Reliving The War takes a look at the WWF vs WCW Monday Night Wars that took place during the mid to late 90s and early 2000s. Every match, promo and segment gets covered as we take an in-depth look at one of the hottest time periods in wrestling. With WCW Nitro on TNT and WWF Monday Night Raw on the USA Network (at the same time), fans had to choose which channel to watch. This series flips back and forth between both the WCW channel and the WWF channel to check out what happened every week.
It's the night after WWF In Your House: A Cold Day in Hell and The Undertaker is still WWF Champion. Taker battles Savio Vega on Raw this week while Stone Cold Steve Austin promises to become WWF champion in the future. Bret Hart calls out Shawn Michaels to end Raw, and Bret ends up verbally destroying Shawn to close out the show while being oblivious to time constraints. Rob Van Dam also makes his WWF Raw debut.
On WCW Nitro, the company gets ready for Slamboree '97. Reggie White makes an appearance and he gets physical with Steve McMichael. Roddy Piper, Kevin Greene and Ric Flair get a message from the nWo, and Wrath makes his in-ring WCW debut. Sting has sent word that he wants interviewed by Eric Bischoff, and Nitro closes with Sting and Bischoff in the ring.

“RVD had ‘it’, whatever ‘it’ is.” Bret Hart whispers to himself “he’s got the jam,” as he sheds a lone tear.
Bret finally aknowledges that RVD's stones aren't too cold for him to come and fight.
RVD: Too Legit 2 Quit
Bret missed out. He's got the jam could have been huge.
RVD is a jam up guy
RVD is more Jam than a Savio Vega nerve hold while swallowing whole slices of Exceptional Executioner Pizza!
Who knew that Davey Boy Smith would emerge as the star of reliving the war? I look forward to seeing that chinlock every week!
Monday Night Chinlock
Truly speaking I didn't remember Davey boy was such a crucial part of Monday nights until this series came along. Probably the reason is I started watching since wrestlemania 13.
Austin Calling Vince McMahon A Chicken was absolutely hilarious and Vince's Reaction was priceless.
And at the same time, WCW was in month 5 or 6 of the Hogan/Sting slow build.
@@Bertaut and the Match ended up terrible
@@benespinosa6725 I think it was alright in retrospect, watching it knowing what to expect. At the time though, I hated it. There was no way they could do justice to the build. Sting was in a shocking state, and Hogan was Hogan. The intros were good though.
@@Bertautagreed
This period of the Hart foundation was one of the absolute peaks of the era.
Absolutely agree. Full full respect for bret but for some reason I've never been a big fan of his. But this version of heel Bret has always been one my top favorite things from the attitude era.
@@Hav2bmor Are we in the attitude era already? I always thought that the switch between New Generation to attitude happened with the Montreal Screwjob when the monday night wars really kicked to high gear.
@@theazureknight9399 era's are always fluid. This time period to me was already attitude era even if the branding hadn't changed yet. You are correct that most people will point to the screw job as the start of it but you can clearly see the tide is already turning. To me, and just my personal opinion, the attitude era really kicks off with the royal rumble because after the dusty finish where Austin screws over Brett you see Brett attacking Vince and Austin start to bloom into the badass. The concept that Vince was "only a commentary guy" until Montreal is just plain wrong. Shawn had called him out as the boss several times before that, again Brett yelled and attacked Vince over the royal rumble outcome, Austin went to Vince about it too, so it's just plain false. But its semantics so can always be argued when the era truly began.
When you said “he calls out Shawn Michaels”, I knew that this was THAT episode of Raw.
That commentary about the HHH-Johnson match just about made me choke, i was laughing so hard.
Choked Johnson 😂
This is what I came to the comments for!
"Beating the big johnson" lol
Haha right I’m like am I the only one hearing this 😂😂
Lmao
Wooooooo
I can't remember what Thursdays were like before Relieving the War started.
Can't get enough of Scott Hall threatening me every Thursday!
I demand a tossed toothpick emoji..✊🏻🧙♂️👍
I love that opening jab aimed at those guys who complained Wrestling Bios doesn't highlight Das Wonderkin's dancing by putting several images of his sweet moves on the tv screen that couple was watching haha
Never really understood WWE going after wrestling channels, your amazing content makes me more invested in wrestling, means I want to go back and watch these on the network and engage more in the community. It's a real shame they don't see it that way
@@billybadass3056 not saying you are wrong but media companies (which Titan Sports Entertainment is) have a legal obligation to defend their trademark and other IP against all threats or lose the ability to defend it at all
@@nicholashurst780 and they know pretty well what is and isn't a threat and they don't care about the difference
They're jealous that their product isn't as entertaining as Wrestling Bios.
