I don’t know of this Cod you speak of.. but if he is saying that biochar doesn’t need to be precharged because it charges on the way down he should read some studies or at the very least, produce some of his own scientific data.
When I first started taking care of my yard I would have to water 1.5 inches a week to keep it from getting crunchy. A few months after putting down x soil, I get the results with only 1 inch per week. Great product and I appreciate you sharing all your knowledge with us.
Put about a half bag of x soil in a mels mix raised bed garden 4ft by 6ft by 1ft deep with a good organic fertilizer and I have never seen a garden so healthy and thriving. Also have fixed a few thin spots in the yard that were trouble spots.. Thank you Matt. You make the green industry look real good brother.
I love the science that both you and John Perry put out. Doing your own research, making and modifying your own products to improve them are why I both use and tell others to use your product(s). The Lawn care community truly appreciates your efforts for sustainable lawn care. Keep up the great work.
That's some serious motor horsepower you have there. Was that the grinder winding up or the electric meter? XSOIL order is in with GCI. My lawn never looked this good after a dose of CarbonX.
Awesome explanation!!! I know you include BioChar in Carbox X and X-Green. Is there a limit as to how much I can put down per year? Can I add an app of X-Soil in between ferts or would that be too much?
I will be seeding my backyard, which as you mentioned in the video, is a new construction site. I have a bag of XSoil ready to use, however I would love to hear your opinion for optimal application. I have a commercial tiller on hand, would you recommend using this as a top dressing with seed or rather tilling in the XSoil with the existing soil? My instinct is to truly amend the existing soil by tilling in the product.
The char? Indefinitely, but remember the realized benefits of char are only positive for ~1 yr. Eventually the org matter will be digested by the microbes and turned into plant food
What is the max recommended rate per thousand, and what would you recommend someone do if they have extremely sandy soil for a cool season lawn? Is it wrong to put down 40lbs per thousand every year?
Gray soils are usually hydric or hydraulic, anything you can do to stimulate gas exchange is a positive. Dropping the bulk density with coring and collecting cores and addition of OM will do just that. XSOIL could work as could a host of other products as well
Great Explanation Matt! Wish I had the Dough to throw down 30-40 Lbs per 1K, on my 18K lawn. Think I am going to give it a shot a low rates each year to build up the soil!. Also is this available or going to be to the DIY Market? As Always I appreciate you knowledge Professor! Peace Chad Upstate NY
Wow! I been using black kow and same company mushroom compost and sand mix in my new construction home yard patching bare spots and the patch work is so healthy! Aeration with top dressing with those 3 next!
I was going to kill my off my front weed patch and start fresh with some tttf from seed in about 3 months. I was going to top dress with organic compost so the seed doesn’t wash away as about half is on a hill. Would I still put down the 10-20lbs per 1000 of x soil at time of seeding even though I’m adding compost? would there be any benefit to getting some working in the soil now before I burn it down then the rest when I seed? The yard has been largely untouched by previous owner for about 7-8yrs. Used some of your other products and was pretty happy with them, already purchased some x start and carbon x for the project, great vids and products!
Great info. Thanks. I enjoy using your x-soil products. So it the poultry manure a form of inoculate for the biochar? Was the soil biology and nutrients leaving the soil and entering your initial untreated/non composted biochar? Is that why the plants died?
I have a ton of respect for your knowledge Matt and you have forgotten more about turf than I will ever know. I have used xstart, carbonx, xsoil, xgrn and all have been great products, have also used doc's PGF complete, humichar and super juice. I can honestly say they are all good products (maybe not super juice) but Doc does a much better job of marketing and breaking things down a little more simpler for the average home owner just looking to get their lawn back into shape. I don't agree with 75% of the stuff Doc says but he has a huge youtube following and does take the time to master market before/after his products. I would suggest if you want to compete with the likes of Doc make your message a little simpler and put some effort into showing real world before/after applications. Great work as usual and this made me want to throw my bag of humichar out .. lol
In other words biochar carbon are like sponges, you put it in the ground without filling it with nutrients it will suck up all the nutrients from your soil. Premixing the biochar carbon with composting materials fills the carbon with nutrients and allows your soil and lawn to feed on these stored nutrients.
Purchased my 1st bag, excited to start using this over the coming years. Would it be best to aerate turf then apply XSOIL over simply top dressing? I Also plan on leveling with sand over clay too. Will it help with recovery of my bermuda if thrown down under the sand?
I plan on aerating and overseeding my TTTF early this fall in Nashville TN. Should I put X-soil down before or after I seed. I have 5,000 square ft and plan on using 25lbs of GCI TTTF seed and 3 bags of milorganite and 1 bag of X-soil. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hey Matt, I’m wondering if you have any numbers or info in general on the potential for additional carbon sequestration when applying any of your products with biochar in them or even biochar in general when applied to turf grass? I’ve been learning that there can be some significant outcomes in improving carbon sequestration in regenerative agriculture practices, and I’ve been wondering about it’s potential to do the same thing in turf grass. Thanks!
