Your playing and feel here is absolutely stellar! Voodoo Child (No Slight Return) Vibes! So cool 😎 Will gives me hours of practice getting it to flow freely I think. Thanks Tom!
I think Muddy Water's version was called Rolling Stone, which is where the Rolling Stones got their name. This riff has been adapted and used in many songs including Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Chile
Excellent video. Anyone can play notes but doing it with the right feel and phrasing is another story. You have a real feel for the blues and are a talented guitarist.
Here's one version of the lyrics ... RIP, Muddy! "Well, I wish I was a catfish Swimmin' in the deep blue sea I'd have all you women Fishin' after me Fishin' after me Fishin' after me Well, I'm broke and I'm hungry Ragged and I'm dirty too Well, if I clean up, baby, can I Stay home with you Stay home with you Stay home with you If I can't, can't come in Let me sit down front of your door I'll leave so early, your Mom won't know Won't never know Won't never know Oh, I know, know my baby Well, she's going to jump and shout When my train pulls in and I I come walkin' out Come walkin' out Come walkin' out Yes, I'm goin', babe I'm goin' And your crying won't make me stay Oh, the more you cry, baby More I'll go away More I'll go away More I'll go away Well now I know, I know you don't want me Why in the world won't you tell me so? Then I won't be caught, baby, 'round Your house no more Your house no more Your house no more"
Fantastic Blues lesson Thom! Gotta love the Mud Cat & that picture of him with the cigarette hanging out of his mouth is priceless! Happy Holidays to you & your family!
Hi Tom! an other Tom (Tomas) here, at 11:03 no need for 2 finger to do bend if you use 0.8 or even 0.7 strings (like Billy F Gibbons). The bend is easy with Gibson length scale (24.75″) or more easy with PRS (Santana signature 24,5'') and so on ... (Fender Jaguar and Mustang 24''). But if you stick with strato ok, put some light string an make your live easyest.
I want to thank you for your lesson on the Shadows Apache... helped me in a few spots I was having trouble with. I first heard it on the album Wheels by the Phantoms. 👍🎸🎸
Hear My Train a Comin from Live at Berkeley, is the other Jimi Catfish/Hoochie Coochie hybrid, that is more intricate and has a very different change, than most blues.
i turn 53 in april. kickflip on a skateboard is nothing special, but still makes me happy every time. can do just this trick all day long. ; ) thx for this nice guitar lesson, mate.
At the end of Gregg Allman's official video of Muddy Water's song "Love The Life I Live", he tells the band that their licks was just bonafide nasty! Catfish is one of those licks - just nasty!!! I miss Gregg - the greatest blues singer of our time.....in my very humble opinion of course
Nicely played! From one guitar teacher to another, I appreciate your enthusiasm too. In a world of seemingly never-ending shredding, people are missing out on simple, heartfelt expression through simpler playing. 🙂
I've been watching the very well-made videos for a long time and they teach me something every time. Not only is the acting great, but there's always the right soundtrack. Where does it come from?
Do you know what? This sounds very reminiscent of Eric Clapton's take on "Ramblin' on My Mind". These riffs are transportable over songs and genres. Good work mate! Really enjoy your content. Keep going!
The song is called Catfish Blues! TABS: bit.ly/478vVUl
Your playing and feel here is absolutely stellar! Voodoo Child (No Slight Return) Vibes! So cool 😎 Will gives me hours of practice getting it to flow freely I think. Thanks Tom!
You caught me... and reeled me in - with this "Catfish Blues".
Bravo! Great lesson and performance.

