He a DAWG on the court, leaves it all on the court game-in, game-out. Only concern is the injuries cuz he so aggressive going to hoop most times, but thats how it is for most players with his caliber type play.
Has so many different tools in his arsenal making him incredibly difficult to guard. Every single aspect of his game has exponentially grown since entering the league and he’s truly become one of the best at his position
He has the potential to be an all-time great SG the way he can score from anywhere and defend anybody on the wing. I just don't see him playing with the same ferocity every game. He'll honestly look legendary for 12 min, and then disappear for 2 quarters. I want him to snatch the reigns from Jayson Tatum and become that dude instead of deferring. Maybe I'm expecting too much, but you can see his ridiculous finishing ability, pull ups, and handles that remind me 2008 Kobe Bryant.
I agree with this! But I also keep in mind when I’m watching this happen that it’s been tough for him because he was artificially slotted in behind Tatum even when he was just as good if not better. When Kyire left finally, Tatum was handed the keys and Jaylen was still just seen as basically a side piece. That first year Jaylen scored over 20 a game while being 5th on the team in touches and shot like 48/40 all year. Tatum ended up having a fantastic run post all star, but the first half of the year Tatum shot around 40/30 and barelt scored more than JB, JB was the clear pick for all star( or both!) but since Tatum was the one who was chosen as the long term #1 to build( which did make sense) Jaylen didn’t start to see the type of volume he should have simple based on his play. JB has actually never had any role jusr handed to him. He just played so well and exceeded expectations that eventually the Celtics found themselves with a player who is literally capable of scoring 30 a night as the primary guy playing next to JB. I remember the 2018 playoff run, JB averaged 18.3 to Tatums 18.5, AND had more 30 point games( Tatum had 0 I think) ANd those numenrs were actually deflated a little since he got hurt and had to play on a little minutes restriction during part of the early ohilly series. Tatum is finally showing right now that he DESERVES the clear #1 spot, and I think that is a huge reason for the Celtics success and everyone buying into their roles. I think it was hard at times before because Jaylen was honestly a more efficient player, even as his volume increased, but yet they would still always run things through Tatum and run sets for Tatum and JB was just supposed to find little cracks in time to get his 25 a game! So er I g we rarely see any secondary scorers do at that level. I think there was just a bit of weirdness, like “ok umm…soo everyone sees that JB is better right? But Tatum gets to be the star cuz he’s going to be better?” It just made things a bit weird. But now that Tatum has made that leap and finally proved that he IS truly better, I think it’s been easier for Jaylen to embrace being an elite #2. Everybring sort of falling into place. I think that is also another reason for why the Jays didn’t pass enough until now. There was sort of an unspoken competition going on between them. JT is a very self aware person, so I’m sure part of him felt weird and insecure about how JB was sort of..better than him? And scoring nearly as much on better efficiency and the noise that JB was better really started to heat up. So sometimes I think subconsciously JT would sabotage JB when he was having one of those HOT runs, and JT would be in the middle of a slow start. Instead of constndlty feeding the hot hand, I saw him turn down a wide open JB more than a few times and instead try to get himself going. Sort of like he started to get insecure about how “shit, JB is on another tear and he’s better than me and I need to get my poonts to prove I deserve all of this hype…” etc etc. clearly they are past that. Thank God! And I don’t think it was ever intentional. I think it was emotional you know? Competitive. And it wasn’t antones fault. The Celtics made the right move makong Tatum #1, giving him a couple years to adjust, and also made the right call not trading JB. I think JBs overachieving self just made it hard until JT finally became what he is today and made it easier for the roles to be what they are. I’ve heard SO many former great leaders and current stars who have won a lot, but also lost a lot, say that one of THE most important things is for everyone to have a very defined role and also love that role and want it to be their role and embrace it. That is what we are seeing. Marcus also has wanted to be a ball-in-hand elite playmaker for a couple years now, but we all felt that was crazy cuz what we saw was him taking ineffective shots as a spot up guy off the Js. Now that has corrected itself as well. He is getting more of a chance to be a true Pg, and showing he has elite passing skills, while also being smarter about what shots he takes and being ready to shoot open and efficient 3s when teams collapse on the Js, and the Js are embracing that role for themselves, always making the right pass to the open teammate instead of thinking “are they going to make this?” I think when you always pass to your teammates as if they are going to make it every time it truly makes them better shooters vicariously
@@schuylersavage276 I don't really agree with some of what you said. I've watched both of them their whole careers. I've been a big JB fan, but Tatum was always the better shot creator, shooter, ball-handler, and passer, and Tatum routinely faces a lot more defensive attention. JB used to turn the ball over a lot, used to dribble the ball off his foot, and really had to work on a lot of things. But that speaks to his work ethic, since it's crazy how much he's improved from how raw he was his rookie year. I haven't seen many players like it. But it wasn't until the 2019-2020 season where JB started to show improvements in his handle and shot creation ability. And then, last year, he really stepped up his game to another level as a shot creator, at one point shooting like 60% from the midrange. The main thing is, Tatum's ability to create offense, his ball handling, and his size puts a lot of pressure on defenses, is why so much action goes through him. He routinely gets doubled, which allows things to open up for other players, including JB, who can play off-ball as a cutter, shooter, which is why it's stupid when people say the Jays can't play together. Tatum has really shown his playmaking ability this year, but even in previous years he showed better passing vision. Overall, it makes sense why so much action went through Tatum the last few years. Jaylen still needs to improve his passing. However, Jaylen I think easily could become a top 10 player in the league, and it's just amazing how much he's grown.
I appreciate his score first mentality and ability to put the ball in the basket but if he can learn to make those extra passes and reads then the Celtics could really have 2 generational talents playing in their primes😬. Can't wait to see what they can do in the playoffs
