The Cheapest Motorized DIY Standing Desk On Amazon

- If you're a do-it-yourselfer on a budget and are looking to upgrade to a motorized standing desk, you should consider one of the many electric standing desk frames on Amazon. The cheapest dual-motor unit I found, which can hold up to 225 pounds, costs only $200 and works with all sorts of different desk tops. Chances are you have a stationary desk at home, so why spend hundreds of dollars more on an all-in-one unit when you can pick up just the motorized frame?

Hello everyone! We made a follow-up video, mentioning some concerns and comparing it against an all-in-one motorized standing desk from FlexiSpot.
You can watch it here: ua-cam.com/video/vnA5zyxkWL0/v-deo.html
Great video, thank you for sharing. I have wanted a sit/stand desk for a while now but could not justify the cost. This makes it possible.
Bought this desk and man! I'm very impressed with the quality. guys if you're in the market for a dual motor desk this is the one! I have no doubts in this product. this video helped a lot with this purchase.
Is it steady? Does it wobble?
Great video!!! I was thinking about this item I wasn't sure until now. Thanks again for sharing!!
Awesome video and nice presentation. Saw the video just on time and decided to go for the same Frame and similar top (IKEA), saving me hundreds of £'s. Thanks.
Awesome. Just what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing.
Like the way you presented this vid, thanks man.
Wow you are awesome. I have been wanting to add this exact riser frame to my setup with the exact same desktop and wasn’t sure how well it would work so I kept holding off. Now I think I will pull the trigger on it. Thanks dude!
Haha wow, that's awesome! Feel free to shoot me a pic of your setup when it's all done @beauhd on Twitter. 😁
@@BeauHD thanks for the great video .. how steady is the desk when standing? Is it wobbly? Thank you
@@knoma2099 Nope, it's not wobbly. Helps to have a heavy tabletop too. Also, I believe there are plastic pads underneath each legs that can be raised or lowered to help reduce wobble.
@@BeauHD how is it a year later? Any complaints like any at all?
@@ararix3722 Still using it as my daily desk and it continues to work well. The only complaint is that it could raise/lower faster but that's really it. It stopped working once but I just reset the control panel and it started working again without any issues.
Instantly recognized the brydge in the background! Awesome vid, thank you
A sick desk is the sign of a clean mind.
Thanks for this video! Such a better option for me because of the price.
Great video. I saw this on Amazon and wondered if it was any good. Obviously it is. Thanks
thanks ! I found a desk I been looking for
This was really helpful, thank you!
Thanks, this was super helpful!
How stable is the desk when it is raised? Is there any wobble (side-to-side) motion?
this question needs more upvotes. cheap usually means less stable so it would be nice to know.
I found some that look nicer because I didn’t want to go with “cheap”. Plus, I am going to build a copy of the Lian Li out of wood so it’ll be heavy.
@@schwartzmatthewe I'm thinking about buying this and adding a track to the wall to ensure stability
I got this and is brilliant. I have 4 monitor setup. I have added M10 castors which makes it easier to move around
@@sashankthag12 sorry if this sounds stupid but how did you attach wheels to this thing? Also do wheels help it stop wobbling less?
every desk can be height ajustable with the right tool , this is real budget idea right here
Welp, you just saved me a ton of money and stress. I have a ton of spare desk tops this is perfect!
Definitely digging this..
thank you. great video.
Thanks for sharing! The double motor on the desk is a plus for me. The lack of a cable mgmt tray is surprising, but between Lowe’s and Walmart I can fashion something. The tabletop looked very much like the trending one from ikea. I thought about taking the top off of my current writing table to use, but the top from ikea is more aesthetically pleasing. So, now that I’ve finished the general painting; it’s on to the accent wall and place my Amazon and ikea orders. God bless and stay safe. 👍🏾😊
Hey im currently looking for a similar table top to the one he has and the one your mentioning sounds promising, but I cant find the tabletop, can u link me the one you were talking about?