This dude is monetized. He is making money displaying content that he doesnt own the ip to.
@@Goomyx1492 but the way the laws are written make it very easy to lose your IP if you don't defend it. if you set that precedence it can make legal hell for you going forward since people will claim they thought it was ok to use your stuff based on this case or that. It's why you'll see WWE put in copyright complaints holding content like this only to release it a few weeks later. They know this kind of content helps them, but that way they can claim they've attempted to defended their property.
I'm as critical of WWE as anyone, but this isn't one of those instances where Vince is just trying to be a jerk. AEW, Impact, etc do the same thing. In fact AEW can be even worse about it because they have to set a precedence of defending their property where WWE has a long history they can lean on.
It's the same with movies, shows, music, etc.
My man behind Wrestling Bios, YOU ARE A FUNNY GUY!
You got 'Das Wunderkind' Alex Wright doing his dance on the Christmas TV in the intro. Oh my God! Hahahahaha!
The quality you bring with this series is UNMATCHED. Thank you for everything you do, man. We all love it & appreciate you.
Ikr? Man's got a real talent for what he does
There's too many good name choices to call his dancing too, hilarious!
Alex Wright's Dance could be called! "The Berlin Waltz" lolz!!!... 😉👍
So pumped to get to fall 97 and into 98. That is really when things take off for both companies
I feel like Faarooq did a great job here with the promo he cut here and honestly he had a point. It might be a little iffy for some to use race in wrestling but here i honestly think it was done very well here
Always putting in the work and giving us these great episodes that me and others look forward to every Thursday
The true MVP of wrestling videos.
"china chokes big Johnson" all those puns were on point! Low key my guy is very funny! I notice his humor through the series. Keep up this banging work and thanks for the free content🍻
I caught it after he kept saying big Johnson
@@chrisburrelljr9270 then there was stiff and won’t go down sexual innuendo is funny
The gratuitous use of Johnson is greatly appreciated.
Alex Wright the "am I being followed home " dance.
🤣🤣🤣☠☠☠☠👀😂😂😂😂
Wheelchair Bret was great.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 top comment
Something about old school wrestling and Irish accents that is just magical! Could listen to this and the OSW boys all day
The Johnson references were great. Real humor😂
Dude I litterly CRIED laughing at all the *Big Johnson * jokes 😂 🤣 😭 😆 😅 😒
I rarely comment on videos but I need to say "thank you" for your dedication to this show and your (us) fans.
The word play is amazing , Johnson won't go down 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lmfao at all the Johnson jokes.
Correction... Big Johnson won't go down 😂😂😂😂😂
That big Johnson is working stiff
I remember this episode so clearly. It was the first time I ever saw RVD. He was instantly one of my favorites. I thought he was going to be fighting for the WWF championship in less than a years time. I still believe he was main event ready at this point.
The double entendres during Ahmed's match, though. 😂 Also, I like how every few episodes your personal lexicon increases: "Kick or be kickin'," "the jam," "Horseman business," etc.
Four years later RVD and Jeff Hardy have some pretty awesome matches during the Invasion era.
This series is my favourite thing on UA-cam. I love reliving these episodes.
Thanks for the commitment you've given us all year.
Same here
Your work and dedication to this series is stellar. I have to commend you!
Some might even say you're too legit to quit.
God damn is this time in WWF the best ever. the Hart Foundation/Michaels/Austin feud was so much closer to reality than wrestling has ever been able to do again. Love it.
RVD would have been perfect for the Attitude Era had he actually signed on with WWF.
For sure, he would have been huge
Triple H is having a hard time beating the big Johnson. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Scott Putski was very underrated,
Bret's promos as a heel were great IMO.
impressive in ring debut by wrath
As always, so excited for the quality each and every week. Thank you my man
Damn, just thinking about it, I really wish you did a Davey Boy Smith chin lock counter from the start! Would be hilarious to see how many chin locks he's at now!
He achieved Chinese phone book amounts of CHINS.....
