In Summary:
1st-Scope out (crash course) the Sec+ Material through any physical media - limit to 4 hours
2nd-Professor Messer Sec+ video course: take "notes" by writing questions you can reference for studying later
3rd-Anki Flashcards: Remember the massive amount of material you just got exposed to through spaced repetition (the process of taking periods of non-exposure to the material so your mind can digest it)
4th-Feynman Technique: simplify the concepts to reteach at the lowest level of understanding
5th-Boson Practice Tests or any sort of practice tests that will expose you to what the real thing will be like
Best summary ever
Where can I download your Anki flash cards?
Honey you literally just pushed my mojo back because today I just really got in my head like your every where hun! Maybe this isn’t for you! Then I prayed! Then here was your video! Transitioning isn’t for the weak is all I have to say! I will have a remote Cybersecurity job this year! I will not give up or doubt myself! With the right leader (you) I can get the right structure to grow an find a new career in the cyber world an im grateful now! Thank you God an thank you Nicole for being real an transparent plus direct!
i am currently studying for my IT CERT and its all new to me thank you girl for giving me the confidence
i have been doing nothing but practice tests and NOW im on youtube to get familiar with the terminology etc.
looking forward to this for a new career path! thank you! please make more!
Awww, thank you!!!
Professor Messer has been the best resource for me. Videos and 25 bucks for his study guide. I follow along the guide at the same time as the videos. Reading the material and hearing him commentate along side helps you pick it up faster. I'd say you're incorrect about memorization. You need to memorize. Understanding the concepts helps you apply it on the exam and in real time. I've highlighted stuff on my study notes don't see whats wrong with that.
Yeah that’s what I’m doing how’s it for you so far?
@@rkb3991 I already passed in august. Not easy but worth the study time it took.
@@stuffandthangs3953 bet bro yeah I’m watching his videos and getting his notes 🗒️
@@rkb3991 totally worth it IMO.
@@stuffandthangs3953 hey bro on the security plus test when they ask a question did they abbreviate words for example like they say IDS which stands for intrusion detection system or do they just spell the whole word out?
Congratulations. Doing tons of practice tests helped me massively. And motivation needed work on some days but you said it well....start and you’ll get to dislike it less and less every minute
ahahha yes, mindset is important. I turn it into a game!
what materials do you use for your practice exam ? Professor Messer or Jason Dion ?
What practice test?
I kept looking at your painting in the background, nice work.
I'm actually preparing for the A+ this month and looking to take the Security + or Network + next month. I have prior experience working in IT but it was years ago so I figured if I have these certs under my belt they will open doors for me.
Thanks for the learning methodology!
Your welcome!!
How are you doing ?
I have taken and passed the security plus. I am amazed that you manged to pass in 30 days as it took me over 80 days to prepare. I am curious however about how much of the knowledge you manage to retain after 30 days considering the fact that you will need a lot of this knowledge when applying for jobs. Rushing to 'get it done' is not the path I personally recommend.
Do i have to take a class or can i self study and take the Security + exam ?
I don’t want to seem like a Debbie downer but I kind of agree. It’s worth asking what score she got also maybe? To maintain the info I teach a sec+ based class for an hour 3 times a week, I study on my own 4-6 hours a day, and I do hands on labs to get the materials down and I still know I’ll have to keep teaching the class to retain the info. I don’t even consider something learned unless it is retained. Unfortunately high school taught us how to hack texts but not how to gain and acquire skills. Kudos to her for passing I do see the flaw with the concept in a way. Inspirational she had that kind of focus either way.
@@angeloreyes707 May I know which hand on labs did you do?
@@wowgingermobile2123 HackTheBox and Overthewire. Also reiterating to anyone who sees this I support this girls page just was playing devils advocate on the concept.
Thanks for the video. This is my first time hearing about Anki cards and spaced repetition. Excited to try these techniques.
Hope you enjoy!
Great job on your channel and this video. I see that fear of failure is a big obstacle for test takers. Having a plan of action and a set time limit will be helpful! I am not familiar with your process but after watching your video I think it holds some weight and is worth a test. Lol pun intended! I love seeing confidant woman in tech teaching! I also like your painting in the background and am curious as to if you painted it?
People learn in different ways. You can't say reading he book is a waste of time.
I am going straight for the Security+ sys 601. When I pass I will let you know! Awesome video! Subscribed
Thanks!!!!
Just booked my exam thanks to the first advice given here. Now I have a date to time bound my efforts.
Yes!
Did u go to class or self study??
So happy I found this channel. You earned a new subscriber!
Thank you!!
You're a star Nicole! Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much Damian!
