Even with Gods and Dark Magician on his side, he couldn't do anything against him. Student became stronger, got his own cards, learned new combos. And Atem... has to go. It may be hard for both of them, but this is what should happen eventually. By negating Monster Reborn, Yugi showed that he is ready to become the King of Games and cut all ties with Atem
