Net profit of 100 rs. After 8 years.. but what will be the inflation then.. also our purchasing power will also reduce. But nonetheless there will be gain.
Q4 C (used elimination as neither 1st nor the 2nd statement could be correct. Profits increase when RBI purchases G-Secs and earns through the interest on these G-Secs. CRR is part of liabilities of RBI.)
Sir practice question 2 i would rather skip. 2nd statement is quite confusing. While following expansionary policy RBI decreases its loan interest rates to the banks so it is not unambiguous as to whether RBIs profits would increase or decrease.
Even I agree with @Rusty Rust, with expansionary policy RBI will decrease the repo rate, thus lowering the profit. Can anyone from the RAU IAS team calrify this.
During Expansionary Monetary Policy, the RBI injects liquidity into the economy by buying G-Secs through OMOs as well as by reducing the Repo Rate. In both these cases, the overall assets with the RBI increases and hence profits also increase. On one hand, the number of G-Secs with the RBI increase leading to higher interest income. While, on the other hand, higher loans to the Banks also lead to higher interest income. Here, you must understand that even though the Repo rate is lower, the volume of loans given by RBI to the Banks is quite higher. Hence, the higher volume of loans (inspite of lower Repo Rate) would lead to higher profits. A case in point is the year 2018-19 in which the RBI had registered record profits of Rs 1.23 lakh crores. This was mainly on account of two reasons - (a) Higher Purchase of G-Secs through OMOs (b) Higher loans to the Banks by reducing Repo Rate. You can go through the link for more clarity:www.thehindu.com/business/how-the-rbi-ended-2018-19-with-an-over-123-lakh-crore-surplus/article29292127.ece
Yes. We do not need demat account for purchasing sovereign Gold Bonds from the Banks. But, if you want to sell the Bonds in the stock exchanges before the maturity period, you would need DEMAT account. Similarly, if you want to buy SGB directly from the stock exchanges, even then one needs DEMAT account.

@@ma9har the best I can guess is: If gold is kept for trading purpose in Forex, it can't be from govt side as govt cannot put itself in trading or risk factors areas. However the exchange rate system that India follows is the hybrid of fixed and floating rate. So there may be RBI's hand in this trading, or govt might be but through RBI only. But not sure this will be right answer or not.
