Please note Low Swr is good and high return loss is also good ! Apologies for the confusion !

A RigExpert is a must have for hams. If you like building and testing your own antennas, then this device is an absolute utility.
Nice video. - KF0QNM, 73 from the USA.

I have just ordered an AA-650 Zoom from ML&S following your review David - and look forward to receiving and putting it to good use. John M7JCZ.

I didn't see 4m on the predefined bands? I take it that it will still test that band if you key it in?

Nice video. With TDR I think you can determine the velocity factor of coax if you know the length . I can do that with my VNA . also I can get cap rating of coax. That rigexpert should do all that as well. You can switch to 75 OHM mode as well to check delay and phasing lines also for SAT and TV coax testing. That is a very handy tool . Cheers from NY/ USA ! Your video's help so many all around the world !

10:27 what? return loss has nothing to do with the loss of the transmission line (such as coaxial cable). loss that occurs in a transmission line is called attenuation. return loss is a measure of how much of the RF signal that's being generated is reflected back to the source and it indicates an impedance match or mismatch within a system. high return loss is desirable in case of loads such as antennas because it indicates that most of the RF energy is getting used up at the load rather than reflected back.
while you can measure coax attenuation with devices such as portable VNAs, and even the with RigExpert VNAs, it's wrong and misleading to say that return loss is an indication of cable attenuation. no offence but your presenters should be more careful while talking to a wide audience about things they don't fully understand.

Guys while this is a very nicely presented video, the standard falls well below of what the norm is for the channel. I counted at least 4 bum steers that could confuse someone new to Amateur Radio. 1.Return loss, 2.RX chart and resonance, 3. Coax VF- only needed for some functions, 4.Calibration - Needed at times to null out coax to obtain a true reading. I think Dave does a great job presenting and enjoy really seeing him in these videos. I just dont want to see newbies perhaps viewing it out of context. I love Rigexpert gear and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone.

I picked up on the return loss higher is better not lower, every newbie will be going for low return loss now.

In TDR mode is the measurent starting from the analyser end as i bought some ultraflex 7 from you last week n theres a break in it n dont want to throw the whole lot away? Its on the outer the break i know that .....

You got it wrong a higher return loss is better not lower return loss.

Yes, unless you are just measuring the coax without an antenna.

low swr is good obviously, its the the other way around with return loss higher is better not lower as you mention in the video . 73