Yes thank you I’m taking a course in cyber security’s but they only have reading material and I don’t learn this way. Thank you for the information and encouragement!😊
do you learn by watching ?Because that's how i learn....its good to know i am not the only person who prefer learning the other way💃💃💃
We are similar. I’m an artist (abstract and landscape painting) with a degree in Cybersecurity. Thank you for this video. I’m currently studying for the compTIA sec+ cert.
Thanks for sharing!
Great videos really helped me narrow down what i want to do and how to do it. Every video i have watched has helped. I also love how you explain everything and make it simple. Additionally the links that you recommended are extremely helpful.
Thank you for the kind words!
Thank You for the detailed tips and tricks ! My friends and I just talked about it and we’re gonna Try to do some group studying but I want to study rigorously like it’s 30 days as well
This was a great video! I wish you success with this channel.
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much....I was browsing feeling so hopeless that i had no experience and wouldn't be able to get a job. But your videos have helped me to see the things so much more practically...Thankyou thankyou thankyou.
Thank you!! I appreicatth ekind words
Which test do I take 1st? A+, Security plus or network plus?
Thank you Nicole for making these videos! I'm studying for my Sec+ after getting my A+ back in September. Professor Messer helped me a lot with A+. I've been using Jason Dion for Sec+ though will be probably best to go back to Professor Messer. I study every day about 1 hour, and wonder if I need to study 3 or 4 hours a day instead? I'm wondering if I study too long that I won't retain anything.
this was super helpful that you, currently working through my cybersecurity certification and find all I'm doing is notes and only taking in small amounts of info. any other tips would be wonderful. Were was it I could find the cards you mentioned?
Thanks! Good advice.. and Professor Messer is the greatest!
Couldn't agree more!
@@nicoleenesse so reading the comptia security + e book is a waste of time?
Thanks for the tips... i am working at the facility management and wanted to change a career to cyber sec. Just wanted to know if you have any website to rely on about learning or you do it on your own? Thanks
The 501 is no longer available. Do you have a link to Anki cards for the 601?
Great question?
Hmmm, I'm not sure if any have been created yet. You may have to create your own..which is also a good learning exercise in itself
Thank for sharing this with us, great information. I am planning to start studying, would you recommend getting the SYO 601 or stick to the 501? I have the 501 right now. Thank you!
Do 501. All employers see is security+ not the version
I never took any certification before. I signed up to October 2nd for Security++. I have been told that I should have at the very least A+ certification to be prepared and that Network+ is assumed prerequisite knowledgeable and honestly when I signed up I didn't know those were prerequisites. Anyways I have put 8h+ every day into studying since I signed up which was September 1, hopefully I will be prepared by October.
how did it go
I rescheduled it to sometime in November 20thish because college really got in the way of my time.
@@msor6108 oh ok
How was it?
Hey Nicole awesome job! I was wondering do you have Anki cards for 601 or any information about it getting a little cards for it?
Not yet! Haven't seen any new ones.
Thank you for your amazing tips! Are you selling your painting in the back?
Thank you!! I'm not but this might be a good idea in the future!
Thank you for this video. I know the basics of computers but I am leaving the Mental Health Forensic Psychology field to go to IT. This will help me alot. I am studying for Security + now and these tips will help me with recall.
Thanks Priscilla For the Kind Words
@@nicoleenesse my thing is that i don't have time to go to shcool on line or physical. Can i self study for my Security +, or is it a requirement to take a class?
Please i want to ask. I am a cyber security degree student. I am currently on my first year at the University. But i would like to take this certification CompTIA Security+ I saw where it is said that the recommendrd experience is at least 2 years. Is that compulsory,? Can anyone prepare for the exam and take it without meeting any of the requirements stated there. I would appreciate a response
Great video! GompTIA Security+ vs CISM - What do you recommend for a cybersecurity beginner with IT experience?
Security+. CISM is very advanced
just passed it today, you guys can do it
Where can I find the study cards (ankee cards)?
Thanks for info ALSO, that is a sweet painting in hour background👌.
Thank you! Cheers!
Hey do you recommend getting dions video courses? When we have messers there . I really like Messers way of teaching.
Both are good
So if you pass this certification with no prior knowledge. If you get a job will they expect you to know exactly how to do everything? Since you are certified by CompTIA. Or will they give you On the job training? I’m just worried that now I am certified that they will expect me to know everything (which I don’t).
No, they won't expect you to know everything. My jobs are on the job training
Excellent video! If you can't break it down Barney style to somebody you don't know enough about it
Hi! Are you suggesting this for anyone who is not into any classes of such & just starting out?
is the book you recommend really much different from CompTia's book?
No, I just find it easier to read.
Thanks for this helpful video.
I appreciate your advice throughout the video. I have one question that I can’t seem to get an answer to online. I’m new to IT on a technical side, but I’ve always been technology savvy . What do we need to know prior to taking SYO 501 & 601? Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Network+ and A+ base knowledge would be beneficial. A year of experience would also give you really good context. Other than that nothing really
@@nicoleenesse thanks for the insight!
