I always wonder why Ventnor Haven doesn't encourage private boats to tie up for a fee. There used to be a suggestion that pleasure boats _could_ stay there, but it only ever seems to be fishing boats. Surprising because there's almost always plenty of space for more boats, and the owners could add an extra pontoon if they wanted to make some cash. But they show no inclination to profit from the visitor mooring space they have there. Ventnor would be a great place to moor overnight before an early start for crossing to Cherbourg in daylight. If yachtsmen can moor securely, they will shop and dine in the town. At the moment that only happens in very settled weather when boats can anchor in the bay.
