Oh, I was wondering about that. Im glad you're considering that!
I think it was Scott who mentioned this for the first time but maybe a spiny bottom, so that when they’re playing players can just gently spin it rather then have to get up and walk around. Either way, whatever you come up with is gonna be beautiful!
Oh wow! You’ve been busy. That’s a lot of milling! Did you add mirrors to the backs of some of the display cabinets or is it just a strong reflection?
Looks great 👍🏻 hopefully you work something out with the barrels maybe more browns and layering
Dude what the hell I wanna tour your workshop so badly😂😂😂
Thanks!!! It's my favorite place!!! Herer's a walkthrough from last year. ua-cam.com/video/ruyU-MsWm7Q/v-deo.html I hope you have a great day!!! Take Care, Bill
Man this shit is so cool
Thanks Josh!!! I really appreciate you commenting. Take care, Bill
Sounds like a great idea Bill. I'm sure, with your woodworking skills, you'll knock it out of the park.
Thanks Scott!!! The wood has to acclimate for a while, I need to let it rest for a bit then some more planing on the Sapele. I'm doing it for the display, but also for the shelves above the modeling bench. Its sat all summer and I'm finally stepping into it. Take care, Bill
Teeny weeny parts! 😊😊
Hi Angela!!!I have a small cigar box with all the little parts I need to do for the Alchemists lab and I can't wait to start placing them in the diorama, but I still haven't figured out the mechanics for the gate, so I'm just bopping around the rest of the diorama working on stuff until I figure that bit out. I hope you are having a great day!!! Take Care, Bill
@@ScaleModelCraft I’m so excited you already know all the tiny little things that you put in there are my favourite part. And this was so exciting to get to watch from the very beginning this time. Love it.
I absolutely love that office. I would get absolutely no work done, id spend too long just gazing at everything
Thanks!!! Its is distracting at times when I need to get stuff done, but for thinking up whacky stuff to build, its the best!!! I hope you have a great week!!! Take Care, Bill
Woah man, that's looks amazing!
Thanks Jacob!!! Ive got a bunch of wood milled for the display stand so its actually getting close to finish...I say that but it could still be a month or two...Take Care, Bill
Irrepressible Huffman 👍👍👍
Hey John!!!! Great to see you!!! I hope typos are well. I did some wood prep last night for the display stand for this so it's actually moving forward!!! Take care John!!! Bill
maybe like a dark brown reddish wash to help tie all the browns together
I think you hit it, I needed some orangish or reddish tones and I didn't have any. I also thought I got sloppy on the iron bands so I reshot and will give it another try today. Thanks again for commenting, Take care, Bill
Well Bill, not to brag on my talents, but they look way better than I could accomplish. Needless to say they look great. I know you have your own standards and want to do the best you can. I had a great time Sunday, I have been having problems with my phone though. Draining really quick and taking forever to charge. Sorry it caused an untimely end to our conversations. Please extend my apologies to John for me. I really enjoyed it.
It was great having you on Scott, and those type calls really drain the heck out of your battery even if it's brand new. Loved the stories of your hearse and working on cars, can't wait to have you on again! Take care Sir!!! Bill
@@ScaleModelCraft Thank you for having me. I've trying to send you a picture of the hearse, but, I'm having trouble doing that. I'll work it out.
Do you really need to start over? They don’t look that bad to me. Some more dark wash and bit of rust maybe.
Hi Winston, I think its the iron bands that are bugging me even more than the wood. I want them to be crisp, and I think they were a bit sloppy, and when I went back and looked an my barrel references, it lacked a reddish or orange tone that I hadn't included. I reshot them last night and will see about today. I hope you are well, Take care, Bill
The miniature barrels are so cute!
Hi Joyce!!! I agree, these are going to look really great in the basement. I hope you are well, Take care Bill
Looking good, Bill. I have to tell you I enjoy how much you enjoy life. Have a great week!!
Thanks Link!!! I just love what I'm doing, and can't wait to do more each morning!!!! I hope you have a great week Link, and I'm looking forward to your next video!!! Take care, Bill
Looking great! Good afternoon!