Here is what differentiates your products: We are the pricks who give you products that work for prices you like, because an asshole doesn't know any better while a prick knows exactly what he's doing at all times. Best comment from any company ever.
Giddy up!
Ahhhhhh, feels good to have a real doctor breaking down the science 👍
Hey, I understood that reference
You mean How To with Cod is not a real doctor?
I don’t know of this Cod you speak of.. but if he is saying that biochar doesn’t need to be precharged because it charges on the way down he should read some studies or at the very least, produce some of his own scientific data.

Good stuff bro - this is why I am all in with Carbon Earth - straight science based analysis and great results without over promising.
Wait till you get your second freight bill😂
We have been using this for 2 years now at 50 lbs per 1000 sq ft. My customers are hooked on it! Thanks for all you do for us Matt.
Since when XSoil been out for two years?
james vu since I was a beta tester for it. It helps to know the owner of the company😂
Yards Done Right epic reply love it 😊 😂 😆 😂

Exactly why I used it on my project lawn. New construction all day. Thanks for the product Matt 🤙🏾🌱
So am I wasting money with humichar and if so what would be a better alternative?
Well there you go again giving me information I didn’t think I needed to know only to find out I really needed to know it!
Applied X soil at 15 lbs per 1000 and is helping my lawn a lot
The noise of that motor reminded me of the last time I flew with Delta.
That's why I was hiding, I thought it was guy to take off!
Super helpful thank you for the information! Seems like the product for new construction lawns.
Awesome explanation!!! I know you include BioChar in Carbox X and X-Green. Is there a limit as to how much I can put down per year? Can I add an app of X-Soil in between ferts or would that be too much?
The amount per year is in the many thousands of pounds per acre
Love hearing the science behind it, rather than a strong marketing push from the other guy/product.
I have 2 bags going down next week in the garage.
Are there Cliff Notes for this video? Professor Martin👊
I will be seeding my backyard, which as you mentioned in the video, is a new construction site. I have a bag of XSoil ready to use, however I would love to hear your opinion for optimal application. You can take either approach, the faster approach is indeed incorporating it, but I would also go at higher rates to physically manipulate structure
👉🏻🤯👈🏻
Thanks. Just bought me some for Father’s Day
Hay Matt how long will xsoil stay in the lawn. Is yearly/multiple apps recommend. Love the info. 👍👏
The char? Indefinitely, but remember the realized benefits of char are only positive for ~1 yr. Eventually the org matter will be digested by the microbes and turned into plant food
The Grass Factor does the char which remains, provide benefit after the composted material are used up?
Thanks for the video! I’ve been tired of hearing Humichar this Humichar that!
First time watcher.. Just had a house built and sod is terrible (Bermuda) her in TX. Is this product ok to put down. Thanks for advice
Okay, I got 2 bags. Just put one down today with the hope it improves my soil test micro numbers. Just had a 1/2 hour shower too, so it's watered in.
What is the max recommended rate per thousand, and what would you recommend someone do if they have extremely sandy soil for a cool season lawn? Is it wrong to put down 40lbs per thousand every year?
No it's not, I wouldn't go any higher than say 40lbs, the ROI isn't there IMO
Awesome info, Heisenturf!
I'm curious how well this stuff will work in hard gray clay soils....Good info....
Gray soils are usually hydric or hydraulic, anything you can do to stimulate gas exchange is a positive. Dropping the bulk density with coring and collecting cores and addition of OM will do just that. XSOIL could work as could a host of other products as well
I am so glad you made this video. You are the man Matt.
Peace Chad Upstate NY
google the lawn care nut and you can buy it from his website.
Wow! I been using black kow and same company mushroom compost and sand mix in my new construction home yard patching bare spots and the patch work is so healthy! Aeration with top dressing with those 3 next!
Would you recommend putting x soil in your vegetable garden? I put carbon x in my garden and the results have been phenomenal.
It's a great product for gardens
Still not clear on how composting releases those nutrients from biochar!! Thanks for making this!
Look up that study I showed, it goes into more detail about the organic coating on biochar and manipulating the hydrophobicity of char
I was going to kill my off my front weed patch and start fresh with some tttf from seed in about 3 months. Thanks Matt-always informative!!
Great info. Thanks. I enjoy using your x-soil products.
So it the poultry manure a form of inoculate for the biochar?
Was the soil biology and nutrients leaving the soil and entering your initial untreated/non composted biochar? Is that why the plants died?
Well said. Most don't know the difference between Urea and Ammonium Nitrate/Sulfate, Potassium ********. Great video. Thank you.
Look forward to using this product in the fall renovation.
So . What kind of Char were they making in the Amazon? High Temp, Low temp. What worked for them should work for the rest of us. Right.
