This guy is one of the most beautiful yet tortured souls I’ve ever known of. It is astonishing that he’s still with us. Thank God that he is, and that he finally found himself.
JoPa GeRi I’ve often thought the same myself. Many consider Clapton a repugnant human, (see his lathered up, anti-black tirades during the mid 70’s, his alleged mistreatment of his wife, among other incidents) but I’ve come to see him as just another human being who is simply doing the best that they can do having lived a live of intense, hidden grief. The shear number of untimely losses of friends/family in his life is pretty staggering. I can’t honestly say that I respect many of his statements or sentiments, but at the same time I can’t help but see him as a battered, hurting soul. His tunes are pretty solid, too.
Nobody is God on earth except God who created the heavens and earth. No man has that power. The fact that he didn't deny the claim during the interview is considered arrogant and purely false. I have no respect for Eric Clapton. Anyway his life hasn't been perfect. He lost his child later on. That's a sorrowful tragedy.
Rachelle Buchholz interestingly that was a sorta popular phrase during that time. you used to be able to see it written in the London tube stations along with killroy was here and frodo lives
He wasn’t a drunk as in a tramp with brown bag and cheap cider unable to speak coherently. He was a functioning alcoholic. There are many people living like that. He probably had a few beers before this show with lunch, then after it finished went for dinner with the other guests and he would have polished a bottle of wine to himself and then after dinner everyone else would have called it a night but him and maybe one or two other alcoholics would have hit a late bar and slammed shots and a gallon of beer. Went to bed and then did it all again the next day. That’s a functioning alcoholic. That’s why it’s so dangerous and deadly addiction because they don’t see anything wrong in it. Not many alcoholics actually end up on the park bench with the brown bags.
I saw Clapton in 1974 at the Capital Center in Washington DC. It was an incredible concert. At the end, he walked off the stage and stepped right into an ambulance. He had played two hours on an overdose of heroin. No doubt, his brain was not present, but his fingers had little brains inside them. And he finished the show.
Clapton kicked out heroin completely in 1973, through an electro-acupuncture method. In 1974 he was sunk in alcohol and other drugs, mostly cocaine and marijuana.
That’s nonsense as he quit heroin in 72. By the time of 74 and the release of his Ocean Boulevard album he was off drugs but gaining a bad drinking habit
I saw him in Greensboro NC on the 74’ tour and he was obviously drunk. George Terry played a lot of the lead guitar. I had a balcony seat looking down and he was leaning against the organ playing rhythm guitar. He played lead but seemed content to kick back and didn’t really cut loose until Pete Townsend came out for the encore.
I'm like him when it comes to drinking and drugs we know how to hide it in public .but behind closed doors we can't hide it from our family's .i went to aaeeting in summer of 95 in Charlotte nc about 50 x drunks there went around the room introduce ourselves it got to him high I'm Eric Clapton in an alcoholic glad to be here in charollte .we found out he was in concert that weekend in charllote .his band members were with him I guess for sercurity .
Rory Gallagher was like Jimi Hendrix plus Eric Clapton plus srv plus Jimmy page plus Jim Morrison all rolled in one person ! It's just that he didn't go for artificial commercial musical gimmick and fame then ..
SO correct.....Add up ALL of the "best" guitarists from the '60's up to now, there has NEVER been anyone who could touch the late great RORY GALLAGHER. Makes Me proud to be An Irishman.
I think its because of the american origins of the blues, at least for artists who take influence from it. Same thing with Rory Gallagher, for example.
Clapton, cream ,with the Gibson guitar n Marshall amps will always be the best sound you can get outta guitar IMO and clapton will always be the best I have ever heard .no solo or playing will ever compere to cream farewell concert crossroads live its absolutely unbelievable.
I saw Muddy May 1st 1971 in Chapel Hill N.C. he was still recovering from a broken right leg. He was incredible and his band was too. Pinetop Perkins and a great harp player named Paul Oscher were among the members.
'Oh the interviewers this and that' - person 1 . Person 2 *video starts for a couple of seconds 'I'm enjoying this video now' * looks at person 1s comment - " oh the interviewers this and that, I don't enjoy this video as much now"
well i dont think jimmy page has a choreographer, or eddie van halen, but their fun to watch... LOL it would be weird if he randomly started doing that stuff..
Don't think its that English artists sound 'american', its just that you're so used to hearing them that they sound/sing normal to you. Clapton sounds about as American as Matt Belamy does IMO. English is English, accents are accents.
One can appreciate him being a bit honest now and then, but he never sits down and answers any questions from real musicians or guitarists who might probe him a bit. This is another interview with someone Clapper likes but does not know much about music.
Yes we do unfortchently & its either sound american or sound like Liam gallagher lol I think when you grow up listening to albums of american rock & blues singers it just seems to come out.
Excuse me, but I am only trying to help clarify as to why the Accents are not heard. Just Sharing what I know, to give others a better understanding. Thank You!!!
brenner, genuinely in awe of clapton, is a little shaky, like when he had the concussion in the bathtub. give the guy some credit: it's a good intervew.

