Thank you again sir for these great courses. I have learn lot of things, i'm trying to do the same stuff as you but I have a problem : The subbasin characteristic doesn't appear so noway to continue . i can just see Subbassin area.
i have found a solution. the data range (max and min) of my DEM file was not correct after the projection i did in arcGis Pro, it was 818 to -325207. To solve the problem i used the spatial analysis tool raster calculator and made this condition : Con(("FileName.tif">=0)&("FileName.tif"
Thank you for the video, Do you know why I got the SCS curve numbers more than 100, for example, 800, 900, 700,1000? Do I need to use a clipt tiff file representing the exact extent of the watershed?
you mentioned at about 9:11 that this is the first iteration. Is there a way to figure out K and X values using iterations? Follow up question, Could we just use the Lag time routing method, and use the same method we used for the finding the Lag time of the sub-basins?
Hey, I have a small question regarding lag time if someone can help. I am trying to calculate Basin Lag time for a 130 sq. km basin in one of the Middle Eastern Countries using the time of concentration. The loss and transform method that I have used in HMS is SCS-CN. However, time of concentration is showing huge variation when calculated using SCS method ( using lambda , L & S) in comparison to calculation done using Kirpich method. My confusion is, as to which method will yield more realistic results. As the method selected for UH is SCS , should I use the same SCS Lag equation for the tc computation or go for Kirpich equation which yields a much lower (4 times ) value of tc ? Kindly guide me through.
Hello, I have CNvalue larger than 1000 (for example subbasin1 has cn = 5413.0) and hence "S" appears to be negative (-9.815) due to which time of concentration could not be calculated. What can I do?
in the latest version of HEC HMS 4.11, Parameters >> Characteristics > Subbasin shows an empty table , recomputing doesnt work either. Uninstalled and installed version 4.7.1 , repeated same steps and Subbasin table shows just fine there.
I had the same issue with 4.11. Tried to open the project in a few different versions including 4.7.1 and 4.10 and I get the message "project version 4.11 is not compatible with HEC-HMS version 4.10". It will not open the project. Can anyone help?
I had the same issue. It was rectified when I tried defining the coordinates (instead of skip use select option) before preprocessing. There are chances of not computing the sub basin characteristics if the coordinates are not projected properly.
It is a good question, but the answer is long to post here. You will need to read a chapter on hydrologic routing or Muskingum routing to find the answer!
You can use your landuse data to get this information. You can assume urban area to be impervious to keep it simple. Some countries also have separate impervious cover datasets
The BEST HEC HMS Series on UA-cam. Thanks for your effort.
Thank you!
Thank you for this HEC HMS Series. Really appreciate your efforts. Please complete this series ASAP and start HEC RAS Series too.
My Appreciation for your effort.
Researcher from Taiwan :)
thank you
, very important
, pleas review
at 6:40 mint of this video
(make sure sorting is alphabetic for subbasin)
, thank you very much
Thank you for pointing out. I will update the video when I get a chance in the future!
you did not sorted sub basin as alphabetically in SCS Transform and pasted the lag time value.....
Thanks for pointing this out! I hope you did not make the same mistake!
thanks for the great video. just small typing mistake. km=3280.84 feet
Hello, Can you please tell me Why did you select 0.5 for the K parameter? and is it acceptable to keep the number of sub-reaches to 1?
My sub basin characteristics table doesn't display any values. Using version 4.11
try 4.10 version. sometimes newer versions have bugs.

no specific reason. It is just a starting value.

check your script. You should not get anything above 100

Yes, there is a way. You will need observed streamflow data to do that.
Thank you

hello good day how to compute the storage of coefficient in hr
Sir, what is no. of subreaches @10:24
It is the number of reaches. the stream inside each sub-basin.

Something is wrong with your CN calculation. I cannot be greater than 99 theoretically
Thanks for sharing. How can I create a lumped basin from GIS tab?
you do not need gis to create lumped basin. you can simply add a sub-basin element after creating an empty basin.
@@hydrologyvideos8253 Got it. Thank you very much.

i have not used 4.11 yet. usually i wait for some time before the newer version is fixed from all bugs.

How to find k and x values in muskingum .
I'm having only outlet discharge value

@@hydrologyvideos8253 thanks
9:58 mistyped 0/25
Characteristics option not showing, please give me a suggestion
try using a different version of hec-hms (4.7 or 4.8)
I can’t find sub-basin characteristics as i get no data in the table
if you follow the instructions correctly they should appear. try again.
sir how to give impervious ness value? IS there any method to get impervious value. Kindly provide any tip.
You can use your landuse data to get this information. You can assume urban area to be impervious to keep it simple. Some countries also have separate impervious cover datasets
@@hydrologyvideos8253 Thanks..
there was quite a large mistake when adding the lag time without sorting the sub-basins first.
yes. thanks for pointing this out.
I think that the factor to convert km to feet is 3280 not 3208
Good catch! thanks.
The subbasin are not in the correct order. confirm
yes, it was a mistake that I made so please do it correctly!
