Hmm that's a very good point! I'll give that a try tomorrow and see if it feels noticeably different. Because you're usually braking in a straight line it's probably not a dramatic difference but definitely worth investigating! :)
Good idea mate. Mine are both centrally mounted so I get even force regardless of the corner. It's just how I rigged it up the straps on the cross bar on the V2 Ultimate Rig. It might make a difference. Although I'm pretty happy with the tension I get. In VR the whole thing with the belt force too is really convincing! :)
You would think they need to be crossed but in the right-hand corner in the video, boosted media pointed to his left-shoulder and said you can really feel it in the shoulder. So maybe they don't have to be crossed?
Great video mate. Glad you liked it. I did this mod to mine as at first I was underwhelmed by the braking motion out of the box. It wasn't till I did this that the whole rig just clicked. I think it almost adds another degree of freedom to the motion for free. Since the straps only add load in forward motion, the load effect is the number of kg required to pull the bungee strap. So if it takes 10kg to extend the strap, that's the extra weight load applied to the forward motion. That said, since it's effectively a spring load, it also removes that extra load when the motion rig wants to pull back and actually assists the motor. So... Quid pro quo really. Really liked your reaction. It's exactly what I did with mine. My mate did the same to his and same reaction too. Why the rig doesn't come with this mod is beyond me. Next time I go down to NLR, I'll take a mod kit with me and show them first hand. :)
Instead of using bungies I used the 30 inch solid rubber ones that come with s hooks. They are much stronger. I placed them through an eye hook (attached to floor behind and to the side of my DOF P6) and attached both ends to the belt. After testing it ocurred to me that you would get more even pressure from cornering if you crossed the rear belts. It worked now both belts tighten when turning. Try it for yourself.
I found that this works a lot better if the Shoulder harnesses can be mounted to something solid at shoulder height. I previously had a wall behind my rig and i attached them directly to the wall. I have now moved the rig and attached the belts to the chassis as you have done but I notice it is not as good. I am now going to build a framework behind the chair to replicate the wall. I also use a double reduction pulley (in reverse) to amplify the movement of the chair.
There is an active seat belt tensioner that you can build yourself that uses small servos to tighten and loosen. Just google it and you'll probably find it from a guy named "Seattime".
I have a 6DOF motion rig with a huge amount of travel. With this belt setup: pitch ,roll, and heave would smash me... so I'm planning to route the straps from shoulders down the back of the seat, (use a rachet strap to add length and quick adjustments) forward under the seat to the front by my knees, over a polished smooth rod or pulley and back to the floor base at the back. So I'll feel the belts tension up when the seat translates forward (brake surge) but the geometry should allow for full roll, pitch, and heave without tension. I would like the cross shoulder effect with sway (cornering) effects; I could run the front side of the strap through the seat and across to the other side.. that would work, and it would add effects to heave motion as well.
Your defiantly on the right track Will. I had my harnesses solidly mounted initially and nearly broke my collar bones! 😄 Ocky straps probably won’t last that long though. Steel springs might be the answer.
I was originally going to use springs but struggled to find something that wasn’t too strong. The occy straps should last ok though as they’re not being stretched to anywhere near their limits.
Tried this today with great expectations. However I was seriously underwhelmed. Did the belts tighten? Yes ever so slightly, but far from noticeable unless you really are paying attention to it during driving. I use a real 6 point race harness, and race with it fairly tight, so that might be the reason. Tried to tighten the bungee, and double up on bungee cord, but still not as I was expecting. I guess to make this work you have to have the belts very loose to feel the tighten. But my interest is spiked, so need to look at belt tensioner motors now. :)
I don't have a motion platform, just a playseat challenge I've pimped out, but I might try hooking a bungee strap to my brake pedal and attach the other end to the seat belt behind the seat, so that when I depress it, it will tighten the seat belt. Could be a very budget DIY solution to get a similar effect.
@@00Clive00 I'm gonna try this soon hopefully it works out. Do you think a big piece of plywood is needed for the whole playseat or just the part to attach the pulleys to it?
@@DVZ_91 For it to work effectively, I'm thinking one pulley will have to be higher than your shoulder, just make sure you get a rock solid fixing on the playseat frame, I've used lots of "25 mm universal handlebar rear view mirror mount M8 motorcycle" Google that if you need some, by far the best way to fix things to the playseat challenge.
