    Thankyou for the fertiliser info Mark it was just what i needed. Ive been reluctant to use anything in the shrimp tank and didnt know what to buy. Ive actually got a bag of Potash and a bag of Iron Sulphate for my garden plants, could i use these?

      yes but really be careful with the dosing, I am not a 100% sure what is safe with potash and shrimp

    Hi Mark, Just started keeping shrimp. the iron you use is it chilated iron? I use it in my acuaponic system and its fish safe but comes in powder form so needs water added first. liquid is dificult to find here in spain and many international sites cannot post liquids over i think is 250ml which makes it expensive as for 1ltr its 4 different packages/postages. I had many problems trying to find a dealer for Maxicrop which i also use in my acuaponic system. Great channel that i am slowly working through the content, thanks for sharing.

    Hey Mark quick question, we all know that general rule of thumb is to do 10 %t o 20 % water change. Is it safe to do about 40% to 45% water change to help with the ammonia spike problem. Let know thanks

    Some questions why do you use ferro? Shrimp hate iron?
    What does humim+ for your tank?
    Thanks Mark!

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  5 років тому +4

      the ferts are for plants ,Iron is shrimp safe, hummin and fulvic help the shrimp absorb minerals, it also helps with molting.

  • @bigbexplore
    @bigbexplore 4 роки тому

    how often do you add the iron and fert etc for the plants is this every two weeks whn doing water changes mark or do u add that plant stuff more often weely ? daily etc ?

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  4 роки тому

      I dont do this at all now, my shrimp come before the plants, if you do have a planted tank you can still do this stuff like iron can be added every 2nd day at peak growth times in your tanks.

    Do the fertilisers have much effect on tds?

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  4 роки тому +1

      yes they do, you will get a slight increase, I dont use them anymore though. I would rather restart a tank that try and fix an issue with a lack of ferts...the less you do the better shrimp survive.. saying that if you have a large planted tank still sty and dose when you can.

    Wicked channel Mark, I have had an issues with red cherry shrimps in the past id spend around £50 on the shrimps and they would breed and the females would get berried then they would all start to die? Any advice please .

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  5 років тому +1

      Hello Scotty, the most common reason without knowing more details would be you doing to large a water change, I only do 10% of aged treated Reverse osomosis a week, if you are on tap you should also age the water this is just letting it sit for 24hr preferably in the same room as the tank so they heat up to roughly the same temp. make sure you also use a dechlorinator 👍

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  5 років тому +1

      Never had it my friend but its meant to be a bacterial disease in the shell itself, leading to brown spots ... If you know about h202 dosing I wouild have tried that.

    • @merphyslaw1181
      @merphyslaw1181 5 років тому

      Marks Shrimp Tanks thank you. I have considered that path next. My tank had a volume of water around 38 liters. Can I really add 12mL or H202 safety? That seems like a lot.

    I love your videos. Have you done any aquascaping tanks where there is large water changes like 50% a week. Your Shrimps are absolutely fantastic. I like shrimps, my tank is sterile compared to yours no algae is there a compromise somewhere or a way to get around it.
    Thanks for all your hard work, Steve.

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  5 років тому +1

      Hello Steve, huge water changes will kill shrimp for sure, I would say its the one main thing that turns a novice shrimp keeper into a competent one and then you start to have way more success, I only do 10% a week but I am always looking at ways to keep the water cleaner without over filtering.

    syphoning tip. You never have to suck on the tube if you have a small cup on one side of your hose like you've got at 16:43 Just put your thumb over the end of the tube, then fill the tube by scooping several times with the cup. Hold the cup in the air so it runs into the tube. (so never a reason to put your mouth on the tube or accidentally get a mouthful of aquarium water.

    How not to breed shrimp, last year's i buy like 10 pinto shrimp n just put them in cardinal tetras tank n they eat all the algae in that tank just in 1 month 10 turn into 25 shrimp 3 months i hve like 50 of them n overload the tank i hve to move some of them to another new tank, 6 month past i hve like 200+ of pinto shrimp n move again to bigger tank so now 1year 3 months i hve like 500+ pinto shrimp from 10 shrimp to 500+ pinto shrimp, shrimp are easy breeder..

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  4 роки тому

      Hello Joricano, It is if you use tap water, I use Reverse Osmosis water that has nothing in it until I add things so I know my TDS readings will be true, you can't use a tds meter on tap water to gauge gh as an example because a tds meter reads everything not just gh.
