  • Get a behind-the-scenes view into the making of two spectacular, site-specific works by the internationally acclaimed artist Shahzia Sikander that were unveiled at Princeton in April 2017.
Soaring above the forum of the Julis Romo Rabinowitz Building-the new home for the Department of Economics-is the site of Quintuplet Effect, where layered images of flight, descent, material economies, and spiritual transcendence invite contemplation and conversation. Nearby, as one climbs the stairs in the Louis A. Simpson International Building, a shimmering, sixty-six-foot-high glass and ceramic scroll entitled Ecstasy as Sublime, Heart as Vector takes visitors on a journey from the mortal bonds of humanity to the realm of abstraction.

I like working small pieces that I use my hands to create. My mother painted the statues in Saint Peter’s she was my first teacher so I always wanted to make a lasting impression. Today I got a thank you from someone that I sent a painting to. It made both of us feel good.

I think art can bring us together. I think it can stimulate emotions. Mosaic art glass is taking bits of the past and recreating a piece. The teacher does explain mosaic very clearly.

I worked a bit in ice sculpture. We created works as individual students then presented them together in a show. I did a frog for the frog prince Disney movie.
