Love the quotes - on a motorcycle it *is* about the journey. You’re not in a cocoon or a cage, you’re physically exposed to the places you pass through. Great practical tip to cool off in the creek! Bavarian Hillbillies!

You inspire me , this 20 min Video has just left me wanting more and more , your music is perfect your Pictures are epic and I just love listening to your comments. Thank you for sharing a great tip , it’s not how far you ride it’s about stopping and enjoying the moment. I’m just home from a 10 hour driving city buese in England , and now I’m happy again , just can’t wait until May Day of next Monday and me and my girl are heading out , from one GSA to another ,ride safe ,be safe .

Brilliant! You are spot on about stopping on a road trip to "smell the onions" and "wet trees". Probably applicable to life in general. Love watching your wonderful videos and it's great to see someone living life and not living for product reviews. Ride safe.

I had done a few multi-week, several thousand mile trips out through the western U.S. on a Harley in the 1970's and early 80's. Solo riding, like you. Those special places, moments and people give your soul a good reboot. Then came work, family, and responsibilities. Now they say I'm old, and many I once knew are gone, some forever. Yet, I still ride. And dream. And find your videos a great reminder of the importance of grabbing life by the handlebars.

I was about to add a comment Ian and then read Carl Newman's and I absolutely echo his sentiments. We are most fortunate to have people like you through whom we can vicariously enjoy rides we might never get to do ourselves. You certainly inspire me to get out and ride more, but also to enjoy the moment. As you say, nobody cares how far you ride, what matters are the memories you gather along the way, together with that out there other-worldly feeling you get being on a motorbike in the great outdoors. I like having a google map open alongside and to be able to chart your progress. Great video footage, but wonderful stills also. That picture of the people standing on the jetty on Lake Crescent was outstanding. You also get how good being on a bike is, whatever the weather, for our mental health and are not afraid to talk about it. I thank you!

I covered some of the same ground 10 years ago on my 1150GS, and your video summoned strong, pleasant memories of that trip. I rode out of Tallahassee, Florida, to San Diego. From there I rode North following your route, picking up a nail in my rear tire in Eureka, CA. From the Olympic Peninsula I returned East on Highway 2, enjoying another flat rear tire in ‘Nowhere,’ MT.
    Thanks for the excellent video.

Awesome journey, I especially enjoyed seeing the brief Big Sur section as I lived in Monterey for many years and that section of HWY 1 is where I learned to ride. Spent many hours in the saddle along the Big Sur coast and surrounding area. I'm living further NW now and have traveled the coast up through Oregon and Washington. The freedom of the ride is indeed good for the psyche and the soul.

395...I'll have to remember that. A fellow rider once told me, if I ever decide to go west again to head to Olympia, then down the coast to Cabo San Lucas, Baja. He is from Australia, so he's no stranger to coast lines, but he and his wife were blown away by how diverse the landscape is.
😆 surprising how things dry on behind the bike. Reminds me of the hobo carrying a stick and handkerchief, with his whole life in side it👍

Thanks for the video, it brings back memories. 30+ years ago my 1989 Kawasaki ZX-10 and I rode from So California to Crater Lake. Spent one night in a campground, near the Oregon Caves National Monument. It was raining the next morning. After stowing the camping gear, donning the rain suit it stopped raining about 20 miles up the cost. Stopped, took off the rain gear, then 10 minutes later, it's raining again. Stopped, donned the rain suit, and you guessed it, it stopped raining. I turned inland and continued. My two week trip was memorable. Hwy 1 along the California coast, eating at the famous Samoan Cook house in Northern California, and visiting Crater Lake, what a rush.
Thanks again for sharing! Happy riding!

Howdy, I love your comment about stopping, get off the bike and enjoy the scenery. That's one of the reasons I ride solo. Being at my own pace and go vagabonding. Generally, the US is a great place to do that. Texas, my home state. is more problematic. I call barbed wire the state flower. Costa Rica, where I did 10,000 miles, is also strange in this concern. No places to stop once you are on the road. South Africa, Lesoto, Mosambique, and especially Thailand are just made for stopping. What I like most about stopping in Thailand: most likely you get great food on the road. I even stopped to get a relaxing massage. Cheers Andi

Hi Ian! I love the good natured way you deal with adversity! And the production value of your videos is excellent! It really inspires and cultivates the spirit of adventure! I don't have a GS or Ténéré, but I am seriously considering doing PCH/Hwy 1 from Monterey to Joshua Tree, California on the CRF300L. Me and "Little Red" are ready for the challenge!

You should check out Itchyboots. She has gone around the World on a Honda CRF300L. She entered this side of the World in Argentina, and is already in the States making her way to Alaska. It’s unbelievable what She has gone through on that Bike. It’s like the Energizer Bunny, it just keeps going and going. Honda Owns Reliability.

당신의 멋진 여행을 잘보았습니다. 나는 2012년에 샌프란시스코에서 샌디에고까지 여행한적이 있습니다. 그대의 영상으로 그때의 기억이 되살아나네요. 늘 행복하시길

Excellent way to compress that distance into something "watchable". Your comment around the 8:45 mark is spot on! Ya, you get it with a good follow up comment while riding the 395 in OR. The wife & I rode some of that in OR a couple years ago. We will be riding the Olympic Peninsula this summer as we loop back from Banff/Whistler/Vancouver Canada, then down the OR coastline into CA. I'll keep your approach to drying stuff out in mind. The tire puncture deal is real. We had a front tire sliced by road junk just outside of Mesquite NV, not pluggable and lucky we didn't go down. We had to get a flatbed tow, but... they wanted to know exactly where we were towing to and I HAD to find a tire that fit the front of the Stelvio by cell phone (the most important tool in the kit that day). I was lucky to find 1 shop in St George with a tire that would fit in stock and they would mount while I waited. I didn't even care what kind of tire at that point, ended up being a Shinko 705. Later mounted a matching Shinko 705 in Denver after finding a small slice in the rear. Tire damage while motorcycle touring is no joke. You can't always plug it and you have to find shops with suitable tires in stock.

Great video! Was great to see my old stomping grounds. I use to live in Santa Barbara, San Francisco and Eureka, California. I am in Thailand now and have a Royal Enfield Classic 350. Glad you made it back home in one piece. Take care........Sal : )

Dude! Wet Clothes? 2 words: Laundry Mat
This past summer, I flew to Las Vegas, rented a R1250RT and drove it ~2900 miles over 15 days. Returned it to Hertz Ride in Vegas and flew home. Best vacation ever. (also solo)

@BigRockMoto maybe someone already said this; but use a mesh laundry bag to hold things while air drying. It’ll keep them from flapping/tearing in the wind and won’t take up space when not used.
