards. It used to be tough to find sets that supported that layout, but it has become a lot more common now even in cheap Chinesium sets (thankfully).
      If the set has a 1.75u right shift, you should be golden.
      That's about as small as you can go for dedicated arrow keys until it starts being hard to find caps that fit.
      35g Niz is only very lightly tactile, just so you know. Probably the closest thing to MX brown I would ever like, since it is wonderfully smooth and pleasant.

  • @lawbinson
    @lawbinson 3 роки тому +4

    I really like the Niz Atom 68 with Bluetooth. It is one of the rare 65% multi-device bluetooth options that feel and sound great out of the box. It’s my most recommendable office/work board since almost anyone will like them without much getting used to. Although, I’d still recommend the HHKB Hybrid line-up for someone more willing to give the HHKB layout a try and have the disposable income to do so.

      @@lawbinson Ahh awesome that's good to know. Btw do you have the 35g one? If you do, how do they feel in comparison to the lighter mechanical key switch? Like a cherry mx red, or they noticably light from that to a point where you accidentally press on the keys due to the weight of the finger alone or does it not actually do that?

    • @lawbinson
      @lawbinson 3 роки тому +1

      @@ishraqmirza2724 I liked my 35g and while the feather touch was interesting for a while, I eventually felt it was too light personally and added the springs. I almost felt like having to bring my own fingers back up was more tiring. 35g is lighter than Reds, so if you rest your fingers on them, you might accidentally press them until you get used to it. With the springs or at 45g, they’re more similar to a quiet Red with a soft bottom out and extremely extremely light tactility at the top of the keypress if you press down slowly. I stick to MX for gaming, but generally prefer EC (Niz or HHKB) for everything else.
      My girlfriend liked it as well so I gave the 35g to her and bought the 45g. Because of the springs, it’s probably more interesting to be able to try the 35g (something you can’t really get anywhere else). But if you know you are someone with a heavier typing style and the 45g is available, I would go for that one. Then you can use the springs to make them 55g.

    • @ishraqmirza2724
      @ishraqmirza2724 3 роки тому

      @@lawbinson Yeah I might go for the 45g model. I'd imagine they'd feel very nice too? Yeah I'm trying to look for a keyboard for everything whether it's gaming or typing so this but 45g sounds like a pretty good option.

      @@apatheliac I own it, and modded the membranes using Deskeys Des-Domes 49g purples. it feels night and day compared to the regular domes it comes with, but the dome film you get isn't bad at all considering its a topre clone. I bought it from Harum.io, and like a week and a half later I got it. it types like pressing a keycap into a latex pillow, or pressing a keycap into a marshmallow kind of. It's also super quiet, but it still kind of picks up on headsets if you're close enough. hope this helps, and I wouldn't sleep on it. it's such a nice experience from topre keyboards without the extravagant price of a real topre. yes it has bluetooth, but I don't use it.
