This became one of my favorite books when I read it. The author also has an awesome podcast by the same title. I believe it's one of the oldest traditional witchcraft podcasts out there. It has over 200 episodes I believe.
Well now I’m going to look it up. Not sir what a traditional podcast is. Because I know several podcasts that have far more then 200 episodes. So I’m onstage in what makes this one different.
Would you say it provides a robust enough context to kind of help formulate an understanding of the colonization aspects of whichcraft and think critically about where various practices are sourced?
@@coloraddiction absolutely. One thing I love about the podcast is they talk honestly about the colonization and appropriation. Many of their guests on the podcast come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and talk about what witchcraft means to them. They address what is closed practice, what is not and how to ethically go about learning more if that is something you are interested in.
The Author’s Podcast, New World Witchery, is an incredible resource and has some great interviews. I followed the podcast before getting the book. Definitely worth checking out the book and the pod!
This book is available for free on my local library app. It may be available on other public library apps for those who are low income like me. Can’t wait to drive into this treasure! Thanks Olivia for the recommendation.
Alright you sold me on it, ordering it today! Folk magick is my absolute favorite and you always have the best book recommendations. I read Of Blood and Bone after watching the video you suggested it in and it changed my practice completely because it gave me that whole new aspect I was missing. Please never stop doing book reviews!
New World Witchery podcast is a gem. Cory and Laine are constantly entertaining. For people who love the book and want more check there. Also Cory has another book about playing card divination and him and Laine are currently working on yet another book together.
I live in Mexico, which is part of North America, so this book, I feel, will open my eyes to our history in Witchery and I live my life outside the box so this will be Heaven on Earth for me. Thank you! I love your videos!
I am eager to get this one after the review. I obvious watch you but also am a listener of Southern Bramble so double dipping on the desire to get this one now. Any book that helps with developing the connection to plant allies, the land and spirits is one I'm gathering. That's been the biggest weakness in my craft that I am looking to solve.
I love Southern Bramble! For plant allies, check out "Conversations With Plants" by Nikki Darrell and "The Herbal Alchemist's Handbook" by Karen Harrison. Both have good information about working and building a relationship with plant allies.
Me and my bf just kinda started getting into witchcraft and are always trying to look out for things to help us understand more (and hopefully a little easier) what it is we're doing. 😅 Thank you for this video. 💜🖤
I’ve been into witchcraft for several years now but never actually getting started. Mainly because I feel like once I start I want to do it 100% right. I wanna have all the right herbs, crystals, candles, and materials. And I realize now that I really don’t need any of that. I should start from the beginning again and just learn the basics once again. Restart and redo for the better. Learn what fits best for me etc etc. Don’t know why I decided to rant but I also just wanted to mention that you have been an amazing guide all the way since I started, every time I felt like giving up it was always your channel I went to went I felt like starting again. You make it feel so much more simple and easy rather than a lot of other content creators that have these specific spell works and tutorials where I would need a bunch of items I’ve never even heard of. Thank you!!
A) I appreciate that it was a cloak day (like a bones/no bones day) B) I added this book to my Amazon cart so fast. C) Have a great rest of your week 😊
I still have so many new witchy books to complete but now I need this one as well. Thanks for reviewing the book and explaining what you like about it so we can decide for ourselves if it’s the right book for us. Much love!
I absolutely love your book review videos! They’ve lead me on a whole new adventure of knowledge that I had no idea was missing. Thank you so much! I bought this book right after watching this video and loved it. I can’t wait to see what other books you recommend in the future! ♥️
I loved this review and this book has been on my list to work with again. I have read it but there is so much to incorporate. Sometimes this takes a long time. I do feel this book is a great reference to use over a long period of time and to expand a practice. Freedom and creativity is so important to my craft as well! 🌱 🕯 📚 blessings to your magick Olivia!
~I've been waiting for your next video so I could comment within the first two hours XD I started following you a few weeks ago and have been slowly working through your older videos. I love your vlogs and informative videos. Your voice is so pleasant to listen to and you have such a great videography and photography style. I've learned so much just in the short time I've been watching you. Thank you for everything you do!
The author has a UA-cam channel by the same name. He also just uploaded a couple new videos to his channel which he does every so often. And he has a podcast as a another mentioned. He has a degree in folklore and folk traditions and folk practices I believe if I'm not mistaken.
@@LisatheWeirdo I think so. If I'm not mistaken he talks about all of that in one of his videos on his channel. I think it's the one where he did an interview or something like that.
I'm going to look into this book. I also recommend Folk Magic, by Roger J. Horne - I have a hard time reading and learning and the way this book was written and illustrated kept me penned in the whole time. Only takes a day or so to get through.
I LOVE when you do book reviews! Your honest and i appreciate you down to earth-ness. Lol. I tend to purchase my books so this helps me skip the redundant and repetitive content. I also appreciate you letting us know if its an easy read. Thanks!
Would you even recommend it for ppl from Europe? Cause the traditions might have been influenced?! Sounds very interesting.. thank you! Love your reviews.
I friggin went to both of my local libraries and ASKED for books on early north american folk practices, and all I found was shit on the witch trials. THANK YOU for pointing this book out! It's nearly impossible to find information online about North America-specific practices. I can't exactly use rowan berries or common broom in my practice without getting it shipped, which just wouldn't feel the same.
Had the opportunity to read it as an ARC and I knew that this book was going to be a hit. I'm seriously debating getting a physical copy just so I can reread it bc I enjoyed it so much
I have my culture's Tribal Folklore and Language to base my Practices around My Coven does all spoken parts of Circle in the Chickashae language. In fact that's first thing we begin teaching some new.
She is right. Guides, examples, suggestion, should motivate self actualization .. Google lens is a great took for identifying feathers, stones, plants ... around you. we are all where we are ... work with that
May I make a recommendation for a book review? Pop Culture Magick by Taylor Ellwood. It is one of very few books on the topic and I respect your opinion and in-depth explanation of them
I assume by traditional witchcraft, considering the context, you're referring to folkloric witchcraft or traditional folk magic, rather than say Tradcraft? If so, does the book cover modern developments in the 20th century like said Tradcraft, or is it just about the traditional folk magic?
I find historical books are seldom focused on facts and we gleen so much more from the actual human nature or the non tangible reactions ... which also creates reality

No joke 24 hours ago I was t a bookstore and was going to buy that book! Talk about timing.
What bookstore was it? I've never seen a bookstore that has witchy books 😭
Also i think that's totally a sign you should go back for it!
Thanks for the recommendation. My library has this free with their audiobook app, so I'm definitely going to give it a go.
This isn’t related to the book at all , but what eyeshadow do you use ? Because your makeup looks amazing ! A makeup tutorial would be really cool
Ah thank you! I use Tarte or Urban Decay for my eyeshadows:)
I should give it a read. Wonderful review!

I need to see if Barnes and knobles has it