@@shomariboulet I didn't buy the tabletop for my office...decided to use my old writing desk that i've had for a lot of years. The tabletop I saw was on the ikea website. Also, I recall seeing some great looking tops at Lowe's in the kitchen counter top section...theirs were heavier (in weight) and cost more than the ikea table tops. Good success in your efforts. Peace.
@@e.conwaybryansr.8626 Thank you
that looks really nice bro
bro you solved my problem really love you
How wobbly is the desk? I have a vonhaus electric standing desk and it drives me mad with the wobble. Thanks
Nice video!
How is it holding up? Was it worth? Been looking to buy one and I might go for a similar model.
You answered my question. I have this super tall king size bed that I want a bed table for. Tablets, drinks, smoke sesh, etc... With a 7' wide bed it has to be custom made. Trust me, I've been looking for a king side bed table. Only one I found was nearly $1,500. Hard pass! Glad you mentioned that it can be modified. Wasn't sure if the motor cables would be long enough. Glad I found your video. Thanks!
Note: They offer the option of cable management baskets. Not super cute, but could help.
That Karlby Top is Huge and it fits it that well 😳😳👀 NGl it makes me want to grab a countertop with this similar type of setup from ikea
Searching for "Ikea countertop" lists a variety of tops that I think should work, ranging from $50 -$250 depending on how nice the wood is. I'm surprised that wasn't mentioned in the video or comments, that I saw. I'm seriously considering doing this, after seeing how well it worked.
If he mentioned this then his thumbnail would be a lie.
wow great idea!
It's a talented video! I love your video. I respect you. I support you.👍
Appreciate you!!
Lol dude your too good at this UA-cam thing, your review made me laugh with Joy will probably get this:)
Thanks bro! I think this is my calling
never even knew they had those, thanks
Great video! I’m stuck between a stationary desk or a standing desk for my next set up. I just don’t want to spend a lot of the frame. $200 isn’t the worst
I'm going to be getting a corner desk one.
Thanks for sharing! Any chance you can check the motors manufacturer?
awesome!
Thank you !
I actually just found this exact same a few weeks ago and am very seriously considering doing this same thing with my desk.
So just over a year later - how has it held up? Are you still satisfied with it?
Thank you for sharing. Question for you. Can you place the controls on either side of the desk? Thanks.
In step 2, I'm finding it very difficult to get the short screws lined up in the frame. Did you have any issues or have any tricks to getting them tightened?
Yooo I think ima get this now
I would think the standing position puts your monitor a little low. Does the monitor adjust higher? I'm really wanting to redo my desk but countertop depth of only 24" doesn't work for me and everything else at Ikea is sold-out.
Hey, looks great! What are the dimensions of your tabletop? The one I have is a little over the recommended maximum and want to make sure that won't be a problem. And how's it holding up? Thanks!!
Mine is 2 months old and going strong. The worst part for me was waiting for the ÖVRARYD top to get back in stock at Ikea. I took his advice and saved a few hundred over the Ikea powered desk options.
Can't thank you enough. Black base and bamboo looks HOT.
How’s the wobbling?
How is it dude?
@@ararix3722 HOT
Where do you get the table top from and also you know you can cut the rgb strip to fight perfectly. It has cut lines on the strip showing where it’s safe to cut
Nice!
Just purchased the same one... thanks for the video - as I haven't put it together yet .
Update: Finally got around to building this... works perfectly - very pleased. Purchased and stained a butcher block counter top from Home Depot for the top.
@@slpcorner How is it holding up? Does it wobble?
@@slpcorner Does it wobble after these months?
What is the length of the table top you used?
I would consider this for at the end of the bed to put a TV facing me lol 😆
nice setup with that shed just inspired me bruh bruh
What a beautiful DIY you’ve done here for yourself. I’m super impressed. I’m not sure this approach will work for me, well at this very moment in time, maybe in the future tho 💯.
