Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack, Hotel Transylvania) is friends with Craig McKracken (Powerpuff Girls, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Wander over Yonder) who works for Disney. So Genndy might have been waved in by Craig.
IMO Sony Pictures Animation made decent films but The Emoji movie, oh boy this movie will be awful.

Honestly, the fact that Gennedy IS one of the great animation legends of the two decades or so make him returning to Hotel Transylvania even more sad. But still, with a guy with such reputation you'd think he'd be able to find work rather even. Heck, I would hire him if given the opportunity.

Personally, I do agree at least in part that Genndy is indeed a sellout at this point. But I find it *very* hard to believe that Genndy seriously can't find work elsewhere. I mean, this is the same man that helped make Phil Lamarr one of the CN's biggest staples! The same guy that revived the career of Mako! The same Genndy that founded many of our childhood's biggest success stories! How can he *seriously* think Hotel Transylvania's his only move left in this chess board we call life?!
I think what he said could be translated to this: "I'm stuck in a contract with the devil and I can't get out until I make one more movie for them" OR "I'm sticking around just to see the shitshow that will happen soon"

And they reran a show from Warner Bros called Growing Pains
in Mexico, Disney channels broadcasts some Sony Pictures movies, particulary Disney XD. i live in Mexico

Pretty sure they wouldn't announce it if they didn't. Also I think emoji are public property, as they are from japan where they were a staple on all phones for years.

After hearing this, I feel like I'm going to cry.
Honestly, I like SPA more than I do Illumination (Only liked the first 2 Despicable Me films) and Blu Sky (Only 3 films I liked)
- I liked Open Season 1, Arthur Christmas is a gem, Surfs Up was great, And I like the Hotel Transylvania films, This is just my opinion though, and the Emoji Movie sounds stupid

Arthur Christmas is Aardman, not Sony. Aardman always offers something watchable at the very least, and they have a number of truly great movies in their line-up. And nobody claims that Sony never did a watchable or even kind of good movie, but those vanish under all the nonsense...and it is pretty clear that they in general target a very young demographic, while most animation studios try to do something timeless for all ages.
swanpride I've grown up with Aardman as a kid (Being from the United Kingdom) I've even seen their darker projects like Stage Fright, Adam, Pib and Pog (Which is hilarious)

I don't think I can see the hotel transylvania and cloudy tv shows lasting that long.
I dunno, Prince of Egypt appeals to people who aren't Jewish. So it's possible non-Christian people might watch The Star if it's executed well.
My current thoughts of the 2017 animated flicks:
LEGO Batman Movie: The first animated movie of the year and it doesn't look like total crap... I think we've broken the Weinstein drought guys. Not exactly hyped about another 'comic relief' spinoff but Batman seems more sequel worthy compared to Dory and Minions. Plus I'm pretty sure Lord and Miller are behind this, so I can trust that this will at least alright.
Boss Baby: Dreamworks has revealed little to no information and considering how soon this is, I'm not so optimistic.
Lost Village: Excited, shall be great to see our long awaited movie adaption fixed after how awful the live action ones turned out. Happy to see that a similar thing is happening with Scoob.
Nut Job 2: Looks like it could be an improvement over the first one but I'm not holding my breath.
Captain Underpants: Intrigued, seeing a comical, fun book hero heading to animation sounds like a fun movie.

I love the Force Awakens. I'm a huge Star wWars fan.
I really hope that the animated spider man will be like the "Scott pilgrim vs. the world" movie, like I feel that the movie should look more realistic than the usual Sony pictures animation movie, but directed more to look like a comic book come to life the way Scott pilgrim did.
I don't think it would be that hard for someone like Genndy to find more work

My only hope is after the emoji thing flops, people will realize that you can't just throw something popular on a movie and get extremely rich. I know it probably won't happen, but at least I CAN stay positive about this.

The Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs series is just going to be a drop in the bucket when competing with Steven Universe, We Bare Bears, and Teen Titans Go. As much as I fucking HATE Teen Titans Go, it is a very successful show!
I got a brilliant idea for a movie that Sony could make. Memes. Because that won't be outdated even well in production.

I think Smurfs: The Lost Village may do well, as long as the reviews are good and the only major competition is Furious 8. Smurfs seems like it'll be the only family film playing in April 2017, and the only animated family film playing in May 2017 is The Nut Job 2.
Then again, the film may take a hit from the predecessors' negative reception and May 2017's high-profile releases (GOTG Vol.2, Barbie, POTC: Dead Men Tell No Tales), so it could go either way.

