    I bought a set o these. Put them in a '01 Epi LP Standard, and they sound amazing. What really surprised me is how great they sound running through my EVH 5150 on the blue channel. Gain at 2 o'clock, then boost it with a OD pedal. Its a massive wall of sound, but not mushy or muddy. Great pick-ups. Seems like C or C# standard is their sweet spot as far as tuning.

    I'd love you to get your hands on the new/coming soon magnet-less pickups from the french company Keyztone. I just want someone to review them, they say it's 100% analog, no buzz, and can emulate any kind of pickups (some kind of Impulse Response but for Pickup). There's almost no videos... the only ones I saw are in French.

      I'd actually be super interested in this
      Everyone knows about tonematching amps and stuff, but very few people seem to match DIs which I think is a shame. Being able to emulate pickups is the next logical step imo in tone recreation.

    I wanna put these in a sg. play a bunch of stoner doom. and have a or100 from orange with rigs of doom cabs full blast. and play dopesmoker on repeat

    • @jakeaylward1

      dopesmoker amps were re-badged OR100's

    • @jeroenverbeeck7925
      @jeroenverbeeck7925 7 років тому +5

      nah old sleep is orange and laney AOR, but jerusalem/dopesmoker is recorded mostly with matamps 'green' gt120's. They blew all their recording budget on those boutique amps, and weed ofcourse. They were very similar to or100's but not just rebadges ones. Here are the words of Billy Anderson, their producer: "That was a long time ago, but..its still really clear in my
      mind what was used because that album was such a struggle and
      achievement...Anyhow, for basic tracking (I'm pretty sure this
      track was used throughout the mixing process as a center track,
      except for the "scratch" solos..) we used a Green Matamp with a
      Green 4x12 cab, mic'd with an Sm57 and a Beyer M88. For the
      main guitars, we used two full stacks, one stack driven by a
      Green Matamp and the other driven by a Green Matamp Combo amp
      (I think it had 2x12" speakers) on the front end and a Slave
      Unit power amp on the back end...Each stack was mic'd close
      with SM7 and M88 with a room mic (probably a large diaphragm
      Neumann U67) and all mics summed to one track on tape. This
      setup was used to double the main guitar. So at that point we
      had the original live track and two performances of the setup
      with 2 stacks, equalling three tracks total.
      THEN--on certain parts of the song, for texture and dimension,
      we did an additional rhythm track using a fucking Pignose amp,
      open halfway with an AKG 414 in figure 8 pattern inserted into
      the open amp...Fucked up, right?
      After that, solos were done with the 2-full stack setup or the
      Pignose depending on which solo...Clean guitars were done with
      the Matamp combo at low volume with a ribbon mic close up and a
      room mic..."

    Fluffster, how would you compare these to the Dirty Heshers?

  • @ChristianIce
    @ChristianIce 7 років тому +19

    I would say very flat dynamic and smooth attack, that is not a bad thing for Punk - Rock - Stoner kinda distortion, and it's good for arpeggios even in metal.
    On the other hand, a very bad choice for Metal, Thrash, Djent and all the stiles that require a tight attack.

    • @jacobcousins4234
      @jacobcousins4234 7 років тому +11

      ChristianIce the pickups were made for doom, so very mid range and bass heavy with no treble, unlike faster metal which relies on less bass and tons of treble, so these pickups are really made for doom and basically nothing else

  • @whatthediddlyyoutuberino1359
    @whatthediddlyyoutuberino1359 7 років тому +16

    they can rock/riff? that's it? try turning up the gain, using a fuzz pedal, or stacking pedals. i see how it sounds clean, and i understand you showing them "in the mix", but this video doesn't differentiate them from any other pickups, and with Matt's name on them, they should be shown through similar gear/instances of higher gain, louder amps. the pickups on Lace's site are considered "hot", but you hardly drove these things.

    • @jacobcousins4234
      @jacobcousins4234 7 років тому +11

      Elijah Herrera fluff also has the treble way too high on his settings, its reducing the power the pickup have when it comes to crushing tone

    • @OGbrundle

      Yeah it sucks this is basically the only review of these on UA-cam, and he doesn't do anything with them that the majority of us that would buy them would do with them.

    • @RealMrBoy

      I'm glad I'm not the only one in this boat. I asked Lace about these pickups, and they actually sent me a link to this video. ZERO reviews showing how these sound for Doomy tones. Maybe I can get them to send me a pair, and give them a proper review. I'd like to compare these to the other Pike Pickups Lace has and the Finger Burners.

      @@kobediahmiller9141 I havent tested them through my main rig, but first impressions with my micro dark is that it seems to sound tighter and brighter then stock pick ups (But I also had my tone pot removed, so that might add to the brightness). I will follow up when I test with my Engl Ironball head this weekend.
