Mammoth Lakes Fishing Trip May 2024 | Part 1

I had the good fortune to be invited up to Mammoth over this Memorial Day weekend for a 5 day fishing trip. First off I have never stayed in Mammoth. I’ve never seen Mammoth Lakes. I’ve only driven through the area. Secondly, I haven’t gone fishing for over 30 years. Luckily, my good friends are adamant fishermen and visit Mammoth several times a year. So I jumped at the chance to see Mammoth in the springtime. The ski season is officially over on Memorial Day, while the boating season officially starts so it was a great time to see the transition. There was still snow on the ground at higher elevations. The lakes were magnificent and pristine. The air quality remarkable. I truly felt transported. All of our days were from dawn to dusk with activity and I even caught a couple fish, albeit small trout, but better than I expected all things considered. Anyone visiting California should place Mammoth at the top of their list for ambience alone. There’s nothing quite like a mountain adventure, much less lake fishing on a mountain. The views were nothing short of spectacular. The weather was a bit unpredictable, but generally milder than I had expected. It was both an exhilarating experience while at the same time relaxing. Communing with nature, however cliche, is not to be passed up. Grab those opportunities.
My friend’s family member had a beautiful, comfortable and impeccably styled mountain vacation home up in Mammoth. Luxury living for our stay. It was gorgeous. Nestled in the forest, on a mountain, beside a babbling stream. It’s fairytale stuff or possibly a work of fiction, but I saw it and lived it and it fed my soul.
I recorded every day of our trip. There’s plenty of ups, a lot of comedic obstacles and mishaps, and a great deal of friendship. Life is difficult. Life on a mountain on vacation is always doable. It was a fantastic, interesting and enriching experience.
Part 1 is our drive up from Southern California. Our stop at the famous Dutch bakery, Erick Schat’s Bakery where we grabbed lunch to go. A tour of our first lake Crowley Lake. A view of the home we stayed at thanks to generous, kind people. Thank you if you’re reading this and a look around the area we were staying. My friend’s husband and nephew went straight out to fish after we arrived at 11:30am so my friend Brookie and I explored. You may have seen Brookie in other adventure or funny videos.
In any event, if you wondered what Mammoth is like or what it’s like in the Spring, please follow along as I will publish the 5 days we spent at Mammoth Lakes and what we did on our trip.
