Freddie is still just as smooth as butter. Boom Boom. It's a toss up between him and Ernie Els for the smoothest most powerful swing in golf.

This two players are good examples for two different swing styles.
VJ had a weight shift to left leg and turn the left leg/pelvis/abdomen to create needed active power.
Fred just backed off the left hip while kept the body weight on the right side to drive.
We can compare the relationship between the wrists and the right side belly at downswing.

That was when Tiger was predominantly working on his stinger shot. And Phil was also using driver less. But Vijay stayed pounding the driver and really capitalized on that. I’m surprised he didn’t win more majors but I guess putting is just as if not more important than ballstriking lol

I didn’t like VJ back when he took #1 from tiger because I was a dumb kid, A Tiger fan and also thought of him as a cheater but have grown to like him. I see many similarities in my own swing with his and wonder if it has anything to do with similar injuries. When I was a teenager I hurt my lower back snowboarding and I know he’s withdrawn from tournaments from a bad back. Especially with driver, trying to get my lead hip excessively cleared like many modern instructors preach does nothing but cause me pain, on the flip side with slight early extension and maintaining a relatively level head causes zero pain in my back no matter how much I play. Ive hit multiple millions of golf balls being obsessed with this game since I was 5 or 6, most of my youth into my mid 20’s I was hitting balls from sun up well into the night when I couldn’t even see where they were going then going home and practing indoors even more until I fell asleep watching the golf channel. I still play/practice a lot and only when heavily clearing my lead hip, getting lots of side bend does my back flair up. Guys like VJ, Nicklaus, Justin Thomas, Scotty sheffler, Louis Oosthuizen, and many more all have a similar move with their pelvis. I’ve always been fairly long and an extremely good ball striker, slight miss hits are bad shots for me and GIR/irons have always been the strongest part of my game, especially while playing on mini tours and well practiced I was a ball striking machine hitting any shot on command. I think way to much emphasis these days is put on everyone making exactly the same move through the ball and a guy like Nicklaus for example would have a plethora of things changed, he’d be told he’d never play well with early extension, a flying elbow, etc and probably never actually play to his full potential because of it. Every “body” is built differently and trying to make everyone’s swings identical in my opinion has become one of the worst trends in the modern game and undoubtedly has ruined many of swings.
Also watching VJ and Tiger go head to head in Boston 2006 was such a great weekend at TPC Boston. I was 16 running around the place with my buddy , he was #2 and I was #1 on our high school golf team. I won my 1st state championship that year as well which was a sweat bonus after coming in2nd, 3rd then 2nd again the 3 years before. Great year 😂

@@Ben77788 Vijah has an outside take away and contacts the ball to the inside (high fade). That move he does with his hands allows him to hold a very steep angle as long as he possibly can to hit that fade.
