in this video i go over the Neoden yy1 after 6 months of use and about 20,000 components picked and placed. The picking needle has started to fail so i also replace the needle in this video.
over all i'm still happy with the machine even with its faults.

Thank you for the video. I am considering getting one of these, and your videos are very helpful. It looked like you were able to get the allen wrench in the head of that 2nd screw...if so, would you be able to unscrew that screw without disassembling the solenoid mechanism, and fully remove the screw after you have the mechanism detached? May be easier than disassembling the plunger in situ.

Following your YY1 videos quite closely.....would love one myself! Perfectly sized for my workshop/production line.

yeah for the price and its capabilities its hard to find anything else that compares. its got its issues and ill be interesting to see how it fairs over the years instead of months. but i definitely couldn't produce my products at speed without it.

Hi Paul, I'm on the fence about changing to 0603 on some LED's on my boards. I have the YY1, and yes, the demonstration board that came with it seems to show accurate placement,, but I'm very nervous since I have been using 1206 for years. Should I relax and go for it? Also, what is your favorite solder paste? I've been using the NC191AX35 63/37 T4 from Chipquick (leaded), but I would like to go lead free if I find something with good wetting. I have an improvement of the light filter on the downlooking camera of the YY1 in one of the videos on my page. It greatly improves the ability to find fiducials.

I've had so many issues since I received mine last year. Neoden hasn't been really helpful either. I just can't get the machine to place components in the same location twice. When adjusting locations, I can cycle through a few parts and then when I cycle back through them they are off again. I also sometimes have issues when powering on the main screen won't turn on or gets 'stuck' at initializing. The cover tape peeler mechanism is very finicky and often pulls the feeder tape through even though I've changed the friction devices in the cover tape pinch wheel. Most recently the machine started randomly changing the program during programming as weird as that sounds. Had hoped that after many months of trial I would be past these issues. Just can't recommend this machine to anyone really. I suppose for 0805 and larger passive components it might be worth it but for fine pitch ICs and 0402 parts it just cant be relied on.

I'm sorry to hear you've had such bad issues. I've been able to reliably place 0603 components, and I've placed sot723 components with little issues occasionally one might be off a little bit, but the usually find their place when I reflow the board.
As far as your stuck on initialization issue. Mines started to do the same thing. I've found if it's stuck on a black screen if I press on the connector in the back of the screen it starts up and once it gets stuck on the initialization screen just tap the screen a couple times to get it to go.

I have been using this machine for about 2 months. So far, I haven't had any problems with it, not even with 0402 or XSON6 (SOT886) components. Indeed, at first there was a random deviation when placing the components, then I discovered that it was due to the flexibility/vibrations of the table on which it was placed. I built a solid table that I placed and these deviations disappeared. For a budget machine, it is perfect.

I've had mine now for about 3 months. I have the same issue of not placing parts consistently. Neoden just sent me a new machine to replace the first one because it was damaged in shipping and very inconsistent. This new one is better but still no reliability in placing parts. Watching some of these videos I had high hopes but will probably buy a higher end machine. Any ideas on better PNP machines?

I hope you have your problems solved with the YY1 but if you haven't I may have some insight for you. I had placement issues as you described and Neoden was actually going to send me a new machine. But before that I salved it. What I found was two fold. The belt tension is too loose and the second one was the linear bearings. The bearings would bind and cause placement errors, if you watch close enough you can see it. To salve this i first removed the spring tensioners and set the tension myself. If you go to the Gates site there is an app note for this. That helped. But it wasn't solved. I then removed the suspect bearing, disassembled them cleaned them and lubed them. Again more improvement, but not there yet. I eventually replaced the y axis bearings with real Harwin bearings. Problem solved. I have had problems with the homing switches, and the feeders with the plastic tape are a nightmare. If I leave the machine setup after I get it dialed in it works great, But when I change boards over, the battle begins again.

I hesistate between that NeoDen YY1, and the LumenPNP.
Would anyone knowledgeable please give me his opinion, in terms of reliability / performance / capabilities.
