The way the starters work is the button usually supplies ground to a relay, that the ECU controls which in turn supplies ground to the starter solenoid. But that wire you were getting 3 some odd volts is probably okay, that wire is most likely the ground supplied to the actual starter solenoid. In other words that wire gets grounded when you push the button, via the ECU and the relay it controls. .
He needs a "donut" amp volt reader like a multimeter but in the shape of a "donut' so you can measure draw, current around cables, etc.. invaluable tool....Canbus electronics are fussy, Ducati electronics are fussy .. could it be is an immobilizer issue all things being equal.. want to "recycle" the ECU ' disconnect the battery .. BOTH cables ..with light ons.. fortunately the 2003 > 999, 749 testastrettas all used auto type Canbus electrical systems.. tracking down electrical issues aren't too bad..vs the previous MY's which had 1 million fuses and relays.. that said, you have no clue what did the previous owners fudge up .aftermarket keys, ignition IIRC dealing w/ a stock dash, ECU .. ..ECU connector pin could be the issue.. shorted line, connector..does the engine S/N match frame ?? Ah.... Ducati ownership.. LOL
Those spacers you took out of the front fender are there for a reason, to keep the fender from cracking. You are missing some rubber washers (or you have the wrong grommets) that fit inside over the spacers, then your fully tighten the spacers and the fender floats ever so slightly. Go look in the parts book.. Just saying
I was rebuilding a wrecked ZX-14R also had same issue starting. The start switch and kill switch on the right clip on was rashed up so I replaced it and i replaced the tip over sensor and bike started right up. Sometimes it’s something simple that just gets overlooked due to thinking of all the possibilities the problem could be. Best of luck brother. God bless and I’m excited for the next one!
Yo check the operation of the side stand switch, clutch switch and neutral switch operation as they can all have an effect on the starter functioning. The ECU will turn off if the voltage drops below a certain value, something like 9.5V. So it is worth checking what the battery voltage is when you press the starter
I love this series! I just started an 848 build with just the forks and frame! I've wanted one since I saw them new in the dealer back 2010 but settled on a Monster instead due to my Military income budget.
Dudeeee when I see your videos on my main page, I am getting super excited about that 848 to get start. Can't wait to hear that beast, would be sooo much better with Termignoni system. KEEP GOING I BELİEVE İN YOU
Had the same problem with a Suzuki even got a new selonoid. The issue was the clutch lever sensor check for that or the leg sensor one of those is cutting power to the selonoid start
@@TheGrimmReaper1 The electrical system is a mess , the previous owner(s) added an aftermarket key set, ignition IIRC.. as the OEM was butcher during possible theft ..which sets off a even more issues... dash must be able to communicate with the ECU ignition, immobilizer, keys, etc. . and who knows what was wired, bridged , etc to get this bike to run..
The keys may not even have transponders in them I told him to get them read by a locksmith just to make sure but if the key frequency doesn't match the ecu it won't start anyway
Usually the key is coded to the ecu on jap bikes it may be different on Italian machines but if the key and barrel have been changed you would think the key transponder has to be programmed to match ??
Hi men. I think you a really good work on this bike. I'm gonna give u a advice to check any electric issue. If you have the opportunity to check the starter schematic, do it. But if you don't, just verifying one by one the signal that comes to the solenoid, every single wire that it's linked to the starting system, we know that the starter it's good. Best regards from COL.
These videos are super inspiring. Could you do a step-by-step video explaining what you do to source the bikes, parts, and uncommon tool recommendations?
i had an electrical gremlin a little while back that was causing a bunch of working parts to be burnt out eg. abs sensors etc, not sure if this will be valuable at all but the fix was a wiring loom replacement
you wanna start the bike, just connect the 2 bolt on solenoid with pliers. if the bike starts and running i guess the starter button. just check the color from starter switch, find the socket jumper again using cable the. socket must be plugged in to harness. sry if my english so bad
would seem to be a wiring issue check if that wire does not go to the ecu if it does then test from the ecu if you still get power then there is a issue inside the ecu where ground is supplied from the ecu the other code is that plug behind the cluster for a air temp sensor hopefully you find the issue would love to hear it start
Looks like an ecu ground issue. My bike had a battery polarity inversion by it's previous owner which has burnt ecu ground for starter command. You can try to start the bike with connecting + to solenoïd. If ecu is burnt youn can still diy with computer tool and diag interface. I just saw you have changed ecu, i think you have to switch off the immobilize. Ecu, key and dashboard have to geniuinly match, replace one of them and you must switch off immobilizer.
CJ... originally the Ducati 848 has ALL screws in BLACK, except the windscreen... so could you change the screws for the windscreen and make all black??? Thanks
i looked this up hopefully helped with that 4.1 Air temp sensor shorted to power supply 19.2 Starter solenoid shorted to ground Kind regards from a Belgian fan
Hey bro I had a similar issue with a Ducati monster, basically the ecu, gauge cluster and ignition all talk to eachother and sometimes after a bike sits for a long time you have the immobilizer issue, bike will not crank. I had a shop reflash my ecu and manually turn off the immobilizer and bike ran perfect!!
Yes they're so lucky over there. That Ducati he picked up for peanuts, ok parts are still expensive but overall cost is still alright.. Here in Australia these 848s even damaged cost at least 2x as much. And most times with a salvage title it's written off for good and cannot be registered ever again. It could only become a track bike. In the US everything is easy and possible..no crazy bureaucracy
You may have you said this before and I apologize if so. Where do you buy ur bikes? Are they strictly all auction bikes? I’ve been rebuilding motorcycles for awhile but usually local Facebook finds. As for ur auction bikes are you buying salvaged titles or clean? And how’s the resale value going for profit
Might sound stupid but did you try to pull the clutch when starting? Some bikes need that, my F4 does. Try it maybe.? Also if it is required to start the bike and it doesn't work, check the clutch lever switch .. I was yelling at my screen, PULL THE F..... CLUUUUUTCH ahahah
Its your ecu. !!!! Or your ecu ground is missing. I am really sure the ecu is the problem. 😊😊 It can also be the wrong mapping in the ecu. You need a iaw5 ecu. Those are used in 848 1098 1198. And the corect mapping. As you placed a new? Ecu. it should start unless you hooked it up without earth its fried. I stand with it, the ecu is the culprite 19.2 error os a common ecu starter fault. Oh and hookup the temp sensor its time to use jp diag (for computer/laptop)or tune ecu (android phone) and some vag can cable. For the next time just test the startersolenoid with a external batt +12v and - on the connector, if it clicks its okay.
Get a wiring diagram before you make any assumptions about the wiring. It will have the colors and the connections for each connector in the harness. Trust me, it will save you headaches when dealing with motorcycle electrical systems.