When I seen Rob Van Dam, I was a lifelong fan from that moment
Another Thursday complete. Glad I can watch before I go to work. Happy holidays everyone
You just said "triple h is gonna have a hard time beating the big Johnson tonight" bwaahaahaa
The whole big Johnson segment was brilliant 🤘
Reliving The War is so great that I'm actually rewatching the other episodes I love what the Monday Night Wars brought us the fans so many epic matches and earth shattering promos I'm on the episode where a certain someone is about to declare WAR...take care and can't wait for more Reliving The War 👍🏾🤘🏾✊🏾🔥🎉🎊🎄
I've been a wrestling fan since i was 6 years old and watching the invaders rivalry with the moondogs changed my live. I've been hooked on Professional wrestling. And watching these videos bring me back to that time. And i thank you for that. Please keep up the good work. Thanks
Happy Christmas, Puddin'!! Love you!! 💜
Love the big Johnson work. A+ man+
Thank you for these videos.
You can have a rest this weekend, as you deserve it.
I won't mind the WCW PPV being delayed.
Merry Christmas Wrestling Bios.
It's crazy. I never knew RVD appeared this early in the WWE.
This was during the WWE/ECW Partnership in 97....ECW helped out WWE in early 97 and it was also to promote ECW's First PPV Barely Legal
@@timbartschwolfman ah ok, thats interesting. I started watching WWE in late 98, early 99. Didn't know about their temporary partnership.
@@resilientintrovert2093
ECW appeared at In Your House Mind Games in 96....also Jerry Lawler invaded ECW Arena in 97 to attack Tommy Dreamer...this set up Tommy Dreamer vs Jerry Lawler at ECW Hardcore Heaven 97 which Dreamer won
@@timbartschwolfman that's cool af. Never knew WWE & ECW had history with each other besides the 2001 invasion angle lol.
@@timbartschwolfman Yeah, I was just thinking "So has Lawler appeared in ECW yet?", but that wouldn't still be for another month with Wrestlepalooza in June, when Lawler lead an attack on Tommy Dreamer after he finally beat Raven. On that note, we're not too far out from Raven's WCW debut in late June!
Best early pressie yet.. loved the Johnson bit.. Great stuff
Just want to say thanks for the new video. I’m currently in the hospital awaiting to have a procedure on my lung, and it’s nice to have some new content to watch to keep me occupied while I’m in here through Christmas. Thanks and take care!
Thanks for everything this year man. I’ve enjoyed everything so far, brought back a lot of childhood memories
97 was such a great year!
Reliving the War is the ultimate Christmas present. Thank you so much man, and Merry Christmas.
Thanks for your hard work WB. I look forward to this show every week.
7:34 Scott Putski actually a descent wrestler and a pretty nice guy. I had the chance to meet him and his father at an indy show in Texas when he was coming up. Under-rated misused talent by both WWF and WCW imo.
I think Vince lost confidence in him when he got injured in that PPV match, and he didn't "gut it out".
Such great uses of Ahmeds "Johnson" my guy you are a legend among all Johnsons Big and Small...
Ooh we are coming up to the “undertakers secret” part (not spoiling it) but that is going to be one to watch
We gotta wait for the reveal in October 1997
Thanks for everything you do here Wrestling Bios. I look forward to this every Thursday.
Wrestling Bios you're a bloody LEGEND mate I was in stitches when you mentioned my Jiggly Frankfurter 😂😂👍 Hope you have a great Christmas bud 🎅🍻
Who would've thought that Ric Flair would be the last one still alive, on that team?
What a great man Steven Regal is
I bop SO HARD to your opening music. The bells were a nice touch!
The WCW high flyers from the 90s are underrated.
Merry Christmas 🎁🎄! Love this series thank you for reliving our childhood memories with this series!
Hell yeah man! It's been a pleasure to hang with u and watch this awesome show! So thank you for all this awesome content! Your the best man!
Can't believe it's already been another year, it feels like last Christmas wasn't even that long ago.
Glad to hear Wrestling Bios is finally in the new place, 2022 should hopefully be pretty awesome. Happy Holidays Everyone
😄👍
Thank you Wrestling Bios for all the awesome content you have put out, and a very Merry Christmas to you as well!