Hello Angela!!!! I hope you are well and enjoying this great Monday!!! It's going to be a great week and I hope you enjoy the heck out of it!!!! Take Care, Bill
Looks incredible!!!
Thanks Very Much!!! I hope you have a great week ahead of you!!! Take Care Bill
Awesome bro good building job, is it a old house
Hi, Thank you very much!!! It's a 6 level playable D&D Diorama. It has 4 levels above ground and 2 below. It's based on a favorite Fantasy book by Raymond E. Feist, "Magician" that I first read in the 80's. It's all scratch built and meant to be fun and something you can play a tabletop adventure game on. Thanks for commenting and checking it out, Take care, Bill
@@ScaleModelCraft oh that's super cool looks like fun
It already looks fantastic. Looking forward to what this looks like all furnished will those cool minis. You did a great job on that stone work. Thanks for sharing as always Bill, it should be another awesome week!
Thanks Wister!!! I love the pattern I can get with the punches, and I just used some light washes on them and like how it's subtle and not too drastic in the color changes. I really think it will look good with some lighting down there, which brings up a huge issue...How and I going to get lighting to this when it's all stacked, then unstack it to play? I have universal connectors that I can plug and unplug, but I dont want it to be clunky. I hope you have a wonderful week Wister!!!! Take care, Bill
Incredible work!
Thanks!!! It took 9 months and almost as long to edit these videos!!!! Take care, Bill
Can’t wait to see how you do these. 👍👍👍
Thanks John!!! I got them base painted tonight and a coat of wash to start bringing out details. I think they will be fun to paint, and should look really cool in the basement. Take care John!!! Bill
The fact, I only just realized it’s Sunday. 😭 what is my life?
I completely get it, the livestream is my only marker!!! That and football games, gotta have priorities!! Take care, Bill;
Oooooo barrels can't wait to see the painted versions
Hey Shane, I think by the time I get to the last one, I’ll have to go back and repaint the first one😉 Take care, Bill
I bet whatever you did came out looking cool. Can’t wait to see it and good morning.
That’s awesome! Keep up the good work👌👌
Thanks very much Tombcaller!!! Take care, Bill
Inspired and fascinating work, with so many realistic details, thumbs up!!!!!!
Thank You Phil!!! I loved detailing this one, I imagined all the movie versions of a secret lab, that are totally unrealistic, but fun to look at!!! I hope you are well, Take care, Bill
Bill you are the master of detail and intricate building. 👍👍👍
Thanks John!!! You are one of my best inspirations!!! Take Care, Bill
I remember that Time Team episode and Tony and Phil’s reaction to the flamethrower firing. Impressively frightening. Your dioramas have a level of detail that I find exceptional. They frankly belong in a museum. Please keep on making and showing these works. They (and you) rock!
Thanks Linda!!! That was one of the best parts when they were shocked by the heat, and they were so far away!!! Thank you again for being so nice. I think they would be fun to display in a museum. I just really like building these and I'm so happy that people like them. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!! Take care, Bill
You need a cam
Thanks Cheddar!!! I 100% agree, I want to be able to open the gate, then let it stay open, but the wheel will still be turning so I need some way to disengage power, and thats just what I can't quite figure out. I'm using ropes, (really nice scale ones) so it will look period, but I need like some lever with an idler that will lock in or out so I can tension and then release tension on the ropes driving the gate closed. I think I'm getting closer, I have another friend that suggested I have a counterweight, so I just have to open it, then the counter weight closes it again, so I think that's a pretty great idea, and I can have the counterweight in the room so it looks cool...so that's where I'm at with it. Thanks a bunch for commenting, and hope you have a great weekend!!! Take care, Bill
Dude you are so far in the future, awesome work.