If the ecu doesn't see the correct transponder frequency it won't start the bike

This series of videos is killing me with anxiety, great sequel!!!
Thank you sir! No spoilers just yet but I'm sure you'll enjoy the next Ep!
Try and start the bike with the dash disconnected. Works with older Ducati's. God bless.
Cant. Because of the key recognision is in the dash. So the immo directly activated of dash is removed

I'd check cables for continuity, end-to-end, and neighbor cables on connectors. Easier if you have a wiring diagram. ✌
you are my inspiration, i work in the same business and you are awesome!!! Braziliean hereeeeee!!!!

Man CJ, I really was hoping to get to see that bike start. Sorry it didn't happen. Wait for it on the next video I hope. Keep up the good videos.
Great job cj my Ducati 899 has been at the shop for last 3 months with a similar problem, good luck 🤞 👍

As daft as it may sound some bike in the UK you need to pull the clutch in to start. Good luck. Loving the VLOGs 👍🏼
Here me out, do a budget build on a late 90's early 2000's bike. Set a budget and stay under it. Like 954rr. Love your work though!

Man I wasn’t really a fan of sports bike but I think I’m coming around. Love your vids please do a cruiser
Really enjoying this mini build series
Wawoo CJ you are Rock
Amazing background music 🎶 love it much.....
Hope this beauty gets start soon.
Keep up the good work bro love the honda bike sad the Ducati didn't start electrical work suxs but u will get it 👍🏽 💪🏽 👌🏽
Are you trying to crank the bike with the kickstand down? Some older Ducatis require it to be up to start.
Looking good! Almost done!
Wow CJ thank you! Thats awsome!!
Thanks David!

If it's only a grounding wire, just put a temporary wire on it and ground it anywhere, just for testing.

Bike looks sick!
Love from Italy 🇮🇹
If the connection is messy you could look up to another ground connection and tap the groun wire
This bike is going to looks so nice 🙌
i told u sir in ur previous video the please check the wiring harness and see its and wiring short issue
Hell ya i was waiting❤
sorry for the delay mate, im terrible with time management lol
Good job.... 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻the best Indonesia🇮🇩❤ job you frend.. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
My brother❤❤that's a Perfect job🎉🎉🎉🎉

Yup thats correct.. i just read in desmo page tht code 19.2 Starter Solenoid shorted to earth.. u are fast learner..
Keep try bro .. .next video it would fire up.... definitely
Batmobile is coming together😂
Would like to live in america to buy damadge bikes like you cj. Keep the good work 💪

Beautiful bike 😍
keep digging youll figure it out
Make the bike more smooth by changing the window boults into black and also the taillight anything else then yellow.
Where do you buy your fairings?
Tip over switch is damaged or needs to be reset
You are so persistent/determined and unphased. Such an inspiration brother
Clocked it.. Comment of the day here guys !!!
try to erase codes from ecm. there are certain codes that once set, the ecu won't send the ground to the solenoid
i waiting for starting!!!
Love form Nepal🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵
keep wait for progress this motorcycle

Did you buy the correct ECU? Evo ecu for non evo-bike?

make her all black

I hope your going to put blue headlight bulbs on that bike??
Hi, Which motorcycle brand is the best for you?
Haha I really like MV or Aprilia
Check button - relay - motor starter ..good luck..
Check with some of the Ducati forums They have some good information and might be able to help.

I think your ECU is the culprit. Try and borrow an ECU for that bike and try that