Love your products, but just curious how does xsoil compare with Scotts soil foundations or humichar?
transparency is the key to understanding. i've showed the studies used to develop my product. i haven't seen anything on their end.
Amazing video! Great intro and even peer reviewed literature! Wow! 🌱👍🌱 Thank you
I have a ton of respect for your knowledge Matt and you have forgotten more about turf than I will ever know. Oversimplification is devaluation.
W Jack he’s trying to make xsoil by attracting live chickens 😂
Love it! Any chance you will amend the product with maybe, mycorrhizae? Just curious
not xsoil because myco is only proven effective at seed establishment
In other words biochar carbon are like sponges, you put it in the ground without filling it with nutrients it will suck up all the nutrients from your soil. Premixing the biochar carbon with composting materials fills the carbon with nutrients and allows your soil and lawn to feed on these stored nutrients.
In essecence, and anything it does still capture, it can also re-release easily
So how much do you need to put into it before it stops sponging in?
Would it be better to aerate soil then put xsoil down or does it not make difference? Just thinking of getting in down in soil faster with aeration.
This is super helpful, Matt. Thank you for the great educational video. 👍
Would xsoil be an option for cool season lawn in sandy soil to help with watering? Our water is very expensive.
Yes indeed great application
What’s your thoughts on adding XSOIL into the mix when leveling a large area of a lawn?
Could def work at 1-10% inclusion to stimulate recovery
Purchased my 1st bag, excited to start using this over the coming years. Would it be best to aerate turf then apply XSOIL over simply top dressing? I Also plan on leveling with sand over clay too. Will it help with recovery of my bermuda if thrown down under the sand?
Señor Martin, what are the suggested application rates for X-Soil for turf per 1K?
Were do you get x soil. Or carbon earth
Is it true? No more carbon x? Any future plans to try to bring it back?
Wish I could get the carbon earth products in Canada!
The bag says water it in. Is that absolutely necessary?
Nicely done sir!
Matt seems like the mad scientist of the turf grass fertilizer industry. He loves his factory, lab, and all of the manufacturing process.
Top soil is catch all phrase too
Really helpful man i appreciate it that made alot of sense
I plan on aerating and overseeding my TTTF early this fall in Nashville TN. Should I put X-soil down before or after I seed. I have 5,000 square ft and plan on using 25lbs of GCI TTTF seed and 3 bags of milorganite and 1 bag of X-soil. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lot of information thank you🙏
Hey Matt, are any of the carbon x fertilizers homogenous Prills so that I would get a more even coverage. Greens grade type Fert?
From my soil test I’m High on calcium. Will this product help lower that?
No, there's not really anything you can do to lower calcium. Keep your pH in check and you'll be gravy.
Thanks for the info...
Where can I buy a bag of xsoil?
What is a good rate of XSoil for when I apply when I’ll be aerating my established TTTF (zone 6B, STL MO area)? Is there such a thing as “too much”?
The too much has more to do with ROI. Anything over 40lbs/1000 IMO is not worth the money. 10-20lbs is the sweet spot for performance to $ spent
Not a mention of peptides in an xsoil video?
Wanted to talk about biochar first
Does it help when seeding?
Yes it does, do not forget your NPK as well though
Thanks for addressing the issues. Class is in session
Great info, per usual, URoracle, yo!
Seems YM doesn’t sell it anymore.
Is there a best time of year to apply XSoil.?
Is it safe to put xsoil down in summer?
💥 Boom dropping knowledge bombs 💣!!
ill take your wordfor it.all i know is it works.
How do you get the stripes into the biochar pellets?
Preach brudda
I’m givin it all she’s got captain!
Would it be good to use it when overseeding KBG? If so, what's your app recommendation per 1,000 sq ft?
Yo! The Matt Martin boyeeeeee👊😎
Omg that sound made my dogs go nuts. Haha
Straight over my head....lolol.
But I trust you
Does xsoil contain humic acid in it or would i still need to use humic acid if i put down xsoil?
No it doesn't and in the tests we've done, we have seen no benefit using it with xsoil
The Grass Factor ok thanks. So basically i could use either humic acid or xsoil? Not necessarily both?

Could do a video on that 🙈
Matt how does xsoil compare to HUMICHAR BY DOC ???
No ♥️ for grassthief that's ok I'll put my own ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🤪
Love the background Brother, but you lost me after BioChar
The man, the myth, the scientist Matt Martin.
👍🏻
I trust a man who knows how to wear his hat properly.
😂😂😂
Do you wear your shoes backwards too?
First
Weird flex but OK.
🤣🤣🤣
No i dont think so
Not first
The more you know 🤓
Matt knows more about biochar than Scotty from StarTrek knows about dilythium crystals.
🤣🤣🤣 I could only dream to have that knowledge!!
SUPER JUICE ME BIG DADDY !!
First
