Start to Finish build - Leonardo da Vinci Flapping Wing

- This is a large, (18” high x 32” long x13” wide) scale model of Leonardo da Vinci’s design to test the lift capacity of his wing. The wing, structures, and base are made from solid Sapele wood, and the terrain base is made from rigid foam detailed to look like da Vinci's natural landscape as drawn. In the original notes, da Vinci explains testing the lift capacity of his wing by having a 200 libbre, (approx. 150 pounds) block of wood under the wing itself. A person would then jump on the long handle, using their weight to lift the block off the ground.
Just a note, this is not a kit, this is a hand built by me, Bill Huffman in my shop outside of Seattle.
This model moves as designed by Leonardo, but care is needed as the model is not permanently fixed to the base per design. Wood anchor points are imbedded in the base with corresponding hidden holes under the model so it is secure but not glued down permanently.

My dad had a saying, "Jack of all trades, master of none". I think your a master at whatever your working on.
That is incredible, Bill. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Scott!!! I think so many things are interesting, it's hard to just ignore them. I love woodworking and building miniatures, both in plastic and wood. I had always built plastic models as far back as I can remember, but it was never my only interest. When we bought our first house years ago, I had half the garage to do a proper shop and the first tool I bought was a craftsman table saw and that was it, I was hooked!!! Take Care, Bill.
Well that was so neatly done. Thanks again Bill......
