The Swiss announced last week that he will not play in any further Grand Slams or on the ATP Tour after the Laver Cup, but told Barbara Schett in an exclusive interview for Eurosport that he wanted to bring the curtain down on his career alongside old rival Rafael Nadal.

I like what Toni Nadal said about Federer, that he's the purest tennis player, never caused any distraction to the opponent, never tried to use psychological tactics, just went up to the line and played the next point, and won with class, didn't pump his fist in anyone's face. Roddick said the same, after the Wimbledon '09 final, Federer told his team in the locker room not to make too much noise because he knew Roddick was hurting.

Roger is just an intelligent, smart and down to earth guy, as he shows in this interview, seeming so calm and at peace with himself. Yet I think that on this sunday a lot of tears will flow on both sides of the TV screen. - I think all of his qualities helped him a lot in his career as a pro and will help him a lot in his "new" life. And I´m sure that Laver Cup won´t be the last time we will see him wield a tennis racket - senior tournaments are ahead, where players like Connors or McEnroe already set high standards, and Roger will raise them.

I think he was way more mature in 2019. And any grand slam coming his way at that age was a bonus whereas losing the 2008 final at his peak on his preferred surface hurt him much more at the time. As a Roger fan, that final still hurts me more too as compared to the 2019 final. And the damage for that was done in the 2008 French Open when Nadal was already in his head.

Unfortunately he's the GOAT of choking too! So many chances to get 30 slams but it seemed God wanted him to end like this!

Roger will be around . . . . . just not in the same capacity. He will continue to influence and help others . . . just not in the same way. Love you Roger! From a petulant young player to a player who has bloomed not only as a player but a human being. Influenced others not only on the court but off. Just incredible to watch. Your relationship with Rafa - so touching. Thank you for all the memories. I appreciate you so much. Lucky to have been witness to all of this.

I’d LOVE to see Fed to play Laver Cup doubles with Rafa for a final match in his career. And/Or even to play a singles match-win or lose. Would be meaningful and much appreciated by all his fans. He’s given the game so much over the years, and that is an understatement.

Deep down we know 2019 Wimbledon was the biggest heartbreak, Roger just doesn’t wanna admit it. Was has last chance to win a slam. He had it. 2 championship points.

Roger you are welcome to visit Baywood RC in Greenville, NC to do an exhibition game now since you retired. We already had a Wimbledon winner playing with us once before. Great opportunity to meet some great players here.

It really doesn't need to count number of slams won to ascertain the GOAT for these guys. Roger, Rafael, Novak. They already are. AO reminds me of Djokovic. FO reminds me of Nadal. And WO reminds me of Federer. Gonna miss Roger for now but i know the best is yet to come for him.