I am 80 and still playin it ;O) Thank you for posting.
You're right, Pilgrim. I'm eighty years old, and I'm playing that riff like I'm Muddy Waters in a bad mood, and I'm so happy.
So great to hear someone honor our great artists. Thanks for highlighting Muddy in a brilliant way.
damnit I had to figure this shit out for myself 30 years ago and now you're just giving it away >:( Muddy Waters taught me so much.
Excellent video. Anyone can play notes but doing it with the right feel and phrasing is another story. You have a real feel for the blues and are a talented guitarist.
Keep doing what you’re doing, you have a real gift for teaching! Thank you for posting this!
This is great! So basic but so many ways to throw in a bluesy melody and improvise. You really have “the touch” …. Love your videos!
Here's one version of the lyrics ... RIP, Muddy!
"Well, I wish I was a catfish
Swimmin' in the deep blue sea
I'd have all you women
Fishin' after me
Fishin' after me
Fishin' after me
Well, I'm broke and I'm hungry
Ragged and I'm dirty too
Well, if I clean up, baby, can I
Stay home with you
Stay home with you
Stay home with you
If I can't, can't come in
Let me sit down front of your door
I'll leave so early, your
Mom won't know
Won't never know
Won't never know
Oh, I know, know my baby
Well, she's going to jump and shout
When my train pulls in and I
I come walkin' out
Come walkin' out
Come walkin' out
Yes, I'm goin', babe I'm goin'
And your crying won't make me stay
Oh, the more you cry, baby
More I'll go away
More I'll go away
More I'll go away
Well now I know, I know you don't want me
Why in the world won't you tell me so?
Then I won't be caught, baby, 'round
Your house no more
Your house no more
Your house no more"
That's a nice way of looking at it. Soulful playing, Mr.
Gary Moore did a song called Ball and Chain seems to be based on this. Killer riff.
Love this, thank you
This is one of my favourite lessons from you

One of the most famous riffs in the world. ❤❤❤
Jimi Hendrix “Voodoo Chile” on the Electric Ladyland album is 15 minutes of pure heaven based on this riff.
Hear My Train a Comin from Live at Berkeley, is the other Jimi Catfish/Hoochie Coochie hybrid, that is more intricate and has a very different change, than most blues.
@@CorbCorbin ah yes good call. I love that whole Berkeley show!

Great❤ playing too hard is one of my every day struggle. But i dont give up✌️
At the end of Gregg Allman's official video of Muddy Water's song "Love The Life I Live", he tells the band that their licks was just bonafide nasty! Catfish is one of those licks - just nasty!!!

The perfect tone - in addition to the great playing! Would you consider sharing your thoughts on gear and tone? Would make for another nice video.
GENIO TOTAL AMIGO UN SALUDO DE CHACO ARGENTINA ESTARE PRACTICANDO ESTO GRACIAS HERMANO
Nicely played! From one guitar teacher to another, I appreciate your enthusiasm too. In a world of seemingly never-ending shredding, people are missing out on simple, heartfelt expression through simpler playing. 🙂
Complimenti......🙂
you can make a living with that. Lots of guys have.
Great.
Hi Tom!
Lot of skill in there ! 🙂 That's blues!
Nice! 🤙🤙
I've been watching the very well-made videos for a long time and they teach me something every time. Not only is the acting great, but there's always the right soundtrack. Where does it come from?
Yep that Muddy Waters Catfish Blues riff is the greatest as it is used in so many songs.
Loving this! What effects are you using on the guitar? Delay or reverb?
Your tone is amazing, very hard to mimic
Do you know what? This sounds very reminiscent of Eric Clapton's take on "Ramblin' on My Mind". These riffs are transportable over songs and genres. Good work mate! Really enjoy your content. Keep going!
You have more talent than Holland has people! Love your playing amigo
I really like Gary Clark Jr's version of Catfish Blues from the Live 2014! Slightly spicier than the original
Brilliant, that's why I want to play with you.
Amazing lesson! "You Gotta Move" By Stones is also based on this.
"Well I wish I was a catfish. swimming in the deep blue sea - I'd have all you pretty women fishing after me"
Tu es un super gars ! Un super pédagogue, et un putain de bon Guitariste😉
Nice, thank you! Those riffs transposed into the appropriate key would work well with Muddy's Hoochie Coochie Man.
The first teacher to stress the importance of playing soft. I feel like I’m playing better already. 👍
❤
Nice one! Thanks. Will be boring everyone with this over Christmas....
🤘😎
Tasty 😎🤠🎸
Isn't there at A7 in there somewhere? Good Lord this is fun to play...
My 19th favourite.
I don’t know if it’s your pickups or amp, but your tone is always great.