Thank You Alex!!! That's really kind and I appreciate it. I hope you have a great weekend!!! Take Care, Bill
hi Bill 👋Thank you for the great video and the story behind it👍... ...that's how I started watching your channel🤗... ...still the most beautiful diorama for me😍 Wish you and your family all the best👋😊
Hello Benny!!! It's wonderful to hear from you and I appreciate your kind words!!! I have more videos on the WW1 Trench Diorama coming up! Thank you again for such a nice comment, I hope you and your family also have a wonderful weekend!!! Take care, Bill
Gear with teeth and a ratchet might work
Thanks Paul!!! I didn't want to do a gear, but I do think that might have to happen. Wood gears of this size are a bit tricky, its fine with plywood, but I want something that will look more period, so I can do my own glue up of pieces, so it looks better that plywood. Yup, just might have to do that. Thanks for contributing!!! Take Care, Bill
@@ScaleModelCraft welcome maybe an idea will come to you after seeing the movements your model looks great by the way
This diorama really drew me into scale modeling-I love the storytelling and attention to detail that goes into these projects. I’ve always been fascinated by WWI and WWII because of the stories my great-grandparents and grandfather told me in person. For my first diorama, I’m recreating a story my grandfather (born in 1935 and still alive to see this) shared about a P-51 that crashed into a wheat field near his home when he was 7 in 1943. The pilot survived and was hidden in the basement of locals, kept safe from both the Germans and Nazi sympathisers. I’m excited to bring this piece of family story to life!
Wow!!! Thank You, I'm so happy I inspired some portion of this, and that sounds like a really wonderful story to create!!! I also think the family connection is so important, because that's going to come through you as you build, and that's something no-one else can infuse into it. I'm really excited to see it and would be honored to show any update pictures as you build on my weekly livestream. I'm not sure where you are skills wise, but if I can offer any assistance by way of technique, please ask. Thank you again and I hope you have as much fun building it as I do!!! Take care, Bill
@@ScaleModelCraft Thank you, Bill, for the kind words! I'm still a beginner, and tutorial videos have been a great help. Right now, I'm in the process of planning the diorama - thinking about what I need, how it will look, and its size. I'm also doing research on the location where it happened, using pictures of the area where my grandfather lived, along with pictures of the P-51. I'd love to share the progress of my adventure with you. Is there a way to stay in contact, like via Discord or email? Kind regards, Glenn
Hi Glenn, Yes, my Patreon has Discord , but you can also contact me from the UA-cam Contact tab. Looking forward to see your progress. Take care, Bill
got any spots left for your game? lmao asking for a friend
That's Awesome!!! I do want to do an online game with it when it's done, but I've never lead a game so I really need to start reading up. When I get there tell your friend you got them a seat!!! Take care, Bill
Sir needs go brush up on ICE(internal/combustion/engines)
I have seen those videos of miniature running engines and I would love to build something with one of those in it!!!! Thanks for commenting, Take care, Bill
Great video, Bill, thanks for sharing. Take care, Link!!
Thanks Link!!! I really loved building this one!!! Take care Sir!!! Bill
A fascinating look into the construction processes of this diorama. Having missed most of its construction (i started watching your channel near the end of its production and before your DND diorama) these videos are great insight into how it all came together. The amount of detail in this diorama is crazy cool. That story of the underground flamethrower is amazing. Thanks for including that Bill, great stuff as always. Your passion for your projects and the stories you have to tell, your wonderful attitude and personality really brings it all together man, you can just tell you love what do you and you seem like a wonderful person and people really connect with that and want to be apart of it. I just love seeing it come together and giving a few comments on things.
Thank You Wister!!! That's so incredibly nice of you to say, and I am thrilled that you like the projects that I build. I have a bunch more that I want to build, so I hope I can keep making them interesting. Thank you again and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!! Take care, Bill
Hello!
Hi!!! Thanks for watching!!! Take care, Bill
Great video Bill. Always touching to see Oscar.
Use a cam
Thanks!!! I definitely think a Cam has to be in there somewhere, it's the disengagement that I am trying to figure out. Although the waterwheel isn't moving, I want the mechanism to actually work when it does move, which means continuous rotation, and that's my big issue, I need to find a way to open the gate, let it stay open, then close the gate, all while the water wheel is just turning slowly along. It's that reversal of movement, and the ability to stop the movement to the linkage for the gate that I'm pretty suck on. Thanks again for the contribution, I really appreciate it as I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but in no way an engineer so this stuff isn't something I can just figure out on the spot, it takes a while. Take Care, Bill
Thanks for sharing your knowledge on modeling, currently working on a greenhouse for my mother's birthday gift. The grout idea is fantastic, I am also doing a slate floor for the landscape. Have you ever used Smooth grout? It's all I have on hand😅. Thanks again!
