Two years ago I was 500 miles from home and my bike started acting like the carb had taken a dump on me. I limped into a dealership almost 50 miles away. I bought a kit and rebuilt the carb in the parking lot, reinstalled it, no change. I pulled it off and re-did it again, put it back on, no change. The third time I pulled it off, I looked at my intake seal and I had a gash almost a quarter inch long. I replaced it, reinstalled the carb, made minor adjustments, and it runs like a champ...
I rebuilt my carb several times and changed the jets. I still can't get my bike to idle and run nicely. Is it possible that there is a problem with the top end? 06 883. I forgot to mention that I replaced the carb with an Amazon carb. Like you did months ago.
These EVO Sportster motors are about bullet proof, so that is the last place I would go. I would look into the Carb to intake seal and the Intake to Cylinder seals. An easy test is to get the bike warm, let it idle and spray some carb cleaner or brake cleaner around those seals. If the idle speed changes, then you have found your problem. If not, double check the float level and cleanliness of the needle seat, jets, passages in the carb. Also, the Idle Air adjustment screw has an O ring, a spring and some washers that need to be installed in the correct order, check that too. Also start with it 1 3/4 turns out from seated. It will probably need a little more out after warm up. Throw in a new set of plugs for good measure. That should get you there! If not, a new carb, the one I used is only $43 these days. Maybe you got a bad one, happens sometimes, the chinese factory QC. I will reply again with the link to the carb I used from Amazon, GOOD LUCK! You can figure it out!! Let Me Know!
