    Hi cher... for 2022 paper 2 question 5, the answer is "the writer used a hyperbole, "a whole lifetime away" to exaggerate how distant lucy felt from the place."
    However, for your answers, you didnt have the same "format" as the answer. 2022 paper will identify what kind of structure or type is that (hyperbole, personification, etc).
    So i was wondering if i will get marked down if i did your way instead

    "The holiday had found its fiercest day yet." Shows that the day is one of the hotest day.
    "One woman who carried an unmbrella wedged into her armpit, like artillery." Shows that the woman was sheltering herself from the scorching sun with an umbrella.
    "The sky was iron flat." Shows that there were no clouds to block out the sunrays, making the weather extremely hot that day.

    hello cher, please give me feedback on the answers i have written while attempting example 2 🙏
    “umbrella wedged into her armpit” suggests that the woman was guarding herself from the scorching sun.
    “the sky was ironed flat” suggests that not a single cloud was present in the sky to shield the sunlight
    “the clouds had fallen from the edges in the faultless blue above our heads” suggests that the sky was very clear and allowed the sweltering heat of the sun to reach the ground

    • @ChersEnglishTuition
      @ChersEnglishTuition  11 місяців тому

      “Umbrella..” - this quote doesn’t really tell us about the heat
      “Ironed…” - this is more suitable for your 3rd quote
      “Clouds had fallen…” - “clear” is too vague
      Keep trying! :)

    When quoting the points does it matter if I quote like this “eg.” or like this ‘eg.’ sorry if it’s a stupid qn

      It’s a good question actually. You can use either single or double inverted commas but you need to keep it consistent. From what I know, the difference is that one is American and the other is British English. The important thing is to be consistent in your use. If you use double, then stick to it throughout.

    hi teacher, I am curious about what if during the exams we don’t have enough adjectives to describe. For example, to describe hotness, what if I could only think of two adjectives to describe it? I think that’s the problem why i always couldn’t make up three details.

    • @ChersEnglishTuition
      @ChersEnglishTuition  Рік тому +2

      That’s a good question. Such a situation can definitely happen during the exams. There are a few strategies to counter this. One is to think of a way to rephrase instead of using adjectives. A simple example would be to describe ‘colourful’ as ‘filled with a variety of colours’. Hope this helps.

    • @sujoynath6362
      @sujoynath6362 11 місяців тому +1

      @@ChersEnglishTuition but would we not be repeating the base word of 'colourful' and would that be a problem?

    • @ChersEnglishTuition
      @ChersEnglishTuition  11 місяців тому +1

      There are some words that cannot be replaced with other synonyms. Try to think of other words to replace ‘colour’. We need to be careful to ensure that the meaning is still the same.

    Miss, how about one of my answer talked about "ice cream of the baby's chin" is that possible? Because I thought it's implying the day is so hot that the babies are being fed ice cream to cool

    • @ChersEnglishTuition
      @ChersEnglishTuition  7 місяців тому

      Good question. 'ice cream on babies' chins' does not necessarily imply a hot day as ice cream can be eaten any day. This phrase could also imply that babies are messy eaters. The main thing to note is that the phrase itself does not contain anything specific that tells us it is a hot day, as compared to the other sentences in my explanation. Hope this helps :)

    for this part 10:20 can one of the details be 'wiping ice cream from the babies chin' suggests that the weather was so hot, a cold snack like ice cream was needed to refresh children. OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT? 😭😭

    • @ChersEnglishTuition
      @ChersEnglishTuition  4 місяці тому

      Not really. The reason is because it could be the babies don’t know how to eat ice cream and end up making a mess. The detail itself doesn’t specifically tell us about the weather and that this cold snack was needed to refresh them. Hope that answers your question. Keep up the good work :)
