This talk was very timely, since I am reading "The Covenant of Water" right now. Great to get insights into the writer's mind, and his thinking process when you are reading their book. Dr. Verghese is articulate and has a gift for writing. The contrast is very obvious if you read his writing immediately after some other well known writers who write for the mass audience and who will not be named.
A mediocre book on Kerala. But as a US settled doctor who received training to write for North American audience, he is welcomed in elite gatherings in Indian cities. Another writers in the league are Shashi Tharoor and his protege Manu Pillai.