Many of us hold onto our pain so tightly that it kills us. I’m happy he’s found a way to somehow live in the moment so to say.
Almost 35 years later, thankfully Eric is still with us.
ikr! and 60 total now omg
This should be titled "Eric Clapton listens to David Brenner"
Eric will always be the coolest without being anything but himself. Brilliant.
Shout out to the guys who screamed "Eric Clapton is God" in the beginning! You guys are the real Mvp

Gumball,
You're a total clown.
Gumball You indeed are a total clown
Gumball
You are a parody of youself
Clapton looks like a really cool good looking dude here. 9-10 years after this he'd be playing some of the best blues guitar you ever heard
Eric the love of my life😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You wouldn't think that Eric was still a drunk here. He was good at hiding it
There's probably a few functioning alcoholics around you that you'd never guess are.
Princes music helped him overcome he said
I think Eric went into rehab in 1982.
@@johnnyozelius6852 he went to rehab more than once.

Wow that’s insane! I suppose he thought being engaged in the music would keep him up and awake
Clapton kicked out heroin completely in 1973, through an electro-acupuncture method. In 1974 he was sunk in alcohol and other drugs, mostly cocaine and marijuana.
I think I was at that one- (in Landover, MD). It was so much fun- (they were passing around bongs, in the audience).

No wonder David Brenner doesn't have a show today. He's got Eric Clapton sitting there and he keeps talking about himself.
MizQue Z Funny
Even though Eric probably loved it because he doesn’t like talking about himself.
Brenner's not even funny.
Many famous ppl are EMPTY SUITS who used cheating methods to get rich or famous.
It was a great back and forth . Not sure what you are talking about .
Ya you're nuts lmao, this was a fantastic interview and they are friends. You don't know either of them. They knew eachother for years before this.
Clapton is ridiculously good looking here 7520
If you click randomly 100 times on the timeline, the damn interviewer will be talking in 97 of those clicks. Shut up an let the important person talk!
I fucking love this man. Period.
Eric ,you are the man.
Where is he? It looks like a reception at a hotel. Why is he talking to that loud receptionist?
These are two things I never saw going together...
Hey you like Clapton
Come here often?....
As If I find a comment from David firth on a clapton video I decide to watch at 5 in the morning hahaha
slowhand doesnt talk very much ever. but when he does its always cool.
blueovaltrucks slow hand ✔️
He's so handsome classy & talented
Exactly my thought. The guy keeps talking about himself and comparing, in long monologues, his experiences with Clapton's.
Clapton on Stevie Ray Vaughan... "I can't follow that guy".... He's too good...
SRV was better than Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Eddie Van Halen......Hell everybody!

Eric is incredibly handsome.
Slowhand has reinvented him else so many times, it would make your head spin.
a year before he got sober, kept composure well.
He got sober the year I was born 1987.
I remember watching that David Brenner show and thinking who are these old men. Now I see how pretty young they are
Lord he looks good here. Even as a functioning alcoholic
Never seen this one before. Thanks for the upload!
Legend....they did well to get Eric in 1986 when he wasn't pissed!
That's why my middle name is Eric. I love clapton always a father of guidance
What a way to spend the time talking about yourself having Eric Clapton as your guest
Wow - the interviewer really suited up...

David Brenner interviews himself. Shut up and ask Eric questions and let him talk. One chance in a lifetime blown.
Such a fine man
When they call any guitarist God then Rory Gallagher just smile at them and keeps on playing without being bothered !
Rory Gallagher, the unsung legend of the blues
Comments like this are like reading old school liner notes.
Never heard of him. Going to look him up now.

Well not all English singers, but in the case of Clapton, he grew up listening to American blues music and probably tried his best to copy that sound.
Well dressed interveiwer NOT..

Eric is shy by nature so...was he drunk or using here??
Not a bad interview. Clapton was in the mood for talking though
He looks like peter weller the giy that played the original robocop
Nope, he was pretty messed up around this time. He became permanently sober in 1987 (I think in November).
show the music he played from this show that would be great thanks
Can anyone identify the watch Clapton is wearing here?
Eric is about as cool as they come.
he learned everything from muddy waters, he has depression
