rediscovered this after smoulder covered it, gods this album gave me so many great memories, RIP Mark, this song really does conjure energy like its summoning the legions of hell and all of lucifer's warriors
Thanks for the Smoulder mention. I just checked them out, and they're great! And their Cage of Mirrors cover is excellent, I'm sure Mark would like it.
Manilla Road has this dusty old D'n'D and Weird tales pulp fiction feel. And just like H.P. Lovecraft and Robert E Howard they didn't get the recognition they deserved in life.
On the drest of Eternity, a Bell for every day That I've lived in silent search of the Mirrored Cage I could summon Lucifer and his Warriors With the Necromancer's Cage of Mirrors I found the Castle on the hill where is said to be The Necromancer's Gate to Hell, a Cage of Sorcery Mirrored bars that show us all the Pathways through the Mind To the Other Side of Hell where Demon Warriors ride... Where Demon Warriors ride... Ha! Ha! Ha! The Cage appears before my eyes, I feel I'm in a dream To the Other Side of Hell I cast my Spell and scream I summon Lucifer and his Warriors I... I found the Cage of Mirrors With Magick Book I cast the Spell of the Trinity To open up the Gates of Hell and blacken all the Seas The Griffon with his eyes of blood searing through my Soul Demanding Virgin Sacrifice, how was I to know How was I to know... I couldn't know... Not ever possibly... What did I do... Blasphemy... Ha! Ha! Ha! Take me back the way I came, I don't want to see The Evil that awaits my name, I live in agony I would send back Lucifer and his Warriors But I'm trapped in a Cage of Mirrors
Didn't realize this was a cover, it was the best song on the Smoulder album by a long shot. Should have known it was Manilla Road based on the lyrics, it sounded like something they would write. There's a lot more vocal range in this version, the Smoulder version feels like it has a lot of empty space that Manilla Road clears out with the vocals.
The cage of mirrors is just what it seems , it is related to the legend of Abdhul Alhazrhath , read the Necronomicon passages relating to the Armanth Xul . Just a mythical little book written by some anonymous author cashing in on the HP Lovecraft stories which centered around the aforementioned make believe grimoire . Just a harmless little piece of literature or is it?? Anyway Mark Shelton was writing about this type of ancient Sumerian in Syriac mythology use they inspired HP lovecraft's characterization long before the Death metal bands adopted it as their own. I am sure that he must have been an inspiration behind Trey Azagthoth of Morbid Angel. Reynolda road were arguably the very first musical act to include lyrics directly in reference with Lovecraft. Now it's commonplace to write like that
Killer. Great album. In an alternate universe this would be Rush's second album. Obviously the vocal is nothing like Geddy's but it just sounds so 1974 ( that's a compliment).
I imagine it's like Big Boo's Haunt from SM64. A small hollow artifact shaped like a lantern but instead of just glass it is mirrors. If used incorrectly you get transported inside and is bigger than meets the eye. No escape.
They want to play proto-metal to inform enslaved mankind of the mindmanipulations carried out by filth not even resembling lifeforms?! Boy, CERN sure changed their game from the pseudo-science they claimed to practise …

Agreed and Smoulder's cover is awesome! Wouldn't of found this without them.
Smoulder! They're the ones who started me on discovering the band 😅
The best band epic metal all of time... Long live manilla... Rest in peace mark

This is the embodiment of true metal!
RIP MARK THE SHARK SHELTON. Love always and may you have peace in Valhalla. You're home.
Wait. The frontman of Manilla Road is dead????? When did he die?
@@johnbreighner5852 - Dude, use the internet.
@@chrispile3878 Hey don't be rude. I'm just asking.
@@johnbreighner5852- If you know of Manilla Road, you'd know Mark passed in 2018 during a tour.
@@chrispile3878 damn.
Such an Amazing and Timeless Masterpiece ! ! 😎💪👊🤘💞

Best Manila road song Manilla road the best heavy metal bands so this is the best song of all time

Totally harmless.....really. Totally.
Manilla Road rules forever!!!
I was just lucky enough to watch this on a cruise ship... So fucking amazing!
I was there too!!!!! 70000 tons Of metal!!!!!!
Still have my original copy on vinyl. This is one of their greatest songs in my opinion.
Agree!! Keep true metal alive!!!

I love the D'n'D fantasy pulp fiction feel of Manilla Road. Goes well with a game of Warhammer thematically.
⚔️ metal ⚔️
rip 🦈
😳
A good friend passed away this summer!!!
RIP Mr. Shelton
Fucking great band. R.I.P. Shark. See ya soon.
This is the best song of all time, thank you for playing it in Cyprus!
This is the best album
Superb
2:31 almost reminds me of a slowed down "Smells like teen spirit"
Seriously?
RIP Mark The Shark
Up the Hammers!
and down the nails!
Mark really sounds like Hendrix gone fantasy metal at times.
totally agree! For me it's the Jimi Hendrix of metal anyway!
manilla road rules
Not same style but this band rejoice me more then Iron Maiden
Metal is a great album but in my opinion Mark of the beast is the best of all albums
Lemmy Detritus very true
I thought this song was going to be based off that scene in Conan when Conan is trapped in that place with mirrors.
lol not really, but that scene fucking rules
I like how one part is just an excuse for the drummer to go apeshit. It's good though!
This is an epic drumming song. Fisher goes insane on this one and Neudi in later live shows mastered it.
I still wonder what a cage of mirrors might look like if it weren't only a metaphor. :/

Check out Hall of Mirrors by Witchfynde on the Lords of Sin album not quite as good as song and this one but it's pretty good
This is like Rush and Tenacious D and Judas Priest and Fates Warning had a big ole musical baby together.
And it's name is Manilla Road....⚔️
Foda esse som, porra!!!!! Muito foda mesmo!!!! Demais!!!!!!!!
sensacional
Up the hammers caralho!
"I could summon Lucifer, and his warriors".
Mark voice sounds twisted on this track.
Mark smoked Maiden.
This sounds like what CERN wants to do.

@@wolfgangtrubshaw5549 I'd blast this through the big tube.
Only Necropolis ranks higher
Aleister Crowley
blasphemy!