Thanks Ivanlara!!! I love greenhouses!!! I think the fine powdered grout will work similar to when I sift the sanded grout through a nylon. This just lets the finest powder from the grout through, and gives a very nice smooth terrain. If you have other questions, I'd be happy to help, as there are lots of things I use the grout for so it's one of my favorite materials. Take care, Bill
A cam 🤓
Thanks Tool Guy!!! I think a cam will be involved certainly, but it's the ability to disengage the rotational input of the waterwheel shat that is also a big sticking point. I'm thinking of an idler wheel that can apply tension to ropes, and then release it so the waterwheel shaft can rotate without engaging the cam, or linkage, but that's the part I am stuck on. Thanks a bunch for contributing!!! Tale Care Bill
“ Roll out the barrels, we’ll have a barrel of fun”😊
Hi John!!! I hope you are having a great weekend!!! Take care, Bill
I recommend a slider crank mechanism.
Thanks!! Is that where theres a keyed slide in the face of the gear that slides in an eccentric motion? Thank could work, but I think I would need a cam roller on the back to get the key to slide in a specific pattern. Great suggestion, I think it will end up being a combination of the ideas that folks are sending in, I really appreciate it!!! Take care, Bill
Barret's Coffee House? Raymond E. Feist?
Yup, My favorite Fantasy Author and primary inspiration for the diorama. I am mixing up a bunch of stuff. I am pulling stuff from lots of his books, but the setting is supposed to be Barrets, and across the street is Roo's warehouse, but its being shared by the upright man. It's a playable D&D Diorama. I hope you have a great day!!! Take care, Bill
@@ScaleModelCraft Love it! The Serpent War series is still my favourite storyline in all of the Riftwar Cycle... Damn, I think now I have to start reading it all again, and I'll have to morn Jimmy and Arutha all over again as well...
You need a wheel that has a drop groove. Like a circle slowly becoming an oval. Itll give you the lever kick motion you want. Its like an S and an O on the same flat area; kinda hard to describe but its like a knob dent for a wheel
Thanks!!! I think I know what you mean, is it like an interrupter gear? I am not an engineer so I'm trying to envision what your saying, but I do think in interrupter gear might be a good idea, Thanks!!! Take care, Bill
@@ScaleModelCraft it gets called a swivel sometimes. Its like a corkscrew where it has a slope building up and a drop off. Its not a very common part youll have to do some machinery investigation. Like as the followed path on the circle grows inward or outwards. And has a spot taken out so it drops down and usually back onto the rotation its like the center of the circle slowly grows like drawing an at symbol @
So you'd want a cam. Roughly an egg shape wheel that will push the lever with the rotation. To keep the gate/door open you would probably need a latch, which could be another piece of wood that drops behind the lever preventing it from opening back up. The issue being this would require a manual reset unless you use a pully that pulls latch back up/ out of place. However then you'd have the issue of the gate continuously opening and closing.
Afternoon bill. Haven't been able to catch the live cus work schedule so thanks for the reposts
Hi Shane, I hope you had a quick Friday at work!!! I really appreciate you watching!!! Take care, Bill
Looks good Bill. The barrels will look awesome once you get them painted, no doubt.
Thanks Scott!!! It's also the 3rd weekend of the month so I have the Patron Group Build this Sunday and I will send you an invitation to join. It's Sunday, 10am-1pm Pacific Time, and I can talk to you this afternoon after the livestream to see if it will work for you. Take care, Bill
Why did my mind think these where going in a reptile tank and the reptile was gonna be dressed up as a tank/knight or viking 😅
Thanks Great!!! That's really funny because I used to have a HUGE reptile tank in the corner of my living room with a red tailed boa!!! Many moons ago....Take care Bill
