    Thanks for a great show. Was going to pass on the UWT-50 since my NCE system does not have Wi-Fi and did not want to run it on JMRI until Dan talked about the Wifitrax WFD-30. So I ordered a WFD-30 from Iron Planet Hobbies which is a US distributor for Wifitrax and the UWT-50 with the potentiometer. For Power Cab users Wifitrax also makes a combo WiFi/PCP/UTP panel for the NCE Power Cab which replaces the original NCE PCP panel and also gives you WiFi (WFD-31) also sold at Iron Planet Hobbies. Looking forward to watching your N scale layout build.

    Very true, N-scale isn't very forgiving however still a lot of fun. As James noted the smaller scale opens up a lot of possibilities for scenery or certain scenes. Another good show as usual.

    Glad you gave some credit to us N scalers. I have been working with N since 1972 when I first saw it. It wasn't very good then. Once you learn how to lay the track (yes it does need to be precise) and do it for awhile it becomes second nature. Isn't his a great hobby no matter what scale there is something for everyone.

    Ken must be uncomfortable with the Proto Throttle if he doesn't like looking at the throttle while operating his train. It really is best suited, IMHO, for when you want an intense experience of operations. Thank you for your salute to N scale and more information about the TCS throttle.

    • @woodalexander
      @woodalexander 3 роки тому

      Ken's a great cheerleader for the hobby, and a talented modeler, but I don't think operations are his strong suit. It would be great to see his reaction to a PT and a loco programmed for it though. Maybe running with it could make him a convert!

    • @jerrysmith1929
      @jerrysmith1929 3 роки тому

      @@woodalexander I'm likely somewhat closer to Ken than I am to hard core operators. Scenery is my thing. I can appreciate the PT attraction for operations, however. Purchasing one isn't on my current list.

    • @woodalexander
      @woodalexander 3 роки тому

      @@jerrysmith1929 Yeah they're really expensive and require some programming of the decoders to work right. For more casual operators, the UWTs are the way to go.

    What was not mentioned 'about In throttle' consists, is that if another throttle tries to control the consist, only one Loco will respond, i.e. only another TCS throttle can 'take over' a TCS configured consist if there are multiple operators.

    • @JamesRegiersModels
      @JamesRegiersModels 3 роки тому +1

      It's not mentioned, but it's not exactly hidden, either. This is because of how "consisting" works on the TCS throttle. Essentially, you call up all locomotives like you would using WiThrottle on your cell phone. Neither the WiThrottle nor the TCS UWT throttles set up a consisting address. Instead, they send commands to the locomotives each simultaneously on their individual DCC addresses.
      The UWT has added the innovative step of allowing users to decide which commands go to all units and which are reserved for the selected "lead unit". I.E. if you have 502 , 503, and 812 in a consist with 502 as your selected lead, the throttle will send commands for all units to throttle up, throttle down, change direction, muting, and whatever other function buttons you select, but it will will only send the F0/Headlight, F1/Bell, and F2/Horn, and whatever other function buttons you choose, to 502 or your designated lead.
      This method of consisting makes it very easy to set up consists, to add or drop locos locos on the fly, and to change consist lead. You can even change the consist lead. However, there is no consist address assigned, so nothing is transferred. Unless the throttle is passed on with the train, then the next user must program the consist into their throttle.

    • @TimberSurf
      @TimberSurf 3 роки тому

      @@JamesRegiersModels Thanks for the reply James, we are both saying the same thing. For those that are used to (NCE) consists, I just wanted to make it clear, that a consist number can not be passed between throttles, either the throttle has to be passed on like a batton, or as you say, another throttle has to be programed to an identical consist to take control.

    You're funny, Ken P. You cycle through about half dozen people or so. You need have people from MRC, Atlas, Con-Cor, Broadway, Walthers, Kato, Accurail, Kadee, just for starters. Oh, they are sponsors of the show.

    • @woodalexander
      @woodalexander 3 роки тому

    • @jeremyvehring9259
      @jeremyvehring9259 3 роки тому

      @@woodalexander What do you have against MRC. MRC power packs was a standard for years. MRC is still offering cutting edge stuff like their light and loco genie. Their always updating their DCC items as well. I think their Tech 6 system is a good compromise for us older DC users. It would be nice to see NCE, Digitrax, and ect. get their act together and try to offer something like the Tech 6 and/or get into Complete Command Control (like the Loco Genie) where you don't need a command station and communicate right to the decoder.

  • @jamessutton9319
    @jamessutton9319 3 роки тому +1

    I assume since it sounds like the TCS wi-fi throttles talk to the wi-throttle server in JMRI that it works fine with any DCC controller including DCC++ on Arduinos?

    • @JohnSL
      @JohnSL 3 роки тому +1

    • @JamesRegiersModels
      @JamesRegiersModels 3 роки тому

      That's programmable in most decoders. I'm not sure what the CV is, but directional/constant on/reverse dimming options are definitely available on TCS decoders, and that's what I deal with most often. Again though, most decoders from most manufacturers will have this feature.