I’m curious how much the kitchen table top you found at IKEA ran you? As all in for a fully inclusive standing desk, maybe even one that comes with cable management, looks to run about $499.99-> upwards of $2500. Actually I think there are even pricier options out there too 🤣
Great video… 🤔 did I say that already 😉 🙋🏼♀️
This one is quite easy to assemble and setup, even with the non-DIY person. Also you can reuse your existing table top which can save you some money. I am going for one similar too and will arrive soon, too curious to see it. :)
Hey! Great video. Is the wood desk portion IKEA KARLBY?
Thank you for this well made video. I just ordered this from Amazon just because of you. Hope you get a kick back from them. I also subscribed!
how is it so far
Is it stable or wobbly?
Plebs reply
What kind of screws did you use on the countertop when placing it onto the motorised desk?
Just the normal Phillips head screw I reckon. they are included in the package I believe.
What amplifier do you use to connect your two bookshelf speakers?
Thanks! Do you think any wood table top would work?
the price went up its $700 for the topsky desk frame, but thanks for the idea im going to look for a standing desk frame for my setup!
Great video!
how is the desk holding up?
Thank you for the video. Does your desk have wobble when it's standing position? Mine wobbles when I am typing on the keyboard. Its solidly on the ground. Do you have any suggestions?
Awesome.,,.
this is the best: ikea counter top + desk frame!
this way it's easy to build 74" or even 98" width desks...
great idea. i should have done the same! oh well. next time! :)
Desk frames doesn’t support more than 74” tops
@@AJCoReTV If you're only putting stationary/general items on the sides it doesn't particularly matter, providing the weight isn't above the motorised leg limit and the items at the edge don't cause the table to bend/crack it's golden.
What voltage is necessary for it to work?
question
could you possibly install the controller for the motor on the left side instead of the right?
p.s. setup looks sick man cheers
didnt know this was an option. nice
I bought the same desk. Do you know where I could get another extension cord for the motors, aside from the manufacturer?
Nice
Thanks for sharing this video. Could you share the screw size and length? My table top is 140 by 60cm and weighing 21kg. I am not sure what kind of screw to hold it securely in place. Thanks in advance.
Hello, Congratulations Cool. 👍. Smart.
Soooooooooo Cool
does standing desk transform your macbook in to an imac?
nice
I want to buy a desk frame and ship it with me when I'm heading home but my desk stuff is not heavy.... would you recommend a electric desk frame that is not heavy?
Can you do a desk update video for long term review?
Did you pre drill holes when you installed the top? Or you just screwed it in without pre drilling holes?
whats the light your using it looks clean
It's $249 at this moment. How do you like it after a year?
Hi,
Where did you get the top from? Do you have a link? Thanks
You think this would work with the longer Karlby countertop??
Could you give some feedback how its doing?
Can you link your tabletop as well? Thanks!
What desktop do you have? I like the size.
Nice, could you include the link for the Ikea desk itself?
I know I’m hella late but what’s the name of that desk top and where did u get it from
Super
Cool video.. Which IKEA table is that, if I may ask?
Do you have a link to the countertop?
Would this work with an IKEA saljan countertop?
Are you able to install a tray on to the counter top for the cable management?
I did…I bought a white metal tray from Amazon and it hides everything! Super sturdy.
Two questions: how long have you had it and how is it holding up over time?
Update: It's holding up well! At one point I had to reset the control panel because it was giving me an error message / not working. But it's possible I maxed out the weight, causing it to stop working. A reset fixed things and it continues to work well with little issues 2-3 months later.
I bought it a few months ago what they say is if the lights went out the memory of the system is lost so you make it go down all the way and hold the down button and it resets
@@BeauHD how do you reset ?
Will it be stable with a 55” tv as a monitor?
cool, it is a pity not our brand frame, haha.
Where did you get the light
Can you give a link to the ikea kitchen countertop ?
I don't know if you read comments but what type of little sofa is that i need that
Nice video.. Please let me know the depth of the table top
is there any possiblity to automate this height adjustment process
Hi! What’s the size of your ikea countertop?
I only had the maidesite standing desk available in my region they don't deliver that one here unfortunately.
Does it makethat big of a difference if the countertop is 74"?