I highly doubt Sony Animation's in trouble, all of their movies (except Surf's Up and Arthur Christmas unfortunately) have likely made them money. Out of their upcoming films, I think they'll all make their money back except Emoji and The Star. Not sure about their TV series though.

You forgot to mention "Sym-Bionic Titan", a show Genndy T. made at Cartoon Network in 2010. I think it was cancelled because Genndy and Cartoon Network were arguing over merchandising for the show, which led him to leave for Sony in the first place.

Reasons why Sony will shut down
-The Smurfs has Fate of the Furious as a competence and we all know who is going to win at the box office
-The Emoji movie is 100% guaranteed to be horrible and a box office bomb
-The Star i think it may be a good family christmas film but it has Star Wars Episode 8 as competence and considering the last one made 2 billion dollars The Star will be a box office disaster

I think out of all these projects the Emoji movie I bet is gonna do the worst financially wise.(I mean really? A Emoji Movie? Seriously Sony? -_- You gotta be kidding me. That alone will probably hurt their profits.) And as for Genndy Tartakovsky I think at this point he has nothing left but Hotel Transylvania 3 and the Samurai Jack reboot.
(It's sad as he use to be considered a legend in television animation. Oh how the mighty have fallen.) And hell with all the shit Sony did to him why would he want to come back to Sony Pictures Animation? The only thing I could come up with is the same as you said. For Money.
I think honestly he should just go back to Television Animation. I can tell even as a guy who liked the first movie I don't think Hotel Transylvania really shows his capabilities as a visionary storyteller.
Though yeah in terms of the other movies/TV Shows I don't have much to say on those. I don't think necessarily they'll go out of business but I think that their movies need more quality control. (Not just that but also I think they need to stop greenlighting shit like a Emoji Movie because to a lot of Animation Enthusiasts they won't take Sony Pictures Animation seriously.)

Smurfs: The Lost Village:Looks freaking amazing and more inspiring than the live action films back in 5 years ago (2011-2013)
EmojiMovie:Express yourself:Extremely Worried about the disaster of this movie
The Star:Looks interesting and might been up with The smurfs reboot.
Hotel Transylvania 3:Very looking forward it and I hope Rebecca sugar will be the producer for the next film so it can over-throned the second one as my favorite in the franchise
The animated spider-man film:Looks interesting but it might of been awesome and be like the Sam rami's spider man films and spider-man homecoming

Goosebumps:Horrorland/Goosebumps 2:OMG OMG OMG IM FREAKING EXCITED FOR THIS SINCE I LOVE THE HECK OUT OF THE FIRST GOOSEBUMPS MOVIE (Which is like your childhood was brought back to life by the right people (which are the people who made the goosebumps tv show and the composer of the nightmare before Christmas compose the music for the film (hopefully he comes back for the new one) WHO'S WITH ME BECAUSE GOOSEBUMPS WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN THANKS TO PEOPLE REMEMBERS THE FRANCHISE AND NEWER FANS WHO ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO SOMETHING GREAT! West Coast Emerald Bull well at least Cartoon Network does not make their content creators apologize for saying about how they treat their shows unfairly.
Landon Legate doesn't mean they don't have an iron grip on content. They want to build a specific image and expect creators to conform. If cartoonists there conform, they'll stick around, if not, they'll get rejected or their shows will get cancelled, including CH Greenblatt. CN actually forced him to cancel Chowder because when they rebranded, they saw Chowder as unfit for their new image.
whats next? THE MEMZ MOVIE!
the star could be the next Nestor the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey. Hotel Transelvania may not be MLP but it should be better then Monsters High or the new adventues of peeter pan. I hope it lands around Kung Fu Panda or Dragon Riders. I was never a big fan of monsters vs aliens or madigascar but they did get popular. as far Ghostbusters you're right they never considered what if it flops as a possible thing. like how Mario bros thought there movie would have a sequel. but I'm still hopping for fans to like it. to acept this isn't the old one but it can still be good. we're fan rageing at it. we're not judging with an unbiased eye. CGI can be good Girls can be good. new wrighters can be good. not everything Ghostbusters has been god. will it be better then Extreme? who knows? too early to tell. Spiderman needs no go more like the 90s and less like Ultimate Spiderman. make a movie for fans not a movie for kids.
