When I fill bobbins, the thread doesn't move up & down consistently. I use the end of my purple thang to help the thread fill more evenly by pushing it up & down as needed.
As a beginner, one of my fears is sewing through my finger. I love that that purple thang can push fabric right up to the presser foot without fingers being anywhere near the needle. I got a two pack so that I can surprise my sewing tutor with one! Thank you 🤗💕
Thank you! This is a REALLY OLD VIDEO and I promise you I’ve gotten much better at making videos so please subscribe if you have not already done so and then you can see some of my new stuff. So, I’ve never seen through my finger but I’ve seen it happen and it’s ugly. This notion is amazing!!
I just got The Purple Thang for Christmas from my daughter. I had never heard of it. Loved your video.....So many ideas after watching your video and reading ppl's comments. Keep up the great work.
When using it to help turn a long thin tube, like ties for anything, it's really helpful to wet the fingers you use to push the fabric inside out. Otherwise my fingers keep slipping and it takes forever! So next time you want to try this and you are ready to turn the tie inside out just wet your fingers under the faucet first!
I bought one a few years ago, but didn't know what to do with it much. recently took it out to put where I sit and crochet. Now, to actually use that purple thang!
I'm like you - I have more than one. At each of my machines and on my cutting table. They are terrific! Love your ideas for using the flat end. Never thought of that!!
I just got a Purple Thang this past Christmas and am trying to remember why I asked for it! Now I know. I think it will come in very handy for scrapbooking, and I'll let you know if that turns out to be true! I'm sure I'll use it for quilting.
I love how informative your video is! I'd love if the sound volume was consistant throughout, i found myself lowering it through some shots and having to put it on max volume through the duration of the tutorial portion.
Thanks! I bought this to be a pusher, but you showed me how to use all of it. This is an awesome video and I saved it. I'm sure to forget about some of what it does and will need you to remind me.
I use it for hand basting a quilt -- putting it under my needle as I push through the layers. This after way too many finger pricks to count!!! It also works for pin basting, using it in the same manner. I had ordered a Kwik Klip when I realized this would work just as good! Saved myself $13 CND!
you should get a percentage of sales for this review. I never noticed the 1/4 or the slot I just thought it was something to help guide fabric under the pressure foot. going to buy one for myself and one for our guild monthly meeting raffle
Oh my goodness, I am going to buy one based soley on your adorable presentation! You really did explain it very well, so thanks for that. Sub'd because I want to see more of your --Will it Float-- er, Does this Notion Really Work? UA-cam videos.😁
Great video. After looking at this video, I think the Purple thing times 2 could also be tucked into a hair updo or used as a shawl pin. Yes I would love to win one. It is obviously a cool tool.
I'm one of those people... I've never seen this.... gotta have one cause I use all different kinds of things to try and do these jobs... thanks for the info.
A friend told me I needed to get a stiletto, a term which my only knowledge was a heel on a shoe. When I looked on Amazon, it brought up That Purple Thingy. Still no clue what to do with it. I loved your video! I am sending this to my quilting friends who had never heard of it. I will be watching for more great tips!
I have to have a purple thang for tearing off the paper on my string blocks or any paper-pieced blocks. The pointed end slips under the paper and makes it easy to tear off. And since I make a kabillion string blocks I use a purple thang every day.
How about a lacing needle for braided rugs? I just tried making a rug this Christmas but only had an embroidery needle. That Purple Thang looks like it would have made a great subsitute for what I really needed...a lacing needle.
I don’t remember what I was doing with it, but I actually broke one recently. I mostly use mine for poking corners and removing paper from FPP quilt blocks.
What do I use it for? NOTHING so far. I could't use it for what I bought it for, and unfortunately this is the only video on YT re: it's use ... and I'm just learning how to sew, so maybe .. in the future.
I came here because Amazon showed me one (priced for $45 for just one) on FB just now and I had no clue what it was. I crochet. I don't sew or anything. Strictly crochet. Really weird how I got an advert for one of these and I have absolutely no reason to use one. I do, however, know of 3 people who probably could get some usage from this (and a whole lot cheaper than Amazon).

Thank you for showing us the many uses of ’The Thang’! I wish I had it years ago!
Now you’ll never want to live without it
I use it by putting it behind the needle to help go over bumpy seams.
👍🏼👍🏼

just got 2 - 5 packs and will be gifting them to my sisters and mom - we all sew in one fashion or another - sewing, quilting, machine embroidery.

Love that idea
In the same way, maybe it would be handy for weaving as well.
I love that purple thang a must have notion💋
Totally agree :)
I don’t remember what I was doing with it, but I actually broke one recently. I mostly use mine for poking corners and removing paper from FPP quilt blocks.
No!! Wow. I wonder what you did do
I did the same thing. It actually broke twice. I was poking out corners. I suppose I wore it out since I've made over 300 mini quilt squares
Well it sounds like you got your money’s worth though
You've sold me on it!
I have 3. Use it for so many things. After all, it is PURPLE. How could it not be useful?!
Love it thank you
Guilty! I have this as well. OMG
What do I use it for? NOTHING so far. I could't use it for what I bought it for, and unfortunately this is the only video on YT re: it's use ... and I'm just learning how to sew, so maybe .. in the future.
I so need this now
I have one in my sewing room - just did not know exactly how to use it -- THANKS!!

Wow. That’s a crazy price. If you use my life you’ll see it’s for like $5 (date is 6-28-2021) but prices fluctuate, not that much though.
Love mine