Awesome! Thanks so Much!! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays 🤘🖤❄️🌲☃️
This is without a doubt the absolute best series of wrestling videos I've ever seen, short of the original broadcast of course. Well done sir, keep up the great work. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Yes. The beginning of the Kane story line!!! Man please, when the war is over, please PLEASE keep re-capping the Attitude era on its own, I don't want to pay for WWE TV to re watch the best era. I look forward to your Weekley videos
Merry Christmas Wrestling Bios
You are the man WrestlingBios bro!
Man I can't thank you enough for making these, seeing Alex Wright dancing around and on earlier episodes hearing the midi theme music from WCW vs nWo World Tour fukin awesome. Bringing back so many memories from my early teenage years.
The quality on these is unreal. Great work.
Merry Christmas and happy new year everyone. Looking forward to another 52 weeks of absolute awesomeness. Thanks for the entertaining videos.
Christmas bells with the intro you have out done yourself my friend... Thank you another great video. Merry Christmas Bios and Merry Christmas to the millions......and millions of the Bionites across the globe
Nice Christmas stuff. You always go above and beyond. Props
The banana hammock bounce is hilarious
My goodness was Rob Van Dam ever amazing back in those days!! FANTASTIC!

So much more could have been done with the 4horsemen versus nwo
happy holidays wrestling bios much love and heres to an even more successful 2022 for you 🙏
Merry Christmas to wrestling bio's, we appreciate the videos every week brother!!
Really enjoyed this. I remember watching this raw as a kid so great nostalgia
You know what they say, nostalgia is just not what it used to be.
A reliving the war episode - Best Christmas present ever!
Hell yeah, best part of Thursdays
Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 Wrestling Bio and I always enjoy your Videos of wrestling ❤️❤️💪🏾💪🏾💯💯
The best christmas gift of all! Reliving The War!
Thank you! These kick ass.
I've always HATED Savage in the nwo. If there was anybody who never needed to have joined, it was Savage.
Kinda agree except how else would we have seen heel Liz?? She was great as a heel.
Yeah and Bret Hart
@@derekazyan9942 Bret said in his book that after Montreal that he lost all passion for the business (I'm paraphrasing, of course) and that in WCW he couldn't care less. I wish he had NEVER turned heel and joined Hogan because it was weak and it made absolutely no sense whatsoever, even for someone who didn't care anymore. I mean, there's not caring, and then there's just doing something that makes less than -100% sense.
@@sharmellkeane3924 I always hated Liz. They should've brought back Sherri and recreated the Kingdom of the Madness in WCW
It‘s good, that the whole series is back.
Merry xmass bios u are awesome thanks for posting these memories bring back the inner teen lol
these reviews are amazing... amazing work bios and happy holidays
Can't wait to watch some Alex Wright dancing and only 2:05 in and I'm ALREADY IN HEAVEN!!!! HAHAHAHAHAH YES!!!!!!!
Thank you for all the "Johnson's"!!.. ex: the big Johnson won't go down, He's having a hard time beating the big Johnson, The big Johnson goes stiff and won't stay down and so on!! Really made me and my fiance's night! Watching your videos is always a highlight of our day once a new one is posted but that made it so much better!
Just commenting that this is another great episode in the best UA-cam series there is. I can’t wait to see the Bios commentary on a lot of great stuff coming up on raw in the next couple of months.
Merry Christmas! Great job as usual
A question as we move forward: in covering the *entire* Monday Night War, it may be necessary for Thunder and SmackDown to get covered in the future. How do you plan on handling that?
I was wondering this as well.
No Shotgun Saturday Night etc, so maybe not?
Thunder is definitely necessary because of the whole David Arquette thing. I'd argue even Sunday Night Heat would be necessary in 1998/99, at least the PPV pre-shows.
Thanks for the episode, merry Christmas, kick or be kickin
Raw was definitely was picking up steam and from all that has been happening, '97 has been a intense but amazing year. Nitro, on the hand, was somewhat losing a bit of momentum but still competition was awesome
Agreed. Most people like at mid/ late 98 as to when the tide started to turn, but I always thought from a creative stand point the WWF was leaps and bounds ahead of WCW by the summer of 97. The talent just wasnt spread out yet, and when Bret signed with WCW, mixed with their weekly live Nitros it looked like WCW would just squeeze WWF out with talent
Merry Christmas wrestling bios and thanks for a great year of videos