I really wish I saw this video 3 weeks ago when I started studying for my exam. I take my Sec+ next Friday wish me luck lol
I'm going to start doing the active recall and asking myself what something is, if I don't know ill go read that portion in the book again.
It is very useful! That way you can gauge how much you are retaining
@@Moose185 read through the book on parts that you find difficult, active recall is good, truly understanding the concepts will help you tremendously
@@xdptwin1 did you pass? 😎
@@ThisisFerrariKhan yes sir! I started my first IT job in August, I graduated in May 😎😎
Hi!, Where's the link to the Anki Flashcards?
i call bs. i have been trying to get this done for 3 months. i cancelled my exam 3 times because i am not ready
There is never a perfect moment
I hope you finally passed but it took me less than 5 hours to prepare and pass the test but that is a misleading answer because I am a cybersecurity student and most of the things were just a self reminder...you might as well say it took me a year if that is taken into consideration.
How did you gain the knowledge for the configuration of hardware and software tools?
I had previous work experience
I'm impressed with your accomplishment. How many hours a day did you study in 30 days to pass? I'm trying to figure out if I can do it in 30 days or not. Thank you
You make that look easy lol but I will try it when I go for my Network+ and CCNA, thank you for the video
Awesome!
do you have to take and pass the network + before you take the security +?
No
thanks for this great video. I loved it.I can't access the Anki cards .I downloaded it but it does not work. any idea?
There haven't been any updated for the 601 yet!! I have been searching

How did you land a job in cyber sec?
I'm little confused, first you said don't study from the book but then you said go through the book?
skim the book to get a good idea of what is going on
Thanks for flashcard but I see 501 exam and not 601
501 cards are applicable to 601 test

I am a college going student and interested in compTIA security+ . Can I take the exam without any IT experience???
I mean is there any requirements before taking the exam
You can take the exam with no experience!
What's the latest version of CompTIA A+ ??

@@nicoleenesse Thank You 👍
Hi, I have a question?? What would you recommend to me if I don't have any background on that field, and I'm considering taking the Google IT support certificate or el CompTia A+??
Well, the Google IIT support cert prepares you for the CompTIA A+
@@nicoleenesse oohhhh great thanks
After gaining a good IT foundation, would say skills/knowledge from Security + would be enough to get you an entry level, or at least an internship in cyber security?
It would be a good base, I would aim for internship but also do some projects to put on your resume
Hi, is there a difference between studying the compTIA security+ sy0-501 vs sy0-601? I noticed a difference in price for the books. Thanks!
No it is the same. I do have an updated video coming out soon tho!

I hope so too!
@@nicoleenesse Thanks🙂🙂
Did you take the 601 or 501?
Is Boson questions worth the $100? Considering the test is $320-$350
Yes, it really helps you grasp the material..which is what taking the test is all about
@@nicoleenesse does it help with hands on learning? If not what does?
Why cant most IT videos be like this? pretty chick, informative, detailed, current (and not retrospective or lame guessing)
Ahh, thank you!!
Very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Hey Nicole I want to get my sec + 601 certification, but I don't know where to start whats the first step?
Skim the exam objectives to get a good idea what you are getting into
What are you able to do with the Security+ certification in terms of employment. Is it just the start of many more courses before you land anything. I seen the jobs at the comptia website but they seem to ask for a lot more when you look at their qualifications.
Sec+ alone is not worth that much but it is great when u combine it with other certs and ur exp, example can be solid networking cert as CCNA and sec+ can land u an noc, soc position, u can also go with deeper with cybersec but it is not junior friendly
There are tons of jobs that want to see security+. It would be helpful to landing a helpdesk job if you have no experience.
Hey Nicole! Great video. I’m currently reading through this comptia info preparing for my exam. I have some questions I would like to ask you. Do you have an email or something where I could reach you? If not I understand. Have a good day !
Nicole@nicoleenesse.com
Any advice on performance based questions plz??
For that you will need to practice
Hi, this video is really helpful! I want to break into Cybersecurity. Should I start with Security+ or CCNA?
Security+
I'd recommend ITF+, A+, Network+, CCNA and then Security +, don't run before you can walk.
Security+ can help you quite a bit in landing a job as it is a requirement for any business with a gov contract. A+ and Net+ are less important as they are basic compared to Sec+
Also David Bombal hosts other cyber professionals that answer this question for you in more detail. It appears the field is changing and valuing applicants with hands on experience and drive over degrees
Great advice
Thanks
how many hours a day did you study for it
How many hours per day did u study?
The objective should always be to master the content and not to pass the exam. If you master the content it’s inevitable that you pass the exam.
