    I made essentially the same lure 20 years ago. When I was about 13-14 years old, I would create lures on a wood lathe in my basement. Only difference between mine and yours is the skirt was on the back. Also, I weighted each protoype to run at different depths. My reasoning was same as yours -- so I didn't have to reel as fast to stay above weeds -- but also so I could make small sized bucktails that casted far on standard musky tackle. Probably caught more Musky's on that invention than the rest of my lures combined. Live in Florida now, but still use them when I visit WI in the summer.

    Hi Lee. Big fan here! I used to make the Musky Snax baits back a few years ago now. Have you tried adding a large single hook on the rear with a big white twister tail as a teaser? Just thought it might add a little extra something when the fish are being finicky! You make great baits and I love your channel!

    I’m going up to Canada next week and plan to fish day and night, I plan to fish the boilermaker a lot but last year we had great success fishing side to side top waters and water choppers, what baits should I throw at night? The weeds are almost to the surface, fishstick, waterchopper, or flaptail, for night fishing along with the boilermaker?

    Love you guys! You got me into musky fishing! I have a small (200acre) lake near me with 50 inchera in it but I can't find them. Any advice on where to fish this time of year?

      Luke Wheeler, need to know about the lake:depth, forage, bottom make up. Usually more hard bottom and somewhat deeper in fall.

    • @TheAyoproductions
      @TheAyoproductions 7 років тому

      Lee and Robbie, thanks for the info I will try that! I live in Virginia, Lake is relatively shallow(deepest spots maybe 20-30ft at damned end) has a variety of habitats including hard bottom structure, manmade pallet houses, grassy flats etc. forage is typical(shad,yellow perch, bluegill, bass, walleye, maybe a trout here or there). There are main points, short ledges, mostly big grassy flats and coves that are silt bottom with some laydowns etc. Anything helps guys! I've been bass fishing all my life but never targeted musky till I saw your vids! Those fish are awesome definitely want to get one in the net!

    What brand/lb test leader would you recommend for musky?

    • @MsPrincesspaulina
      @MsPrincesspaulina 7 років тому

      There isn't a universal, one size fits all, muskie leader. It depends upon what material the leader is made from and also to a degree what kind of lure it's going to be used with. I suggest that you Google, or UA-cam, search: solid wire muskie leaders, sevenstrand wire muskie leaders, and fluorocarbon muskie leaders. That will be the fastest way for you to get info on the different types of leaders, how they're made, what size to use, and what lure to use them with.
      It's an easy question to ask but much harder and more detailed to answer in a short comment here.

    • @TodaysAngler
      @TodaysAngler  7 років тому +2

      I would recommend a Stealth Tackle 130lb fluorocarbon leader for most instances, maybe 100lb for smaller baits. Or just a 100lb sevenstrand steel is fine too overall.

    • @MsPrincesspaulina
      @MsPrincesspaulina 7 років тому

      Yeah, but glide baits work better with a solid wire leader.

      Paul Coenen, putting a joint in the bait would ruin the thump and make it harder to cast.

    I'd be tempted to move the skirt from the nose of the bait to the tail of the bait over the rear hook. To my eye it looks like the lure body prevents the skirt from flaring out and kills its action. Otherwise, that's a great looking lure and a great concept. Be a good lure for a beginner to throw as they pick out their backlashes.

    • @sj1roese
      @sj1roese 7 років тому

      MsPrincesspaulina I see what you mean about the skirt but I’d have to say I like it in front for the deeper belly/fat profile look. Either way it’s pretty sweet.

    • @MsPrincesspaulina
      @MsPrincesspaulina 7 років тому

      To each their own, I guess.
      You could still move the skirt back and just make the lure body with a bigger diameter, to give you that fat profile look, and compensate the internal body weight.

    • @TodaysAngler
      @TodaysAngler  7 років тому

      MsPrincesspaulina, the skirt doesn't flare out much because it's a single blade which doesn't create the vortex behind the blade like doubles.

    • @MsPrincesspaulina
      @MsPrincesspaulina 7 років тому

      That maybe be true. I don't use the double blade lures much. I know my single blade natural hair bucktails pulse more than this does.
      I'm not trying to start a argument nor am I knocking your new lure, Lee. It was just something I noticed and thought I'd make the suggestion. Try it with one lure and see if the skirt has more pulse and movement.
      Another thought I had was to put the blade behind the lure body or even have 2 blades, 1 in front of the body and another behind with the skirt in back.
