There was a video going around a few months back of Chris Pratt dealing with some autograph hunters. A guy curses him out and he flat out says "I just made you like 300 bucks with 3 signatures and you want more? Stop being a jerk man" and drives off. They know these guys aren't fans they just want an autograph.

Not everyone at premieres is gonna sell them , i tried with several but unsuccessful : Walken (9 yrs ago when he was on NY stage) , Streep (she sgd nothing at Berlin alle) , Streisand (was gonna ask her outisde hotel but just gave up due to all this waiting)

I can relate to what Hamill said to the autograph scalpers. If I came upon a celebrity, I’d want a pic with him/her. An autograph would be cool but to get a pic with one of my idols would be the ultimate memory maker. I hate how the autograph scalpers ruin true fans opportunity to meet their fave celebs
You take a selfie with Mark Hamill. Next time you see him, politely ask if he wouldn't mind signing the printed out photo. If he doesn't want to that's fine but if he does great. Frame it and hang it up on your wall at home. That's a real fan.

The coolest experience I’ve had meeting one of my heroes didn’t involve any souvenirs save my memory of the event, and I actually wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Met the late, great Chi Cheng in the audience at a show. Talked for a few minutes while the main act was setting up. Asking would have detracted from a genuinely cool experience talking about music, as two fans.

I used to work at a hotel in boston had to deal with the autograph hounds. Would see the same guys day after day. I say 20 per of them were nice. A lot of them dealers and the sports stars and actors know.

I feel like Mark is putting up a lot of stress of being a celebrity.
I think Mark stopped caring about being a celebrity after "Return of the Jedi" came out. He was perfectly happy doing voice work. He didn't even want to do the ST, and only agreed to do it because Carrie and Harrison decided to do it. I like that he's getting offers for more live action, and that he's choosing stuff that would be fun for him. He doesn't have to do anything anymore. He still owns profit points in the OT so he'll be well off for the rest of his life.

Unless you want a selfie or a personalized autograph because you are a fan, do not insult celebs by basically robbing from them for profit. A signature is a personal thing, long after they are gone. But while they are alive, at very least, show respect.

There was a vid a few years back of some MLB star denting an autograph “for a sick kid” that tries to portray him as a prick. Of course the reality was the asker was some greasy hound using the ol’ sick child scam. Autograph hounds are scum. Collecting and getting autographs is cool. Selling them is OK too. It’s The subterfuge and lying and general lack of courtesy and ethics that make them scum. Sad thing is that to people ignorant to how the whole racket works, they see things like this and assume the star is being an asshole. I’ve actually seen viral videos posted to that effect. Good on the celebs for figuring out ways to weed out the pricks from the real fans. Hamill’s selfies are a good one. In the old days, celebs would only personalize the autographs in order to remove the resale value (which I think Hamill even references when he says ‘you guys know how to remove that stuff - I.e., the personalization)
